Found a loaded Star Fruit tree within reach of where I am working today. Not a bad mid morning snack. This Iguana is trying to lay claim to the tree, I am just hoping for my share. #stjohn#stjohnusvi#stjohnstrong
Last weekend I went to Lubbock for the Tech/Texas game and got to see so many faces from so long ago. It was really fun and really special. My life has taken some interesting turns since I saw many of these old friends; many of them have faced some interesting turns of their own as well. But they hugged me and loved on me and were so happy and so kind. It really filled me up.
During the game I was in the ladies room with my dear friend Emily and she said something funny and laughingly added “now don’t judge, girl!” To which I laughingly made a comment about some of the s**t that’s gone down in my life and how I would never judge. We were having those really good belly laughs that end in a big sigh and then she said “it’s just good to be free with people you love and who love you back.” And it’s so true. That conversation in the bathroom of Jones Stadium of all places keeps bringing me to tears every time I think about it. There was a time not terribly long ago when I could barely imagine a day when I would laugh so hard again, at a football game, in the bathroom, with a good friend, drinking a beer (times have changed!) and fixing my lipstick. All the heartache and hopelessness and worry and fear are part of my story but not the defining moments and not the feelings I hold now. Today it truly is just good to be free with people I love who love me back. ❤️ I’m grateful.

A happy feast of St. John Chrysostom! He is my patron, and today is also the 31st anniversary of my baptism. Here’s @boozy_mincemeat and I at the Church of St. George at the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul in front of the relics of our respective patrons, St. John and St. Gregory, on our @svots trip in 2013.
The Motor Vessel Grand Vic that is owned and operated by Love City Car Ferries, Inc arrived in the Virgin Islands late evening on Monday, November 12, 2018. This vessel was built by Steiner Shipyard in Mobile Alabama. However the process to get it to completion was an up hill battle. Nevertheless, we persevered. No victory is ever achieved alone and thus we give thanks. We would like to especially thank the attorneys and staff at Dudley Topper & Feuerzeig, LLP without whom we would have failed multiple times over. Special thanks to Attorney Kurt Petri and Attorney Gregory Hodges whom we spoke to and interacted with almost on a daily basis. We are grateful for their service. In addition, we would like to thank the crew who brought the Grand Vic down, special thanks to Captain Kyle Brego. The M/V Grand Vic is dedicated to the people of the Virgin Islands and as such, we thank you for your patience and understanding. More importantly, we thank the Love City Car Ferries, Inc staff for working tirelessly. We know that the front lines is a tough place to be, especially when you have to encounter angry customers who are tired of waiting in long lines; we appreciate you; you are family. Above all, we thank God for strengthening our faith and our close friends and family for giving us the moral support we needed.
It's been said that encouragement is like oxygen for the soul. There are many ways in which you can encourage people. You can express appreciation for their work. You can thank them for their extra effort. You can help them achieve a goal by resourcing them. You can acknowledge their struggle and offer to help. You can listen to their ideas, concerns, and challenges. You can believe in them and give them the opportunity to lead. You can recognize their strengths and give them a challenging opportunity to realize their potential. You can reward them for achieving great results. Do you have the courage to encourage?
It's all about adding value to people by valuing people. Who do you need to encourage today?
