Berlin Day 3 - Breakfast at the Berlin Wall.
Spent the morning getting lost (again) on the metro, but made my way to the East Side Gallery to see the murals on the longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall.
From there I visited the Stasi museum to learn about the history of the worlds most effective secret police. It was alarming and fascinating.
After that I made my way across town to the hostel I was meeting my tour group at. Everyone on the tour is fantastic, and we all had a great time at our first group dinner.
Even though I was super tired, I’m SO glad I let @pennyday_ and her mum convince us to try and get into an underground club—I don’t think our visit would have been complete without the hilarity that ensued! And we ended up having a fantastic time at the club.
This trip just keeps getting better and better!

#berlin#stasimuseum
In the heart of the evil - visiting Stasi Museum in Berlin
Though we had only three quarters of an hour we could capture quite some relicts of this time. It’s crucial and fascinating at the same time what people where doing to each other. On the last two pictures you can see the containers where they kept cloth smelling of the persons who where observed. On the last picture a machine which produces steam to open letters. I had to think of the film „Das Leben der anderen“ very often...
Awesome retro cafe in the Stasi Museum. The whole building was the original secret police headquarters during the Cold War. The place was decked out in retro 60s furniture which made the perfect backdrop for soaking up the history of what went down during the Soviet occupation of East Germany. #streetphotography#berlin#35mm#travel#photography#stasimuseum
Went to the Stasi museum today. It's located in the former headquarters of the Stasi. Really fascinating! Coincidentally got talking to someone who grew up in East Berlin during the GDR and he said that he and his mother fled via Hungary but they couldn't tell his father because they didn't know if he was Stasi. This just gives an insight to what it must have been like at the time, unable to trust anyone.
This is perhaps one of the most disturbing photos from the Stasi museum. (Stasi, the evil police that spies on their people using hidden cams, bugging phones, opening letters and getting people to turn on their friends and family)
Propaganda starts from birth and children are taught what to think and behave. So war toys part of their carnival carousels cos it’s way of life. There’s so many wrongs here that I don’t even know where to start. #stasimuseum
The F-21 camera.
Manufactured in Krasnogorsk near Moscow for the #KGB . It was used by the Stasi’s in concealed devices for domestic political surveillance and espionage in former East Germany.
To imagine the role this little device and others like this had in tormenting people for decades.
To imagine devices and methods used by regimes to divide, control and exterminate human lives.
Tip: Visit the museum at 3:00 pm Friday - Sunday and listen to the guided English tour. Spend an hour or more on your own after. Everything displayed is infinitely more potent after that.
—————————————— Last weekend we visited this prison in East Berlin. During wall time, in GDR time there were #stasi officers who were responsible of the goverment’s security. Instead they were observing, listening all the citizens including actors, journalists, opponents. 🤦🏼♀️ There was a restricted area in #hohenschönhausen including this prison too. At that time citizens didn’t know there was such an area. :( You may visit this touching prison with a tour guide. Some of the guides are eyewitnesses of the prison that means they were arrested and had some time in this prison :( Guided tour is 6 EUR’s. If you are interested more, watch ‘The Lives of Other’s’ 🎥 Also we highly recommend you to visit this prison, if you are interested in history and Berlin that time. Berlin du bist so traurig 😰😰
