Continuing on with my Health and wellness lifestyle, last week I began my first therapeutic venesection for the effectiveness to reduce excess iron in my body. This was picked up a couple of weeks ago with a simple blood test. .
I wanted to share and make others aware of a common genetic disorder called Iron Overload or Haemochromotosis. Not many people are aware of this condition, so by sharing I hope to bring awareness to others. The most common symptoms felt for me were feeling tired, fatigued and lethargic. To be honest I ignored them and continued on, being a working mum with two kids under four. I didn’t think anything of it, until my GP queried some high iron levels after some routine bloods.
So what is Haemochromotosis? People who have this absorb too much iron from their diet. The excess iron is stored in their body, and overtime leads to iron overload. Organs such as the liver, heart and pancreas are affected and ultimately damaged. Without treatment, Haemochromatosis can cause premature death. The good news is that if this is detected before damage occurs, it can be easily treated and you can go on to enjoy a happy and fulfilling life.
Treatment for this is easy, and the process is just like donating blood with a goal of reducing the extra iron. I’ve chosen to have this done at my local blood bank where my blood can then be used to help save other lives. .
Remember to take good care of yourself always. Listen to your body, even if your super busy, make time. If something’s not right, check with your GP. If you get tired easily, feel lethargic or are experiencing joint/muscle pain don’t ignore it. Maybe you know someone in the family who has this? Too much iron can hurt and be harmful to your organs if left untreated. Request a blood test with your GP to get your iron levels checked. It’s worth finding out now rather than later in life. We only get one body, so listen, nourish and respect the one you have been given ❤️
Drink up, friends! 💧Here are my tips for staying hydrated all day:
1. I drink lukewarm water. I know that might sound crazy but it's hard for me to drink ice cold water. I find I drink more if it's just a little chilly. ❄️
2. Get a reusable straw! I have reusable plastic and stainless steel straws at home because I find I drink more with a straw!
3. Add some flavor! A slice of lemon, a few cucumbers, or a sprig of mint make it easier for me to drink up. Keep a pitcher in the fridge and add a little fruit for flavor! 🍋
4. Enlist a water buddy! Find a co-worker or family member who is also trying to up their water intake and keep each other accountable! 👯♀️
How do you remember to sip water throughout the day?

#continuesaudavel#stayhealthy#boulepaes
Sadly, I haven't retained much of the knowledge from back in the days when I was preparing to go to medical school (which didn't end up happening, obviously), but one thing that stuck out to me was learning about just how important a health cardiovascular system is. So, I’m always looking for ways to keep my heart healthy! ⠀
