What a #blessed though #challenging day in the #squattercamp and further afield today and tonight.
Again I am surprised (though I should stop being surprised) at how wonderfully our @fisantyouth leaders (but they are still only kids!) stepped up and led through extreme adversity and challenging circumstances. Yet always #smiling . Always #loving . Always #leading . And always being #wise and #prayerful .
Today’s challenges have ranged from looking after the victims of overnight #shack / house #fires in #fisant , to helping out with @balula_home_based_care_105_611 @balulachildrewn and the amazing @anthony.o.ihejirika ,to rushing a critically ill young child to hospital in the dead of night, to helping restore churches in the squatter camp and in Philipi - to sending goof ball messages to the much loved @jensevdh in 🇩🇪; to dancing in the streets with youth in Philipi (it was so good that even I danced - though not sure you would call it that!!), to delivering clothes and baby goods to new teenage moms in Fisant. Nothing phases these kids. They take it all in their stride, never losing #faith . Never losing #patience . Never losing their #love for #allmankind . And never failing to #lead , #inspire and #teach me mightily.... Thanks @franklingeduld12 , Junior, @tylorbreeze01 and @anam.ngxobo in particular. You guys brighten my every day and give me hope for the great future that this rainbow 🌈 nation has 🇿🇦 Please join me in praying for little Lihle who is critically ill in hospital. All glory to God that he at least is safely being looked after there by good doctors tonight.
Now for 💤💤💤..... Amen
As we drove on the small two lane highway of Cape Town, I see these kids hanging out, on the roof of an old container. I notice their living conditions, the way things look. But I do notice they are carefree and happy at that moment. Some clapping, one pretending the roof is the best set of drums he'll ever own. And as always there is the clown, trying to hitch a ride from the top of his castle. They are freed from the cage of unhappiness we create for them, as that cage only exists for us. In our own mind. It is only that wall that separates them from us. They survive, they grow, they are their own source of happiness. #behappy#befree .
Squatter camp. Had a chance to talk to a fella living there. He was sectioning off his yard so others knew that it was his and not to build there. Very strong, very proud individual who only wanted work to make a wage. They build their shacks out of discarded metal. Some are lucky enough to get new materials. They use old cardboard boxes as insulation. The government tried removing these people two months ago and ended up killing two people who only wanted a place to stay on land that isn’t even being used. Most of them are very nice, very admirable individuals. #southafrica#squattercamp#proudandnoblepeople

Count your blessings
Having a proper house with a roofing that doesn’t leak is a blessing to a lot of people.
Shacks get so so cold in winter and get really hot in summer
I know that because we used to stay in one 20 years back and that ish ain’t nice .
Dnt you ever think that just because you live in a shack you not good enough,Your talents and potential are not linked to how rich you are, and they don't degrade because you are poor. Believe in yourself, you are capable of much more than you may think. You only need to take that first little step and say "I can, I want to ". 🌴🏚 #truelife#squattercamp#truestory
