One of the main benefits is the increased ability for high intensity work. Creatine that is stored in cells is used to supply your muscles with immediate energy, ensuring that your muscles don’t fatigue to early. Supplementing with creatine means you have more creatine stored in your muscle cells. In turn, a higher capacity to do more work because you have the ability to supply more energy to the muscle.
There have been a lot of studies showing that it also enhances recovery. The basis of these studies are that they monitor certain markers of cell damage in the presence/absence of creatine. In the cohort that used creatine, they found these markers of cell damage to be reduced. So less cell damage (better recovery) for those who had taken creatine.
Increase in muscle volume. I kind of touched on this last week because creatine molecules have a large amount of water attached to them. This causes muscle cells to inflate and have a more inflated look. It also important that they have water attached because it aids in protein synthesis! 💪

This #supplementsaturday coincides with #mobilitymonday because they both pertain to SLEEP! People say “I’ll sleep when I die!” But in realty you’ll die earlier if you don’t take care of sleep...
For this week we have a reusable supplement(not really a supplement), something that can be put on to help your sleep hormones during the night time hours.
I have very good eyes but you will see me with these on at night! Why you say? Because the saying Netflix and chill has one problem with it! The screen your staring at emits a high frequency light called blue light that tricks our body to thinking its day time (because the frequency is similar to the sun). Meaning you don’t actually chilllll.. 😏
This makes our body release day time hormones before we go to bed which is a no good for a great night of sleep! Their are many studies that have found that blu light screen exposer before bed led to:
-longer times to fall asleep
-less time spent in REM sleep
-less over all sleep
-less production of melatonin(a biggy)
-and more fatigue the following day
The study showed the same results even if both groups got 8 hrs of sleep (blu light vs non blu light) -
Wow! Also melatonin has a significant affect on body fat and other hormones (which we want to optimize for low body fat/muscle mass) and when you sleep your body is metabolizing fats as a fuel source for most of the cycle.. that being said I know I’ll be making the most out of all my sleeps, and putting these glasses on when the sun goes down is a BIG STEP! Because I’m not about to give up my Netflix and chill 😉
Also popping melatonin all the time won’t fix the issue and can be shown to dull the receptors meaning eventually it won’t be as effective and you might become reliant on it (studies are still out on this do not quote me)
