Burlington textile plant in Cheraw has been contaminating the area since 1961 and complaints from community-members have been recorded as early as the 70s. In one case, a complaint about green sludge draining off the plant site was registered.

Only in the past two years has the severity of the contamination been discovered, when tests showed high levels of industrial toxins in soil downstream from the plant, according to EPA documents. State regulators also have issued warnings urging people to limit their consumption of fish from the nearby Great Pee Dee River because of PCB contamination, like that on the Burlington site.” Read more here: https://www.thestate.com/latest-news/article218650635.html#storylink=cpy

FORT WORTH
Weather permitting, a team of divers and crews are scheduled to retrieve three cars from the bottom of Benbrook Lake on Saturday in hopes of finding clues to the 1974 disappearance of three Fort Worth girls.

The divers from North Texas Marine Recovery & Salvage have raised about $12,000 for equipment to pull the vehicles out of the lake.

They’ve been assisted by Rusty Arnold of Edgecliff Village, the brother of one of the girls who disappeared in December 1974. For years, Arnold, other family members and friends have tracked down leads and tips throughout Texas in an effort to solve the city’s most famous cold case.

Not the first pedophile we have come across in the cannabis industry. NEWS STORY: The founder of a Bay Area pro-cannabis children’s charity has been arrested for allegedly attempting to arrange a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl.

Bryan Rosenthal, 45, of Vallejo is the founder of cannabis-focused Cann-I-Dream, which has a stated goal to “make a better life for our children, thus creating a world full of abundance, love, and hope for our future,” according to SFGate.

In early September, the San Francisco Police Department learned of “an individual who was attempting to meet and have sexual contact with a (14-year-old girl) through online social media,” according to a police statement posted on Facebook.
The suspect, later identified as Rosenthal, also attempted to send graphic images to the child, police said.

Police said they arrested Rosenthal on Sept. 11 when he attempted to meet with the child.

His cellphone, which was seized in the arrest, revealed “Rosenthal was having sexually explicit chats and conversations with other underage minors, and was attempting to meet several of them for sexual contact,” police said.

Rosenthal is being held in San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of several charges, including possession and production of child pornography.

🗞 In the late 1990s, there was Floyd. Now there’s Florence. The rain continued while Simmons sat in the boat.
Simmons said he’d had the cat for weeks, and yet when asked what the cat’s name was, Simmons gave an answer that almost sounded scripted, and too good to be true. Perhaps he’d improvised in the moment.
The kitten’s name, Simmons said, is Survivor.
Soon their ride ended. Simmons walked down a quiet road, toward a nearby shelter, with Survivor holding on. 🗞

This Southern California ice cream truck took false advertising to a whole new level.

On its side, the white truck in North Long Beach featured signs offering frozen treats like ice cream cones, Popsicles and ice cream sandwiches. Some of the goodies were even shaped like cartoon characters — from SpongeBob SquarePants and Spider-Man to Minions, photos show.

But that’s not what the two men operating the truck were really selling, Long Beach police said in a Sunday post on Twitter. When authorities raided the truck, they found a bag of methamphetamine, marijuana in mason jars and small baggies, a box of sandwich bags, a scale, a wad of cash and a revolver, photos show. Two suspects from Long Beach — 57-year-old George Sylvester Williams and 41-year-old Monti Michael Ware — were arrested on suspicion of selling drugs from the vehicle, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reports. The arrest happened around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Police said Williams is being held on $30,000 bail, while Ware — who also faces charges for possessing a gun while dealing drugs and possessing a gun as an ex-felon — is being held on $50,000 bail, the Press-Telegram reports.

Long Beach police spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said the drugs the men kept in the ice cream truck would have sold on the street for as much as $4,000, the Long Beach Post reports.

@miamiherald article: Endangered species exhibit
Learn more about the Schaus swallowtail butterfly, the Eastern indigo snake, the American crocodile and the 14 other #endangered #species that live at @BiscayneNPS (Biscayne National Park) at two environmental art exhibits at the @HibiscusGallery (Hibiscus Gallery) in @PinecrestGarden (Pinecrest Gardens), 11000 Red Road, Pinecrest, FL.

This #gallery event is open through Sept. 3.

The exhibits, “Endangered World: Biscayne National Park” and “80.15W,” are by artist-in-residence @Xcortada (Xavier Cortada), who seeks to highlight endangered species at the park and internationally.

Cortada has presented works around the world. Some of his achievements include working with #scientists and cultural groups to produce collaborative eco-art in #Taiwan, #Hawaii and #Holland; peace murals in #Cyprus and #NorthernIreland; child welfare murals in #Bolivia and #Panama; AIDS murals in #Switzerland and #SouthAfrica; and environmental art installations at the #NorthPole and #SouthPole.

Cortada and Biscayne National Park ranger Gary Bremen spoke about the work at the recent opening reception.
The “80.15W” exhibit includes haunting works that represent the 17 endangered animals. Guests can look at the #artwork and see their reflections in the dark carbon paper under glass. The paper represents the “carbon footprint” impact people have had on animals and their environment. Find out more at http://hibiscusgallery.com.

Halloween or Hallo-weed? Cannabis Cup will return to Sacramento at the end of October, sponsor High Times magazine recently announced on Twitter. When Cannabis Cup hit Cal Expo in May, the event became the city’s first legal marijuana exhibition.

Tickets are now on sale for Cannabis Cup California, scheduled for Oct. 27-28 and again held at Cal Expo.

Billed as a “spooktacular” Halloween weekend celebration, the 21-and-older event will bring weed sales and consumption together with music, according to High Times’ website.
There was some uncertainty leading up to Cannabis Cup Central Valley in May, as a one-time license permitting sale and use of marijuana during the festival was issued just days before the event. A SoCal show, weeks earlier, had its permit request denied at the last minute, and it therefore proceeded primarily as a music concert.

Ultimately, May’s event at Cal Expo got the OK from the Sacramento City Council by a 6-2 vote.

Councilman Jeff Harris, one of the “no” votes, said just days before the May expo: “I don’t think we’re ready for this type of event in Sacramento. We’ve never had a conversation about adult use in public.”
The May event, a concert as well as weed exhibition, boasted big-name music artists including rappers Rick Ross, Lauryn Hill and Lil Wayne, a noted marijuana enthusiast. That lineup was announced about two weeks ahead of the event.

No lineup has yet been announced for the “scary” Halloween-time music festival, but the odds of a weed-friendly headliner seem pretty high (excuse the pun). Security was fairly tight in May, and alcohol sales weren’t allowed at the festival. More than 10,000 people attended.

FOLSOM: Three people were arrested Saturday morning after police say they found 528 marijuana plants in a Folsom home.

Officers served a search warrant in the 700 block of Winscombe Court for a suspected commercial marijuana growing operation and found 528 marijuana plants and five pounds of dry marijuana, according to a news release from the Folsom Police Department.

No one was at the home when officers served the search warrant, according to Sgt. Andrew Bates. Tao Zheng, 27; Guoye Jiang, 33; and Guomin Jiang, 31, all of Folsom, arrived at the home after the warrant was served and were arrested, he said.

While serving the search warrant, police say, they found that electricity was being obtained illegally and, as a result, the home was receiving more than 20 times the amount of electricity a normal home uses. The electrical modifications were not in compliance with electrical building codes, the release said. The suspects were booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of planting, cultivating or harvesting more than six living marijuana plants and obtaining unauthorized utility services in excess of $400. They are all being held without bail, according to Sacramento County Jail inmate records.

Haiti Corruption

A special Haitian Senate commission is accusing more than a dozen former government officials and heads of private firms of embezzling $2 billion in Venezuelan oil loans — money that could have helped the country rebuild after its devastating earthquake in 2010.

An anti-corruption investigation concluded that charges should be filed against two former prime ministers, several ex-ministers and the owners of private firms on grounds they misappropriated and embezzled money that left post-quake Haiti with unfinished government buildings, poorly constructed housing and overpriced public works contracts.

The nearly $2 billion that was paid out came from the country’s Venezuelan oil largess, known as PetroCaribe. It provides Haiti and several other cash-strapped Caribbean countries with subsidized oil on favorable financing terms. The debt is stretched over a 25-year period with a 1 percent interest rate and a two- to three-year grace period allowing the countries to use the savings to finance social and economic projects. #haiti #corruption #haitian #government #petrocaribe #hilaryclinton #billclinton #earthquake

Did you know: This year, 162 farmers have signed up to try to land one of an additional 20 permits the state is making available. This time the permits, to be awarded in mid-September, allow 40 acres to be cultivated.

That could become unlimited in 2020 — in both permits and acreage — under the state’s pilot program. But the U.S. Congress is considering legalizing hemp across the board.

Which is good news, said S.C. Agriculture Commissioner Hugh Weathers. “From the outset, we’re always looking for a profitable opportunity to add to the crop mix in South Carolina,” he said. “Hemp appears to have very good potential. The oil and fiber possibilities long term are intriguing. We want South Carolina to be in the mix. And at least 162 South Carolina farmers see it the same.” Read more here: https://www.thestate.com/news/local/article215789045.html#storylink=cpy

A 22-year-old Oakdale motorcyclist died after falling on a curve and sliding into the path of an oncoming vehicle Monday evening.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. on Rodden Road east of Gray Fox Court, just north of Kerr Park in Oakdale. Troy Holder was riding a 2015 Harley-Davidson northwest on Rodden at about 60-65 mph, approaching a sharp curve, the California Highway Patrol reported. As Holder entered the curve, the motorcycle fell onto its right side and into the eastbound lane.

The driver of a 2006 Toyota in the eastbound lane was unable to avoid colliding with the motorcyclist, the CHP said. Holder and his bike went beneath the Toyota and were pinned. Driver Lucas Bell of Knights Ferry was able to stop the Toyota partly in the eastbound lane and partly on the south shoulder.

The one party state is so corrupt even the liberal Sacramento Bee is calling them out.

Since returning for the final month of the legislative session, too many Democrats have displayed why some Californians are concerned about one-party domination of the state Capitol.

Let us count the ways.

Despite hideously long lines at DMV offices, the Democratic-controlled Legislature has let the agency off the hook so far, shielding it from an audit to find out what has gone wrong. By not voting, three Senate Democrats blocked the audit from being approved by a legislative committee.

On that very same day, legislators showered the DMV with more money — $16.6 million to hire 230 more employees. Another $26 million request for 400 workers is under consideration. If an agency gets more resources without more oversight, that’s a recipe for waste or worse.

If nothing changes in Sacramento, then nothing changes! We must fix our state!
