When my students ask why I have a backpack... I just say, “Because they hold everything!!” I’m pretty sure they think I’m uncool, but that’s okay! 🤷🏻♀️ Anyone else backpacking it?? 🎒 #fifthgradeteacher

John Green @johngreenwritesbooks said you can tell the quality of a historian by the number of his or her globes. I need more!
The big one was given to me by my dad and is from 1980– it’s the only globe I’ve owned with the USSR on it!
Side note: Globes are expensive. I’m not much of a thrifter, but in order to up my globe game I may need to become one.
I told my student to draw a solution for the problem I had just described to her (flat tire, need to go to work, what’s a possible solution?). I also specifically reminded her not to draw a unicorn, as is her pattern. So what did she draw me? A NYC bus...with a unicorn horn. 🤦🏻♀️ #SoClose#CantTellHerShesWrong
Hey GUESS WHAT, life doesn’t level down for your “low kids.” You are doing your students a disservice when you lower your expectations because of their circumstances, their home life, or their PAPERWORK. Expect the HIGHEST level of thinking for all students and scaffold from there. Would you want to work for a principal who thinks you’re a “low” teacher? No, probably not. What if she called you a roaring lion to make you feel better and grouped you with other struggling teachers to form a “tribe.” No, probably still won’t wanna work for them. Kids don’t come to school thinking, “I can’t wait to fail today!” They WANT to meet our expectations, so why not set them high? PLEASE. STOP. CALLING. KIDS. LOW.
How do you use computers in your classroom? I’ve found the most effective way is to find B A L E N C E. In my class we use it at a resource. A way to publish our writing and most importantly a place to collaborate with fellow classmates. I teach them how to use google slides, how to create resources to study and overall how to tell if a website is a reliable source. Make sure you guys are checking in every Tuesday on my stories to get a teacher tech tip each week ✨
“Mom, you’d buy tacos and a lot of stuff at Target.” 🤣 My son knows me well! Do you have your tickets for the Mega Millions drawing tonight? I’m curious what you would buy if you won. The first thing I would do is pay off all the debt for my family. Once that was done, I would establish college funds for my kids and all my nieces and nephews. I have always dreamed of spending summers in Spanish-speaking countries so my kids could soak up the language and culture, and gain some perspective. If money were no object, I would pick a different country each summer. How fun would that be?! What would you do? 🤔
I’m not afraid to admit it, I don’t enjoy cooking. The prep, the actual cooking while two little humans are trying to get my attention, the clean up...oh and let’s not forget the begging I have to do to get my son to actually eat 😩 Can’t we all just be okay with 🍕 every night? Are you a fan of the kitchen or are you like me?
My HEART!!!! 💛💛 This is hands down the sweetest note I’ve received from a student thus far in my teaching career. “You are the best teacher ever. You make the world a better place. Thanks for all the things you do. I am so lucky to have you in my life. It is because of you that I want to be a teacher when I grow up.” 😭😭😭
#tbt to last year’s Red Ribbon Week door decorations 🌮 Bitmojis and tacos, is there anything better? We also incorporated my favorite book, Dragons Love Tacos, and practiced descriptive word choice. •
What are y’all doing for #redribbonweek ?
As a teacher, some days this is a mantra you just have to keep repeating.
Today was one of those days. I got a new student, which is fine, but does change things up a bit. With figuring out group placement, behavior, parents, etc.
On top of that, my kids were a little off today and we found ourselves going back and repeating routines that have been in place since August 🙄( could be the excitement of having someone new in class)
AND today was data/RTI meetings which make me sweat. We have SO MUCH extra paperwork this year.
But guess what? I survived and so can you! Whatever life throws at us, WE’VE GOT THIS. 💁🏼♀️ Tell me, did you have one of those days recently?
🚨New Feature Alert: Real-Time Reporting🚨 Teach your class and keep track of student answers - all from the same spot and at the same time! It’s true– our brand new class mode gives your super powers! 🚀
These editable slides from @teachingwithacaffeinequeen are a lifesaver! I just put what I want to students to complete each morning when they come in. It saves me time repeating directions and allows students to quickly glance back at the screen if they forget what to do next. Plus they are super cute and match the theme of my classroom! Check out her TPT store for more slides!
My kids are loving so much this Math center from @bilingualteacherworld 👻 Besides counting and matching the number, I have them add mini erasers to the 10 chart to double check their answer!🎃Halloween Centers are my favorite!👻
Do you teach research? Many times students struggle with a research project because they have picked a topic that is too difficult. Stop by my blog for tips on helping students select a “just right” research topic. #researchpaper#writingteacher#historyteacherproblems
