When youโ€™re sick, itโ€™s easy to make excuses to not do what you need to do. Now Iโ€™m not saying donโ€™t listen to your body. If your body is telling you to rest, then you need to rest and not put more strain. If you can though, tough it out. I literally had tissue up my runny nose so I could get done with my cardio workout. โ€ข

This was me practicing my wide grip bench last night. Managing to get a good set up to get a better arch to start with and it felt a lot more controlled during the lift on the way down and on the way up as I shortened the distance to press!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

As we approach the end of the year and a time which often brings internal reflection I wanted to talk about Health and what it means to me. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”-I thought it was restricting my eating every day and training 7 days a week. Turns out that wasnโ€™t true and that didnโ€™t make me happy.
โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”
I spent a long time thinking that the more control I had over my food and the more I exercised the happier I was. I would beat myself up if I didnโ€™t train enough every day to โ€˜earnโ€™ my calories for the day. It was a viscous circle of eating less and training more and although I liked the way it made my body look I lost myself along the way.  I became a bit of a social recluse and avoided going out with friends and even meeting up for coffee as I then couldnโ€™t control my food and might miss out on being in the gym. My realisation point that this was not normal was when I had an injury and I still didnโ€™t miss a single gym session (this is another story for another day!). I didnโ€™t want my gravestone to read โ€˜Here lies Jen, she missed everything because she was in the gym!โ€™.

Long story short, my healthy is now training when I want to and eating when I am hungry. I still find it very difficult sometimes to listen to how I feel and be able to say no to training or yes to an extra bit of cake but I am much closer to having balance most of the time and I am lucky that I have the Other Mutha to remind me when I am losing perspective. โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”It can be hard to find our own version of healthy in culture full of aesthetic pressures and expectations. One thing that I have loved over the last year in my health & wellness journey has been learning how to move & strengthen my body in new ways. The last program that we did had a lot of upper-body focus & that was something VERY new to me!

I wasnโ€™t happy with the way my soft arms looked & to me the tone that I saw on other women was a really beautiful representation of not only physical strength but of a dedication & a mental strength as well

Iโ€™m still reaching & pushing for my strength but Iโ€™m having a lot of fun along the way... & once you start seeing even those tiny changes... WOW that lights a ๐Ÿ”ฅ!

Goal setting is really important as you donโ€™t want to be too ambitious but you also donโ€™t want to make it too easy. There was a lot of tweaking both performance and competition goals, breaking it down into objectives every 3 months, until we reached achievable but still challenging targets ๐ŸŽฏ

Chatting with people in the gym and discussing this last cycle @theyardpeckham and the volume of back squats has definitely built my strength. And naturally my front squat will have improved but actually so have my box jumps. Itโ€™s the little wins ๐Ÿ™ Iโ€™m sure my cleans will have improved but yet to be tested. .
Plus my wrist was pretty good through the whole cycling. Slowly but surely is getting strong again. Over a year since that injury. This was one set of the 45kg that felt pretty delicious. .

Soooo I thought hard about posting this video. I really didn't want to because of how I look. To others it may just look like I'm working out with my kid (which is awesome btw). To me, I see jiggle jiggle!! EVERYWHERE!! .

Am I being way to damn hard on myself? probably! Am I insecure? sometimes still, YES! Did I post this to get sympathy? NOPE!! .

I posted this video because life isn't about being a size 2 and looking freaking perfect during workouts. Its about not showing a "highlight reel" on my SM! I want to be real and transparent with you! One day I will get to my goals and hopefully not jiggle as much, but for now, THIS IS ME!! Still navigating through this thing called life while trying to be healthy at the same time! .

The biggest thing for me is to show her that's it's ok not to be perfect. As long as you do your damn best then that IS GOOD ENOUGH! You don't have to look a certain way to do certain things. She does these workouts with me now and as she gets older I hope she keeps going with me! .

Day 1๏ธโƒฃ3๏ธโƒฃ When I got diagnosed with cancer 7 years ago, I created a kind of bucket/ wish list of things I want to do. In fairness, I haven't really done many of them! ๐Ÿ™ˆ I have all sorts on there like ride a horse and buy a pair of jeans, to trekking to everest base camp and walk the inca trail!

Today however, I ticked 2 off the list - to see a ballet and to watch the nutcracker at Christmas time. It was absolutely amazing to watch and I'm so glad I brought a ticket! @bhamroyalballet were fantastic!

I also enjoyed a wander around the shops and brought 2 books. One to hopefully help with my nutrition assessment and one by the wonderful @r_mcgregor. I had the pleasure of attending her talk at the future of food conference, but there was only so much you can cover in an hour! But the talk left me eager to learn more! I have to say Birmingham looks very christmassy at the mo, especially with the Christmas Market on (had a mooch around there as well)! And of course dinner was at @wagamama_uk! It just tastes so good! Now after the world's hottest shower, it time for pj's, fleecy blanket, hot choc and @brumhippodrome guide. Time to book some shows for next year! ๐Ÿ’–

This will be the last bootcamp of 2018.
It will start up again in the new year from Saturday 5th January.
12 exercises that are to be chipped away from 12 reps. of each, to 11, then 10, then 9..... and so on.
This workout has an initial 40 minute timecap on it, but if you have not managed to complete all the reps. down to 1 of each you have the option of a 1 minute rest after the 40 minutes, then a further 5 minutes to try and race through your remaining reps.
(Basically you can do a 45 minute workout with a 1 minute rest after 40 minutes if you like!).
