Junk mail is the worst and with over 60% going to the landfill, I think a lot of people feel the same way. Luckily reducing your junk mail is one of the easiest things you can do for the environment.
There are many reasons to stop junk mail:
1. Save the trees: it kills 100 million trees a year.
2. Save water: it requires 20 billion gallons of water to produce.
3. Reduce global warming: the energy required to produce that much paper could power 9 million cars.
4. Save time: people waste about 70 hours a year sorting junkmail.
The absolute easiest solution is to put a ‘no junkmail’ sign on your mailbox and Canada Post won’t deliver any unaddressed catalogues, coupons, ads etc.
If you want to go a step further you can take yourself off the marketing distribution lists which means no more targeted junkmail that is addressed to you eg credit card offers, catalogues etc. To do this you just fill out an online form for Canada Post and the Canadian Marketing agency (link in bio). You can also just google “Canada post” and “junkmail” to find the webpage. It took me literally 2 mins to do both, such an easy solve😀
Our secret to getting better at cooking? Embracing patience and self-love. It takes a long time to become a great chef, but cooking is something that you can get better at every time you do it. If you mess up, eat your mistake (or compost it) and then move on to the next delicious lesson. Remember the lesson from Ratatouille? "Anyone can cook... but only the fearless can be great." What are you going to cook this weekend?
Just over a week in our new apartment and I couldn’t be more in love! It’s white & bright and my favorite place I’ve ever lived in☺️ And of course looks great filled with plants so... yeah, gonna be buying a lot of plants😜 Is anyone else out there a plant person? Which is your favorite?? 🌿
What do you have in mind for this weekend? Channel all the Stevie Nicks you want, baby! Black and moons forever 🖤🌙 Here the beauty @kelsey_brooke3 is wearing the spiritual circle necklace and the crescent moon and amethyst ring, did you check out our jewelry shop yet? There’s a brand new capsule collection up there 🖤🌙 The dress she’s wearing is made with Tencel fabric, all jewelry is made with recycled metals -although most fine jewelry is- and conflict free gemstones 📸 by @noizephyzix
One of the first swaps I made to reduce my plastic waste was switching out body/face wash bottles for bar soap! Just compare the amount of plastic from the first to second picture. I also love that they’re accessible to anyone; you can find them anywhere from Walmart to WholeFoods to TJ Maxx. I even find that they are consistently cheaper and last longer than traditional bottles. Right now my favorite soaps are ones with coconut oil and lavender to combat the dryness that is sometimes associated with soap bars.
I don’t know about you, but I’d like to help keep that plastic out of our landfills and oceans by making this simple swap!
Walking into the new year with less waste 😎
We had the biggest potluck I've ever seen at school today. It was epic! I decided to take these items with me so that I wouldn't have to use any disposables. I got a lot of teasing, questions, and just utter confusion. I calmly argued with more than one person about how this wasn't pointless. I was told that I was "really intense." But in the end, I didn't produce any trash at lunch, was able to partake in everything, and whether it stuck or not, hopefully planted some seeds for a few people (especially once they started running out of paper plates!). AND I'm sure I avoided plenty of toxins by not exposing my food to plastic. I'll be posting about the delicious vegan dish I took later.
Do you ever get frustrated by people who just don't "get it"?
9. Airbnb gift card. Perfect for any traveler - local or global. This is one of the best gifts I’ve received (thanks mom) because it allowed me to have an authentic experience in a city I wouldn’t have been able to visit otherwise!

Winter can be a downtime on the homestead. Depending on where you're at, weather may prevent you from doing a lot of outside projects. .
Luckily, there's lots of things you can do to prepare for Spring or get you through these winter months. Here are a few: **Plan chores or projects for the coming year....Now is a great time to reflect on previous seasons and begin planning out the next year. Planning will help you be more efficient with your time. Plan your garden, what animals you want to raise, how you can be more efficient with your time, what projects you would like to complete, etc... .
**Research new ideas:
Winter is a great time to read and research new ways of doing things or even to learn a new skill. Google and YouTube provide so many options on several subjects. Whether it be about gardening, woodworking, raising livestock, making your own soaps, sewing, or whatever else you're interested in, take some time this winter season to read up and learn something new. Personal growth is always a great idea. .
**Browse through seed catalogs
Winter is great for browsing through seed catalogs (either online or offline) and selecting seeds you want to sow in the spring. .
** Plan your garden
This is something I want to try this year. Mapping out your garden is a great way to maximize your time and money. By knowing exactly where you're going to plant something and how much of it you'll need ahead of time, it'll definitely make creating your garden easier. * Sew, crochet, or knit:
I love to crochet. I remember crocheting with my grandma when I was little. A couple of years ago I made my husband a giant blanket. It measures approximately 6' x 9' Lately I've resorted to YouTube to learn new patterns. I plan on taking up sewing here soon. * Declutter and/or Deep Clean
I know, I know cleaning may not be the most fun, but think about how great it'll feel when you finally have that junk drawer cleaned out! This is a great time to reorganize and clean out any unwanted, spoiled, broken, or not needed items. Heck, you can even make some extra money by putting unwanted items up for sale.
