Tomorrow I'm finally getting a minor surgery done that will have a HUGE positive effect on the quality of my life..! Yes, starting tomorrow I will be able to run and jump and go crazy with jumping jacks WORRY FREE! At this point every woman with multiple pregnancies and births know what I'm talking about..! Yes? It's not a sexy subject, I agree! But it's soooo real for so many women and it's not been openly discussed very often. Anyway, I've put it off for 7 years and now, with my lifestyle, I really want it to be fixed. Can't wait! No heavy lifting for 2 weeks, though.. 🤔🤔🤔

The last 12 months have been an incredible journey of discovery, of testing, of planning, of alignment and of making sure the vision, the mission and the movement was big enough (it wasn’t - we had to keep thinking bigger!) 👏👍 Both @thequeenofstress and @pepperpotmktg are super excited about the future and about 2019 as the way to make the global impact they want and to really change people’s lives is getting clear. 😌

The Momentum Architects began as a side hustle to the businesses they were both running. Aimed at adding some additional tools and techniques to small business owners. Whilst this is still very valuable and something they are still passionate about - this wasn’t going to impact enough people without really focusing on how to take the business to the next level and to new audiences. 👍

So - for starters, the @themomentumlifeproject will be leaving the Wellness Couch and this will be the last episode 😔 In the future, the podcast will have a new home, a new look, a new format and a new name! 👋

Yea man. I was too. I spent years as a personal trainer & national level figure competitor but never heard of this muscle. 🧐WHY does this muscle matter?! Well look how BIG it is. Annnnd look how it connects the upper body, to the lower body and the spine ANNNND wraps allllll the way around the torso. 
No. Other. Core. Muscles. Does. This. ☝️That’s gotta mean something!!! Right?! Sure does. This muscle is responsible for structural integrity of the core, the foundation for motion and SUPPORTS THE BELLY IN PREGNANCY. 🤰YES. You read that right. This muscle is the one that keeps your tummy comfy, pelvis stable and symphysis together. 
So. My question is...in pregnant and postpartum, are you actively strengthening this muscle? No? You went straight to planks and crunches? Oops. You skipped step one!

8 things that your doctor/healthcare provider may not have told you about your #postpartumbody:
•
1. Your core muscles need to re-connect and regain function if you want a tummy that looks/feels/functions like it’s supposed to after baby.  Reconnecting with those deeper core muscles is the first step towards regaining your fitness after baby, not boot camp.
•
 2. Crunches, planks and aggressive ‘ab work’ aren’t going to fix your tummy.  In fact, these exercises will most likely make it worse.
•
3. Diastasis Recti is a reason your tummy pooches or domes when you roll up from lying on your back, do certain exercises, or why you look a few months pregnant when you’re not. Diastasis Recti means that your six pack ab muscles have separated leaving a gap and everything in the middle unsupported and weak.
•
 4. Diastasis Recti is merely a symptom of the problem with your core. The problem is that the pressure inside of your core is pushing out on the abdominal and stretching it thus making it weaker.  Binding, sewing up your core, or sucking it in all day won’t fix the pressure problem either.  Learning how to reconnect with your core, realign your body, and restoring strength and function to your core will fix the problem.
•
5. Stress or urge incontinence and pelvic floor weakness is very common, but it is NOT normal nor untreatable.
•
6. Surgery isn’t the only solution to fix #stressincontinence, #diastasisrecti, #hernia or #pelvicorganprolapse, and there is a LOT you can do to reduce the pressure causing these problems.
•
7. It isn’t selfish to want a body that functions as it should and makes you feel good and confident. Peeing yourself when you laugh or sneeze, not wanting to look at yourself naked, or avoiding sex because of your core and pelvic floor issues is NOT the norm for a mom, and you don’t have to suffer in silence!
•

8 things that your doctor/healthcare provider may not have told you about your #postpartumbody : • 1. Your core muscles need to re-connect and regain function if you want a tummy that looks/feels/functions like it’s supposed to after baby. Reconnecting with those deeper core muscles is the first step towards regaining your fitness after baby, not boot camp. • 2. Crunches, planks and aggressive ‘ab work’ aren’t going to fix your tummy. In fact, these exercises will most likely make it worse. • 3. Diastasis Recti is a reason your tummy pooches or domes when you roll up from lying on your back, do certain exercises, or why you look a few months pregnant when you’re not. Diastasis Recti means that your six pack ab muscles have separated leaving a gap and everything in the middle unsupported and weak. • 4. Diastasis Recti is merely a symptom of the problem with your core. The problem is that the pressure inside of your core is pushing out on the abdominal and stretching it thus making it weaker. Binding, sewing up your core, or sucking it in all day won’t fix the pressure problem either. Learning how to reconnect with your core, realign your body, and restoring strength and function to your core will fix the problem. • 5. Stress or urge incontinence and pelvic floor weakness is very common, but it is NOT normal nor untreatable. • 6. Surgery isn’t the only solution to fix #stressincontinence , #diastasisrecti , #hernia  or #pelvicorganprolapse , and there is a LOT you can do to reduce the pressure causing these problems. • 7. I've been Sarah on the right for more than half my life and I never want to be back there

There are lots of ways you can make pooping easier so that you don't have to push and strain

A real simple one is as above:

Get something that you can put your feet on to lift your knees above your hips in sitting

If there's nothing around I squat on the loo seat
💩
Other things like making sure you have a good, well-balanced diet and are doing enough exercise to help push the poop through the pipes
💩
Magnesium is a good one too which you can take in pill form (magnesium citrate) or a good old soak in an Epsom salt bath (consult a specialist to see if this is suitable spesh if you're taking other meds)
💩
The main thing for me has been significantly reducing my stress and anxiety by making sure I am happy every single damn day and doing the things that I love

Breathing. This is the first exercise I give to almost every patient I see. Specifically, I train them in diaphragmatic breathing, also sometimes referred to as “belly breathing”. In my second post, the pelvic floor is only part of what makes up our core - the other two parts are our abdominal muscles and our DIAPHRAGM. 
The picture above shows that the diaphragm is the ceiling of our core. In this position, it functions in opposition to the pelvic floor muscles. As we inhale, our diaphragm descends into the abdominal cavity so that our lungs can expand, effectively forcing a stretch of our abdominal wall and our pelvic floor muscles. Mechanically, this facilitates normal mobility and coordination of these muscle groups.

Diaphragmatic breathing also benefits our system physiologically. You have likely heard the term “fight or flight” in reference to our sympathetic nervous system (SNS). With the bright lights, loud noises, and long to-do lists that plague our days, many people have lives which are ruled by the “fight or flight” system. If your body is run by your SNS, you will experience increased heart rate, increased respiratory rate, increased blood pressure, as well as symptoms often addressed in pelvic floor physical therapy like chronic pain, poor digestion, and sexual dysfunction. With diaphragmatic breathing, you can break the cycle of “fight or flight” and learn to spend more time functioning from the “rest and digest” or parasympathetic nervous system (PNS). How do you know if you are breathing with your diaphragm? First, place one hand on your chest and one hand on your belly. As you inhale, you should feel your belly expand like a balloon with minimal movement felt at your chest. As you exhale, you should feel both hands return to their starting position. It is important to note that you are not forcing your belly to expand or purposefully taking deep breaths. We are only changing the location of the breath, not the rate or the depth. The first video demonstrates “chest breathing” while the second video demonstrates correct “diaphragmatic breathing”.

DRA is a natural occurrence during pregnancy. As the uterus expands, it stretches the abdominal wall, causing separation. It is very common in pregnant and postpartum women, affecting up to 60% of post partum women.😮

What are the symptoms❓🤔

Many women don’t know that have DRA. The abdominal separation may not be painful itself, but the effects of it can cause pain.

❎Low pain, pelvic or hip pain
❎Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction (incontinence)
❎Poor posture
❎Feeling weak or “flabbiness” through your midsection

What can you do about it❓

Physical therapy has been shown to be a HIGHLY effective approach to both prevention and treatment of DRA. 🙌

Physical therapy will help you learn how to stabilize your core, without overuse of your rectus muscle, by training your transverse abdominus (deep abdominal muscles) and pelvic floor muscles.💪
