Why is it that every time I sit down to draw ...either from my iPad or my sketchbook... I immediately go to flowers!?!
I snapped a lifetimes worth of floral photos from City Park in New Orleans a couple of weeks ago: Exhibit A (scroll to see the photo I doodled from).
Now what’s something I can draw that’s not flowers?
I’m excited to share I’ll be doing a little pop up next Monday 10/22 from 5:30-7pm at the belle isle boat house for the shady ladies literary society! I’m also resuming studio visits & appointment shopping at my new space in Southwest Detroit. Locals - come say hi 🤓
Had some painting thoughts going on today but only had a bit of time to carve out. Sometimes I feel like I’m all over the place with my work, and I know it’s important to have a “clear voice”. But I think I’m accepting that it’s OK to explore, and have things maybe feel a bit different at times. Right? Love how “smushy” this feels. #floralpattern#floral
A closer look at that dandelion print. This was drawn directly in illustrator and was the beginning of me drawing more and more digitally so you may see a shift here. I’ve become more comfortable with that and the changes it may make in my work. When you’ve been at something for almost 10 years shifts and trying new things can be a good thing. 🌼
This “Marble Sketch” print is channeling all my Fall feels today. I want to make everything I create the colors of ginger and ochre. I also want to do nothing but watch scary movies. Bonus when I get to do both at the same time. That’s talent. #patternstate#surfacedesign#fabricdesign#spoonflower
If I have any kind of style, with the exception of my custom animal portraits, it would have to be characterized as experimental. I sat down yesterday and decided to get out of my comfort zone and see if I could create a much more modern, pop-art style. My oldest daughter came by and I asked "What do you think?" She said: "Cute". That was good enough for me. It was just so much fun to create - I am going to have to do more of this style.
