#aww I worked all day on the panel for Grad school entrance interviews it has been #exhausting (to say the least) plus teaching 5 courses this summer 😳 no lie it has been tough ..... always nice to come home to #sweetgestures !!! @luckycharles8 25 presentations 7-3 ugh
A huge thank you to the staff at @kennyandzukes for giving Buggle the present of a pound of pickle spears to kick off her birthday week. We ordered them at the end of our meal, mentioned how she *loved* pickles and that it was her birthday week (13th no less!) and our server Matthew said they were on the house. She (and we) appreciated the gesture. We really like this restaurant because the food is amazing (if you are a New York or East Coast transplant this is as close to your home diner as you’ll get anywhere) and the staff is lovely to boot. #randomactsofkindness#portlandrestaurants#kennyandzukes#pickles#sweetgestures#thankyou
This is Ghavne. But a special one!
It is perhaps from a roadside ‘tiffin wala’ or ‘Upma-Sheera wala’ or any other name you might want to give to those men/women who sell breakfast items on the foot path.
What makes it special though is the fact that it was bought by my driver uncle with full of thoughtfulness and affection!
Couple of days back when Mandar uncle was driving me back home, we spontaneously began discussing about food, more precisely the preparatory processes that are closely associated with the local culture. He being a native of Konkan region of Maharashtra went on to passionately explain a few dishes like Amboli, Ghavne, bitter gourd bhaji etc. and I in exchange was explaining to him the soothing comfort of having rasam on a Sunday and sleeping until infinity!
When he explained what Ghavne was, I was so tempted that I told him I wanted to have it. He thus ‘spoke to’ the man who makes and sells it and got it today morning! FYI - ‘spoke to’ according to him is his convincing skill/ negotiation skills. 🤣
Many times you sit there expecting your kith and kin to love you like you do them but you end up getting that from small acts of people from whom there is no expectation.
And, you must enjoy it while you can!
