Over a decade after it was first proposed, and after tribulations including an arbitrary 200-foot height cut by then-City Planning Commissioner Amanda Burden, the Jean Nouvel-designed 53 West 53rd Street has officially topped-out 1,050 feet above street level, as shot by @veryrealandrew!
(Swipe left to see all) A mid-century modern / minimalist style collection of New York’s “supertalls,” a series of rather thin skyscrapers intended to house the extravagantly wealthy and dominate the New York Skyline. Such towers (in order of which they appear) include:
-225 West 57th St. (Central Park Tower)
- 30 & 10 Hudson Yards
- 432 Park Avenue
- 111 West 57th St. (The Steinway Tower)
- 157 West 57th St. (One57)
- One Vanderbilt
Construction is now underway for Brooklyn’s first supertall tower, 9 Dekalb Ave. One of the few projects set to transform the NYC skyline in the next few years. The skyscraper will be 1,066 feet tall, 73 stories, and have 500 residential units with retail in its base.
