Stressed? Try and integrate physical exercise into your daily activities. 🏃 Make it a lifestyle thing, as it is very effective in relieving stress. Even just going out and getting some fresh air, and taking some light physical exercise, like going for a walk can really help. -

My most recent worry: being anxious about starting my new job today means I’m “regressing” back into old patterns of anxiety. .
I already KNOW this isn’t true, but I still worry about it.

Stuff that helps: writing down the FACTS (e.g., everyone is nervous starting a new job, excitement is often confused with nervousness, I can’t think of a time I started something new and it didn’t go well, I’ve been managing my anxiety for 10+ years...), worry times (see previous post on this), meditation/mindfulness.

Things that don’t help: reassurance seeking, avoidance, catastrophizing...
.
So a better way to rephrase my worry from the first sentence might be, “I’m nervous because it’s new and it’s important to me to do well because I’m excited about it. Everyone gets nervous about these things and it doesn’t mean anything about the future. The only way anxiety can become a huge problem again is if you start avoiding things like this.”

Doesn’t get rid of the nervousness, but puts it in perspective, which is everyyyythiiiing. Typing this is #selfcare

Also: gratitude is huge - I’m starting a job I’m so excited about, the time zone is earlier so I don’t feel sleep 😂, the weather is amazing and I’m in a beautiful spot in San Francisco about to drink COFFEE. Coffee is probably most important. . .

The next topic we will be exploring for a few days is emotions and emotional regulation. Let’s start off with what does emotional regulation even mean?

We all have overwhelming and challenge emotions to deal with. However, as we get older, the expectations on how we manage these emotions increases. Emotional regulation can be summed up as the ability for someone to manage these challenging (often viewed as negative emotions- example: anger, frustration, or anxiety) and not allow them to drive our behaviours or interactions.

Trying to kick my caffeine habit (as coffee makes me feel like I can cope better but actually I think is just keeping my stress response going 🤓) with this wonderful big bottle of homemade golden milk.

1 cup oats to 5 cups water blended at high speed for about 2 mins with turmeric, cinnamon, Black pepper, cardamom, dried dates or apricots, raw honey and a tap of coconut oil (collagen if you have it) strained through a sieve (keep the oat mush to add to your breakfast oats!) and done! I have a little cup of this each day (heated up) and it’s so soothing and delicious with lots of great benefits from all the spices! •

Whenever we take big steps in our lives those fear gremlins get loud. Telling us all of the reasons we should come back to where it is safe. That voice is very creative and comes up with the most extreme stories and scenarios. But our job is not to fight fear and win a battle but rather to get curious, befriend it and recognize it in a nurturing way. Of course when you do things that are new and uncomfortable it will show up, it’s trying to protect you. Fear will never disappear, but your relationship with it can change profoundly. I have been taking big leaps in my business and of course fear showed up, a whole lot of imposter syndrome was making its way into my dialogue but I noticed it quickly and questioned its validity. I was conscious of what was going on and smiled and laughed…no fighting it just welcoming it in with ease and compassion. How do you cope when fear shows up in your life?

Helaas kan het echt iedereen overkomen, vooral als je stresssignalen lange tijd negeert. En eerlijk is eerlijk in de drukte van werk, gezin/familie, vriendschappen, sporten is het ook echt wel lastig om op een goede manier met stress om te gaan. Om daar een 'balans' in zien te vinden. *

Wat zijn nu klachten die je serieus moet nemen? De klachten zijn onderverdeeld in verschillende groepen. Om te veel stress te ervaren hoef je niet alle klachten te ervaren, maar merk je wel dat verschillende van onderstaande klachten al langer aanwezig zijn, wacht dan niet, maar onderneem actie! *
Emotioneel: prikkelbaar, onzekerheid, slapeloosheid, desinstresse, lusteloosheid.
Lichamelijk: zweten, gewichtstoename/afname, pijn op de borst, hoofdpijn, duizeligheid.
Motoriek: rugpijn, spanning nek/schouders, moe gevoel, spanningshoofdpijn.
Verstandelijk: vergeetachtig, inspiratieloos, piekeren, besluiteloos.
Gedrag: onderpresteren, agressie, sociale isolatie, huilen, slaappillen gebruik, intolerantie. *

Here’s your virtual ticket to remind you that you can do hard things, and there are lessons even within the hardest situations/times. ✨Focus on these lessons and work towards finding gratitude, even in the smallest things. Remember... hard times don’t last forever... 𝒷𝓇𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒹𝒶𝓎𝓈 𝒶𝓇𝑒 𝒶𝒽𝑒𝒶𝒹!☀️

Plus, I want you to know that I am posting these words because I’m clinging to them myself, too. I have aging parents, a father with dementia, and a son who is going through some serious mental health issues right now. Some days I just want to hide in my bed, but I can’t.  I know the most important things I can control and do now is: 
1️⃣ Take care of myself the best I can physically through exercise and self care.
2️⃣ Focus on all the good things and write in my gratitude journal. 
3️⃣ Find ways to laugh and time with good friends. 
4️⃣ Pray and rely on my faith. 
It takes a conscious effort every day, and I’m not always perfect, but that’s ok. 🙏🏼You must also give yourself  𝖌𝖗𝖆𝖈𝖊 during these times. 👇🏼

🐥What is your evening routine? (Other than Netflix I mean) How do you wash away a long day at work? Some love to take a long bath... I personally prefer a quick 🚿 and spend a few extra minutes hydrating my face often exposed to aircon and  lack of water (am working on it!). An good evening routine can alleviate the day’s stresses, enables you to unwind whilst nurturing your soul so that in turn you get a good repairing sleep 😴 #night #unwind #sleep

Welcome back to therapy tip # 2: CHANGE IS A PROCESS.

It's great that many people are moving beyond the mental health stigma and seeking treatment. Just remember change takes time. You didn't get into your current state overnight and it takes time to change the narrative, develop new ways of thinking, coping as well as change behavior.

Some days you will leave your therapist's office feeling great, other times not so much. Dealing with certain aspects of your life can kick up an array of feelings, thoughts and emotions. During these times it's imperative to stick with it. Be patient with yourself and the process. It will get better in time. Usually change is right on the other side of discomfort. Commit and don't rush the process.

Took a walk along the beach this morning practicing GRATITUDE... The ego always has a list of desires, expectations and cravings ... always wanting more, always wanting something, distracted from what is infront and blind to what is here ... NOW ... in this moment ... practicing GRATITUDE in any given moment brings the attention back to here, NOW ... dissolves the 'craving discontent ego'  and opens the senses to the wondrous experience that surrounds us in each and every moment... I arrived back from my own experience of cravings this morning and found this vista infront of my eyes. The fresh sea air filled my lungs as GRATITUDE filled every cell in my body ... ❤

You ever feel like you do all the right things, the things “you’re suppose to do,” yet still feel stuck?

Iv been meditating a lot lately..when I say a lot, it’s relative to me and my schedule which is usually 10 minutes a day but sometimes 5 or one minute if my schedule gets too out of control. .
Without a doubt, the more frequent I meditate, the better I am to be more objective from moment to moment, handling the various challenges that arise. .
Yet certain things happen that annoy the shit out of me and I react emotionally. Like yesterday, did my routine and felt great then had some business stuff come up n knock me off track. .
But because of making meditation a daily practice, I’ll go back to my breath in these moments and sometimes come to my senses but at the very least I’ll feel better. .
What iv realized (and need to remember) is that the goal is not to be perfectly rational & zen 💯 of the time as that’s just not possible. .
The goal is to quickly recover, to recognize when you get off track, get back to your breath and to do your best to enjoy moment to moment and adjust to what comes your way, rather than wish “what could be.”

My comfort when I’m stressed or frustrated is @rittersport chocolate. I’m journaling and praying more often when I feel my heart start to race from the frustration so that I can just finally give it up. I also give myself a few minutes to be frustrated instead of trying to find a solution right away. It helps me gain perspective and realize, I’ve figured it out before and I’ll figure it out again. Then prioritizing my time and energy to realistically solve the problem (it’s usually childcare or work related) gives me clarity and an actionable plan to get through it.💪🏾 How do you manage your sweet tooth under stress?

Stress has so much to do with your body’s inflammatory responses. Under stress, hormones are released from your neuroendocrine system. Mediators released from your immune cells, the same ones that are released with trauma or physical injury, are evoked and produce an inflammatory response*. However it manifests itself in or on your body, stress is one of those factors that can be so hard to manage. We are constantly bombarded with life “stuff” - work,  kids, family, errands, broken relationships the list can go on. After a while, things can compound, showing up as inflammation, anywhere. My own stress lead to severe allergies to both drugs and food, eczema and rosacea. Managing stress, after years of not understanding the root cause of all my issues and the toll it took, put me on the path to getting better. .
