What happens when Hong Kong's metro line breaks down right in the middle of peak hour? Chaos and crowds.
Three lines were initially down on Tuesday morning followed by a fourth MTR line - the Tsueng Kwan O Line - a few hours later.
After six hours since the faulty signalling system choked traffic, trains are now running normally.

DONT EAT AT SUBWAY🙀 i went back to get my money after finding a nail and an employee Chris tries telling me that I put the nail in the wrap or that it must have been a “magic trick” that i did!! REPOST #firechris#subway
My attempt at making a pizza subway sandwich at home. I made a foot long shared between two people for around $2.50 aud. While the baguette is different and not as big and the sauce a little different, it was pretty close to the real thing. #winning#sandwich#subway#savings#budget#recipe

It’s hard to measure the quality of a transit system until you see them at their worst. The @mtrhk is regarded as one of the best #transit systems in the world and it’s easy to see why.
While they have, as of recently been dogged with various blunders in their new #infrastructure projects that ultimately sparked controversy and public distrust, they still know how to run a system effectively.
With the aging system that the MTR runs, #outages become inevitable regardless of the frequency and volume of maintenance provided.
They did do a good job of managing people’s expectations by broadcasting updates via the PA system and the app. Their crowd control and the provision of free rides on the MTR was also an admirable move seeing as most people opt to take the MTR despite its higher price because it’s a service that essentially promises speed and consistency, taking a lot of the guess work out of #commuting . By not charging people for trips during the #outage , the MTR shows that they are aware of this, and while they cannot necessarily help riders with the consequences of coming to work late, they can at least make someone’s day a little less worse.
