This is #TamanNegara , an ancient rainforest estimated to be 130 million years old. Home to Tigers, elephants, snakes, scorpions, all kinds of wildlife and even the Batek people. This place is full of mysterious stories and beautiful sights. This part of my trip back in 2017 was one of the scariest for me by far. I'm terrified of spiders for a start and from the second I arrived here I noticed a very eerie sense about the place. It took about 2 hours to arrive by boat from further down the river where we had taken a bus to. On the way we saw monkeys running along the sandy river banks and local people. We stayed in a village for a few days and I travelled to the other side of the river to explore only once. We couldn't afford a guide but decided to go trekking through this scary looking place anyway. It was a great experience full of both amazing and scary parts of the journey. It wasn't till after I was told the stories of the missing people and strange happening of this place.. I guess that was probably for the best since as I'm glad I went a did it. Dispite the reluctance to go back here for the fear, I am so enchanted by the beauty and mystery of this place, I would love to go back. |
Lizard beetle (pretty sure it is in the Languria genus). Malaysia. About all I can find on these guys is that they are herbivores. But they are extremely pretty and easy to photograph since they sit still. At least, this one did and I love his metallic sheen. #im_redandgreen .⠀
Slide to see some other cool beetles from Malaysia that I've not yet identified.⠀
Shot in the field using Olympus OM-D E-M1ii. Lens: Zuiko 60mm. Godox TT350 flash with DIY diffuser.
Took a longboat to explore Taman Negara - remote af. Having arrived at the place to sleep at nightfall, we realised, that windows, mattresses and a proper door are the things we will miss tonight.
