Researchers have long-known that visceral fat; the kind that wraps around the internal organs, is more dangerous than subcutaneous fat that lies just under the skin around the belly, thighs and rear. But how visceral fat contributes to insulin resistance and inflammation has remained unknown.
All body fat is not created equal in terms of associated health risks. Visceral fat is strongly linked to metabolic disease and insulin resistance, and an increased risk of death, even for people who have a normal body mass index. Subcutaneous fat doesn't carry the same risks, some subcutaneous fat may even be protective.

The human body wants blood glucose (blood sugar) maintained in a very narrow range. Insulin and glucagon are the hormones which make this happen. Both insulin and glucagon are secreted from the pancreas, and thus are referred to as pancreatic endocrine hormones!
Insulin is normally secreted by the beta cells (a type of islet cell) of the pancreas. The stimulus for insulin secretion is a HIGH blood glucose...it's as simple as that! Although there is always a low level of insulin secreted by the pancreas, the amount secreted into the blood increases as the blood glucose rises. Similarly, as blood glucose falls, the amount of insulin secreted by the pancreatic islets goes down. In response to insulin, cells absorb glucose out of the blood, having the net effect of lowering the high blood glucose levels into the normal range.
Glucagon is secreted by the alpha cells of the pancreatic islets in much the same manner as insulin...except in the opposite direction. If blood glucose is high, then no glucagon is secreted. The effect of glucagon is to make the liver release the glucose it has stored in its cells into the bloodstream, with the net effect of increasing blood glucose. .
Glucagon also induces the liver (and some other cells such as muscle) to make glucose out of building blocks obtained from other nutrients found in the body aka proteins via amino acids! .

Just a matter of days ago the NHS celebrated its 70th birthday.
Blinded to reality, we tend to see only what we want to including an unfair system that forces people to wait far too long for the tests or treatment that they need.
This service is vital to many people and I can now express first hand the extradorinary work of nurses, doctors, consultants, medical and surgical teams across the NHS. The amount of patience these people have in a heavily pressured environment is beyond commendable.
Thankful for the opportunity to avail of a healthcare service that still provides when its not in the best of ways itself, and for the girl I met on my second night who gave me so much inspiration to be thankful for everything we are blessed with regardless of our situation. Sometimes it just takes that bit longer to see the light.

This is the portion of the stomach that was removed during a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, a type of bariatric (surgical weight loss) procedure.
Sleeve gastrectomy entails resecting the greater curvature and fundus of the stomach. The partial gastrectomy is oriented vertically, parallel to the lesser curvature of the stomach, which results in a gastric volume reduction of 70 to 80%, leaving a narrow gastric tube or sleeve.
No intestines are removed or bypassed during the sleeve gastrectomy.
The main mechanism of action is that it promotes weight loss through two principal mechanisms of action, mechanical (creation of restriction) and endocrine (creation of anorexia).
The newly created stomach is considerably smaller and facilitates significantly smaller meals, which translates into less calories consumed.
Sleeve gastrectomy removes the gastric fundus and, therefore, significantly decreases the postprandial levels of ghrelin, a hormone referred to as the “hunger hormone” which promotes satiety and suppress hunger.
Decreasing the levels of ghrelin promotes weight loss by inducing satiety.
Like any surgical operation, sleeve gastrectomy has possible complications, such as leakage, dilation or stricture of the sleeve , gastric dilatation, and gastroesophageal reflux.

تخلیه ی چشم در یک بیمار مبتلا به تومور شبکیه!!! تخلیه عبارتست از خارج کردن چشم بطور کامل توام با قسمتی از عصب بینایی. تخلیه کره چشم ممکنست برای موارد زیر انجام شود:صدمه شدید منجر به پرولاپس بافت یووا یا کاهش حس نور. تحریک، نابینایی، درد،دفورمیتی و بدشکلی چشم که معمولا ثانویه به گلوکوم کنده شدن شبکیه یا التهاب مزمن می باشد. چشم فاقد بینایی مفید که موجب بروز افتادگی سمپاتیکی در چشم دیگر می شود. تومورهای داخل چشم که با استفاده از روشهای دیگر قابل درمان نیستند
دلیل انجام عمل تخلیه ی چشم در این بیمار وجود یک تومور شبکیه ی درحال رشد بود که یک مورد نادر از یک تومور بدخیم در چشم بود که معمولا کودکان زیر 5 سال را تحت تاثیر قرار میدهد.
پروسجر تخلیه شامل مراحل زیر است:
جدا کردن و بریدن یکایک عضلات چشم، دیسکسیون کپسول تنون (غشاء فیبروزی پوشاننده صلبیه) و بریدن و جدا کردن عصب بینایی از کره چشم. معمولا بدنبال تخلیه چشم یک پروتز کاشتنی در اوربیت قرار داده می شود و ملتحمه بسته می شود. در محل عمل یک پانسمان فشاری بزرگ قرار داده می شود.
