It’s still so surreal getting to have had the experience of being around when a new Steve Perry album officially comes out! In my lifetime! :D To get to finally physically hold, and listen to what I have been waiting for for almost a decade. SOOOO happy!!! I am so overjoyed!!! Thank you, sir!
My question for the iHeartRadio Steve Perry Q&A this morning was one of the ones that got answered! I honestly did NOT expect that! Woooowww what am exciting day it is! I also recommend watching this stream on Facebook, it’s a lot of fun!
I just still can’t believe the day has finally come! This is one of the greatest days ever, am I right??? I’ve personally been busy screaming about it on my main account LOL and I also shared my personal journey in regards to discovering Steve and how he’s changed my life. If you’d like to read it, it’s on (@kosperry !) So tell me, what’s your favorite track? Mine is still No Erasin’!
🔹(PART 3)🔹...As we're both artists in different ways- he a singer, and I a cartoonist... I feel I have a sort of connection with him.
Steve Perry and Journey will always be known for the music that many find so important in their lives. Their gifts are immeasurable and will forever be engraved in music history. But what I want to say, is that I thank God for bringing him into this world and giving him the voice that he has touched us with.
Journey was more than just a band to me. Steve was more than just a singer. They have been a literal happy place for me for all these years.
Took me to a place I wanted to be. They were there for me during the time I dealt with depression as a teen, and then of course they were there in my happiest times most of all! They brought me close to so many people that became my lifelong friends, whether it had been through Journey/Steve circles or The Seven Stevens, you know who you are!
And although I haven't been an admirer for nearly as long as most people, being 21 years old, I just wanted to say what was on my heart.
So now, he’s officially returned to us! I still can’t believe the day has finally come. His new record is finally here. Honestly I am so proud of him because he did a wonderful job, and all the talented people involved in the making of this album deserves a big round of applause! Steve is a very special person to so many of us and I really hope someday I could tell him, and thank him personally.
Congratulations on Traces, @steveperrymusic ! We’re so glad you’re back!
🔹(PART 2)🔹...I would honestly not be where I am today if it weren’t for this music. That’s for certain! I wouldn’t have the love for vintage stuff that I do now, I wouldn’t have my retro themed art style...I just wouldn’t BE who I am today if I hadn’t discovered Steve. I thank God for bringing him into my life at a young age, because I so desperately needed him.
At age 14, I started a little comic strip that’s now known as “The Seven Stevens”. The characters themselves were each just personified Journey/Steve Perry albums, but portrayed to look like Steve himself during the years of his career matching to the album they were based off of. As seen in the drawing I did here, they’re holding their respective album origins! The series has come into its own since then, but it still thrives off of Steve Perry and Journey inspiration and references in the characters always!
But its because of him that it even exists. Most importantly, I made SO many new friends out of this series and I cherish you all! On to when I was 15, as I continued to share more fanart, I was often picked on for my Steve toons to the point where I wanted to give it up and sorta isolate myself from the community. My art was different, I was a kid, not super good at drawing. Some people didn’t like it, so they’d say hurtful words. As I grew up some more, I became stronger and didn’t let it bother me anymore. My passion for drawing Steve fanart continued!
Since then, many amazing things have happened and opportunities rose for me as I continued to improve my artwork over the years. And it was Don't Stop Believin’ that inspired me to keep going because I couldn't let something so important to me, being the love of Journey and Steve, be taken away. Like the title of one of the new Steve songs says...We’re Still Here! ~🔸(More story in next post!)🔸
So, I have told my personal Steve Perry before... I feel like I want to share it once more, because it’s such an exciting time right now because he is finally back!
So in 2010, when I was 13, I began to really casually get into Journey. I had a few songs in my iPod nano. Course, before 2010, I’ve obviously heard their hits before on the radio and whatnot. Little did I know that in the future Journey/Steve Perry would have a huge impact on my life!
As time went on something switched in my brain and I became obsessed! I wanted to learn all about the band but I was especially fascinated with Steve himself! I remember falling in love with him after I saw him in action in the iconic Journey Live In Houston 1981 concert on YouTube! It was out of sheer curiosity. I wanted to look at actual concert footage and there it was! The spotty shirt and tailcoat.
That was the first time I had EVER seen him perform in video footage. (Because before that, I had only seen what he looked like on the album cover of the Dont Stop Believing single on my ipod) Open Arms and Don’t Stop Believing from that concert were the first clips I ever actually saw of him, that was in April 2011 and that would also be the month I drew my first cartoon of him after seeing those clips. I listened to, and read probably EVERY interview and article I could find, and watched all kinds of clips and footage, etc. Such great memories! That would be the point where my life had began to go differently.
Discovering Steve and Journey got me interested in the 1980's and wanting to live an 80's-ish lifestyle because I loved the music and because Steve was around singing and with Journey in the 80's and I began to wish I was there too. Today, the 80's is still where I feel I belong.
Street Talk, Raised On Radio, and Escape have always been my go-to favorite albums, that I’ve almost worn down my tapes of em! 🔸(Story continued in next post!)🔸
Latest additions to my personal collection! First, 1983 Steve Perry poster I’ve been tryin’ to get my paws on for years and finally snagged one at a way cheaper deal! :) Also a large FTLOSM poster that was used for promotional purposes, since I’m a huge fan of finding promo stuff, I was excited that I got it!
A remake of a drawing I did in 2012 of my toon Steve with real Steveeeee and just some various steve era doodles (not to be confused with the Seven Stevens, even though they are literally the same thing cause SS was based on steve aaayyyy xD ) Also posted this on my steve perry account @perryposting !
