From the conversations I hear and the images I see it feels as if the world is carrying a heavy load. below are the stages of stress, check yourself and make sure you are not normalizing your stress level. Just because we experience things on a regular bases  doesn't  mean our mind was meant to process such things. 
Alarm - The first stage of stress is your body's immediate reaction to the stressor (realizing a project is due at work, being unable to pay a bill, etc.). Typically, your body's initial stress response is strong as it works to fight the stressor; you may notice an increased heart rate, sudden sweating, nervous fidgeting, and more as your body reacts to the cause of your stress. This reaction is part of our innate tendency towards a "fight or flight" response, which results in a burst of adrenaline through our system.
Resistance - The second stage of stress is where our bodies attempt to return to a normal balance, counteracting the "alarm" response in the first stage. Generally, when you enter into this stage you will begin to feel calmer-almost as if they stress has disappeared-and have the false sense that you are no longer under any mental duress. However, this is merely another way your body attempts to handle stress, which means over time your body cannot maintain it.

Exhaustion - The final stress stage is exhaustion, which results from your body's trying to combat stress for an extended period of time. Typically, in this stage you'll find yourself feeling run down and with far less energy than normal. You may fall ill easier as your immune system can also weaken due to stress. This stage is a signal that your stress is severe and most likely chronic or long-term.

So you've narrowed down that your hormonal symptoms are at least in part caused by under eating (if you're not sure take a look at a few of my recent posts about this). What do you do now? I gotchu 🙋‍♀️

First, understand that chronic under eating sabotages your hormones in two main ways:
1. depletion of raw materials needed for hormone production 
2. It’s a major source of stress to your system (your brain doesn't think it's smart to procreate when there's a famine going on🤷‍♀️) .

How to address #1: .
•Track your intake + gradually increase to at or above maintenance needs (we can NOT be dieting year-round and expect to feel good 🤯) .
•Focus on a nutrient-dense, real food diet with balanced macros .
•Replete deficient nutrients (lab testing is a game changer here) - a few big ones for hormones are vitamin C, omega 3 fatty acids, choline, vitamin D, zinc and magnesium . .

How to address #2:
•take inventory of the various stressors in your life
•remove/reduce the ones that you can control
•test out stress-busting habits to find the right fit for you: meditation, deep breathing, journaling, visualization, yoga, walking, reading, music, etc. These things (done daily) make a HUGE difference ✨

Grew weary of counting days so I switched to weeks 😝. Reintro’ed garlic and it was alright! Maybe not my 150% best feeling, but also not how I felt with lactose, cauli, or onions. Praise be to honey and apricots 🙏🏼. I started this journey pretty scared and frustrated. Now I’m used to things and honestly don’t even mind it. (The other life saver is it’s *low* FODMAP, not *no* FODMAP. It’s dose dependent; so just a couple bites or sips of something likely doesn’t make a difference. Woot.) And THANK YOU @sprouts for offering this awesome af onion and garlic free sauce!!!! Bonus that it tastes absolutely amazing. 🥰🍅🍝 Up next: wheat and beanzzz.

Being human, we are prewired to experience fear from time to time. Look at it as an ancestral survival mechanism. When we sense danger, the body releases adrenaline and cortisol to prepare our brain and muscles in case we need to defend ourselves or run for an immediate threat.😰

Today, we are not often faced with life or death situations in our daily life. Yet, wether we are late for an exam, in trouble with our boss or  are about to give a speech, we STILL have the same physiological response as if we were in actual mortal danger.😱
.
Now, wether you’re excited or fearful, the body reacts the same. What gives it a feeling, either positive or negative, is the name we attach to the “rush” we are feeling. So how we can change that fear to excitement and experience less anxiety?👍🏻

We must recognize when we are feeling fearful and analyze the thoughts we are having in our head. Are you playing a negative narrative in face of the situation? “I am not qualified for this new position”. “What it they think I sound stupid?”. “What if I fail?”. This is where the magic can happen. We control our thoughts, not the other way around. What if we changed to a positive narrative that feels equally true to us? “I have experience and am qualified for this role”. “I will sound knowledgeable during my presentation”. “I will succeed in this endeavour”. Doesn’t sound too complicated right?👊

Try it for yourself. Every time you notice anxiety or fear creeping in, make that conscious choice of changing your narrative. Find thoughts that empower you in face of the stressful situation and notice how you become excited rather than afraid!🎉

Today I want to talk about chronic stress and the damaging affects on your body, mood and behavior 💯.

Stress is a normal part of life and yes whether it be good or bad, stress is something we have all experienced at one time or another 😊.
.
However chronic stress occurs when  you are faced with continuous challenges without relief or relaxation between these challenges.  This is when unwanted tension can build ❌.
.
All of a sudden you are tired all of the time yet you can’t seem to sleep properly.  Your blood pressure may rise or you begin to put on excess weight.  You start to feel depressed and your body beginnings to ache, not to mention your digestive system is a mess 🤦‍♀️.
.
Trust me, I know because I have suffered it all 🙄.
.
Stress is a topic very close to my heart having suffered chronic stress for many years. After my Son’s cancer diagnosis closely followed by my marriage breakdown I was plagued with grief and negative self talk for ten solid years 🤭. The toll it took on my mood and body were astronomical resulting in suffering depression and developing Ankylosing Spondalitis (arthritis of the spine)😥.

The good news is I no longer live this life.  I have learned how to manage my stress with a few simple tips and tricks; some of which I would like to share with you now:
.
1️⃣ Exercise regularly.  Your body will fight stress a lot better when fit.
2️⃣ Relax through varying techniques.  Why not try yoga, meditation or just BREATH.
3️⃣ Eat clean HEALTHY well balanced meals.
4️⃣ Listen to your body.  If it needs to rest, then REST.
5️⃣ Make time fore yourself.  Spend time on A HOBBIE that interests you.

 I get it! I know what struggle is. I can't eat anything much these days and it's not getting better.(yet ) But I know I don't want to go back to being depressed.

We have a choice. As crappy as life can seem sometimes, we can respond however we want to. We have that choice. It is skill we can learn. Depression and anxiety can't ever take that power away from us!!!

 I know depression is real. I would never down play that. Our worth and our power to choose how we want to respond is real too. So is our abilities to turn things around. Its always there. We use that power every day we get up and try again.

We need someone to have faith in us when we lose faith in ourselves. And I have faith in YOU.😀

Wellbeing Tip 5: Mindfulness with Flowers part 2. 🌸🌸🌸 Flowers + Altruism. 🌸🌸🌸 If flowers promote positive social behavior as well as elevate mood, then why not take the opportunity give them as a gift to someone having a tough time? .
〰️The Science of Altruism〰️
. 🧠Doing a good deed releases endorphines and can make us feel good in the same way that exercising does. .
🌹Helping others or doing good can also improve physical health. Clinical research trials show that volunteers live longer and have better physical health than non volunteers. .
🌹Helping others also distracts you from your own suffering. Research has found that people who have medical conditions such as chronic pain for example who council others with similar conditions experience less depression, distress and disability. .
🌹It increases feelings of gratitude. When we do something to help someone who is doing it tough that can help us be more thankful for what we have and the good fortune that is in it. Sometimes it helps to put our own troubles into perspective too.

I knew I'd get stretch marks. I had them already since my teen years around my hips and bum. When my stomach started expanding exponentially in my third trimester, I didn't quite know how to feel about the skin stretching around this baby I had created inside me.

I moisturised. But probably not as much as I should have. Is there realistically any cream that stops your skin from stretching, like they advertise? Or is it that people who have no stretch marks during pregnancy have naturally bouncy skin.

Mainly I felt awe that my skin could do that. It was literally stretching around the life I made inside me.
• 
Now the awe has kinda subsided. I look down and don't recognise the body I have. That's going to take some getting used to. I look at women in the spotlight who show their post baby bodies with pride (@davinamccall @emilyskyefit )and hope I can find my inner tiger like them and embrace those stripes!

So how's your Monday been? Mine started at 4am 😳 I just couldn't sleep so did a bit more work on my website, then got dressed, did the school run, got to work, went through my email, answered the phone, had lunch...sigh 🙄

I love my morning coffee. I noticed over the last few months that I was drinking a cup first thing, then another cup mid-morning, and sometimes even a third cup in the afternoon. The first time it happened, I thought it was just because I was particularly tired that day, but a few weeks in and still wanting all that coffee didn't make sense to me. I ran a few tests. My thyroid was fine, my B12 was within range, but my cortisol levels were low across the board. If my cortisol levels are low, that affects my other hormone levels as well. .

No wonder I was feeling the need for a pick me up all day long!  Cortisol is created by the adrenal glands. Our bodies are supposed to surge cortisol in the morning so we can get out of bed and I was not getting that. The first thing I did was reset my bedtime and set an alarm to get me winding down by 9:00. Then I started substituting my afternoon cup of coffee for either a cup of green tea when I was out and about or a short nap if I could swing it. .

I added in some adrenal support and focused on a low glycemic diet. I switched to half decaf-half regular, and a week later switched my second cup to all decaf and eventually dropped it (most days). Now I am working on shifting to all decaf in the morning. These are all helpful, but the big mover is taking a look at how I am dealing with stress. Chronic stress taxes our adrenal glands. While we all have stress in our lives, how we deal with that stress is key to how our bodies respond. Rebalancing takes time and doing it gently helps me make the changes that I need to make.
