E hoje fiz as pazes com a piscina !
An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman… swim to France!! Nick Berry, Shane McCauley & @euan.lees - I am in complete awe of these three guys, who will swim a distance of, at least, 21 miles/33 kilometres, for a wonderful children’s charity. Only .0000001% of us have ever attempted something this difficult. I’m always deeply moved whenever someone goes to an extraordinary place, and attempts something so daunting, not least, when it is considered, by many, to be the ultimate long-distance challenge.
The car is packed, and the children are briefed - to be on their best behaviour for our wonderful neighbours and friends, @liamwcox & @jennifergcox; we are forever indebted! Since Sunday evening, we have been playing an anxious waiting game. Swimming the English Channel is, very much, a gamble, not least, in terms of trying to time the tides and weather exactly right, and we only have a small window of opportunity for our booking.
Our pilot is Reg Brickell. The guys will be swimming alongside Reg’s boat - Viking Princess. Reg has a vast knowledge of the English Channel, which is invaluable, when escorting swimmers. The boat has all the latest high-tech navigation equipment, and Reg, together with his brother, Ray, have escorted swimmers across the English Channel for more than 40 years, including many Channel Swimming Association record-breakers. They are the most successful team to ‘Lead the Way’, in helping Channel-crossers succeed, and they are, usually, ‘right-on’ for picking the day, and time, to start a swim.
Reg is keeping a close eye on the latest Channel stats - wind direction/force/speed / wave height/period, etc. We rang Reg at 7pm on Sunday evening; Monday didn’t look good. We rang Reg at 7pm last night; today didn’t look good, either. We will ring Reg at 7pm this evening.
When we get the go-ahead, we will leave London at, approximately, 11pm, drive to Dover, be on the boat for 2:30am, and one of the guys will be in the water at 3:30am, in the pitch-black of night.
Please, give whatever you can, via the fundraising page - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fot-englishchannelrelay - it will be most appreciated. 🏊🏼♂️🏴🇫🇷☘️
