Hospital Fest 2018 (Part III)- Knockdown Center - Queens, NY - 12/8-9/2018
In order of appearance:
Jesu (w/Kelly Moran & Alberich)
I call this part of the fest the “Justin Broadrick half-time show” on account it was pretty much his stage for the next 2-3 hours w/a dose of Kelly Moran in the middle. Also, this part of the fest was like calm before the storm before the final high octane adrenaline rush. Mellow and introspective, and beautiful in a somewhat dark way. 🖤
I kinda wished Jesu’s set went on a bit longer but it was incredible regardless cause hey it’s Christmas (a newer rendition of it) and it’s that time of year so it hits deeper. Loved the “snowfall” midway through. Definitely got the crowd in the holiday spirit. 🎄
Kelly played a wonderful set but I tried something different and watched the set from a far halfway through and ended up liking my vantage point better seeing the visuals rather than just fixating on her and her keyboards.
Final was really awesome to see live. I mean I don’t think Justin Broadrick can do anything wrong IMO. Again, it’s one of those things that I never thought would happen since he never brought it to the states until now. Should listen to more of the project actually cause I’ve only heard a few of the Final stuff.🔥 #hospitalfest2018#hospitalfestnyc#hospitalfest#hospitaproductions#supporttheunderground#jesu#kellymoran#final#justinbroadrick#shoegaze#doomgaze#electronic#ambient#drone#noise#concertlife
Hospital Fest 2018 (Part II) - Knockdown Center - Queens, NY - 12/8-9/2018
In order of appearance:
This was the part of fest where the rollercoaster metaphor begins to take that first drop into pure adrenaline. Holy shit, the run from here through the very end when I finally left for the night was just so fucking awesome. I had gotten myself pretty fucking drunk (by my standards) at this point and perhaps that me being loosen by booze and being in such a good mood made it especially crystallized in my memory. 🍻
I don’t remember what happened leading up to it, but the dude from Autoerotichrist was bleeding from his head throughout the entire set...holy fuck. 😱 Linekraft made me scared in the best way possible. I got a few Linekraft releases I bought at the fest, will try listen to it later in the week. And finally Vitriol...wow. IDK if G.C. Green has plans to do another album or do live shows aside from this one, but I wish he does. I-VII is possibly one of the best “one-off” albums ever IMO. 🔥

In order of appearance:
Black Leather Jesus
Ok, here we go...the biggest and most anticipated “event” of the year for me. I’m separating this in parts until I’ve gotten through everything (at least up to the point where I left and called it a night which was some point during the “late” show). I’ll also give my words about the whole thing throughout these photo & video sets...or at least try to.
It’s been a few days since it happened, but honestly I still can’t believe it actually happened. I said that ‘bout last year’s edition but I digress...This wasn’t a “normal” show to me, nor did it felt like a “normal” festival. This was a happening. 🎊
Starting off with Black Leather Jesus, Pod Blitz, 51717 and Country Club pretty much set the rollercoaster ride in motion as it gradually rises up to the top and takes the drop into an adrenaline rush. I thought of this first part of the fest as the “discovery” portion. I’m turning a quarter century in March but as far as the culture of the underground, industrial, noise, dance, electronic, whatever you want to call it, I feel like I’m 8 years old knowing nothing about the culture but having an extreme culture shock and a never ending fascination and maybe even enlightened arousal with it. I don’t think I’d ever come across any of the acts during the early portion of the fest of it wasn’t for Hospital in some way, so kudos to that! 🙌
