Last full day in Vienna- we took an extremely long day trip to Salzburg. It was absolutely beautiful along the way! We got to see some of the famous spots from the sound of music, and learn a little bit more on the history of the Von Trapp family. In Salzburg, we took a tour of Mozart's house, and had the very first chocolate made in his honor- a silver wrapped chocolate ball with a center of marzipan and pistachio. After the 4 hour bus ride (each way!) we stopped for dinner, and our last dessert- macarons, a chocolate cake, and a pistachio petit four. The last thing we did on this trip was visit St. Stephen's cathedral. So beautiful inside! My favorite part was the tour of the catacombs underneath- literally mountains of bones filled the underground. I think the guide said 11-17,000 people buried in piles there. You could actually see the☠️💀looking back at you... it was quite eerie. Ready for some sleep now 👻😴 #vienna#europe#salzburg#family#vacation#tour#walking#dessert#ststephenscathedral
| for the dark tourist
In the middle of Vienna, the dark and imposing St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom) draws thousands of tourists to gaze at the grand architecture. But there is something to be seen below as well: just beneath the stone floors lie the skeletal remains of over 11,000 people.
For the dark tourist, however, the main attraction of the cathedral lies deeper, literally: beneath it – in its catacombs. In fact, however, only part of the catacombs are actually located under the church, and rather constitute a system of crypts. Here, Vienna's bishops are laid to rest (and other clergy too).
This is a guided tour only. It’s open daily between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Sundays and public holidays in the afternoon only), usually every 15 to 30 minutes depending on demand. I was there at 6:30 p.m. Definitely must back here someday with @tinussasongko. Alone in the catacombs? Nope. Nope.

Katedrale tırmanmak için yaklaşık 300’den fazla merdiven çıkmak gerekiyor.
