After 4 months of no back squatting and planning to max out today,

One fear was that I'd injure myself

Another fear was that I'd be way weaker after months of no squat

But the biggest fear was that I'd be stronger @ squat, to the point where deadlift is no longer my specialty

Haven’t rapped up since school about 5 or so weeks ago. Decided to try and push the limits today and go for a PR and a goal i set after my last max. My last max was 435. Squat a went well today, 230kg 1x1 followed by 4s at 190kg. Bench was slower than I'd of liked, but moving reasonably well. 165kg single followed by 4s at 145kg

The calves are easily one of the most stubborn muscle groups, but also just genetically predetermined. Some people just can't grow them no matter how much volume they do.
.
I've been fortunate enough to be blessed with some decent calf genetics WHERE I don't have to hammer them with 50,000lbs of volume each week. .
But If you're not genetically blessed with calves and struggle putting on some size I hope you're not training them with half-assed reps bouncing up and down and not focusing on the actually quality of the reps.
.
If your seeking to get the most out your calf training I would advise for you decreasing the load and focus on putting the calves through their full range of motion and fully resetting at the bottom of the movement.  Stay away from the stretch reflex to get the most out the movement.
.
Give this a try the next time you train calves. Hitting 2x/ week. One day 3-4 sets/ 8-12 reps slightly heavier load then 3-4/12-15 reps the following session.
.
Note: Control the eccentric and pause at peak contraction.

I’m super happy training is going really well and I’m mostly pain free. I’m about 8 weeks out from my meet and it’s looking like I’ll be able to PR all my lifts!⠀

I haven't high bar squatted in almost well over a year due to my old injury and focusing on powerlifting. But after watching lots of @clarencekennedy_ videos i wanted to see how that would go. So today was the last workout of this cycle of training, off on holiday to #Croatia tomorrow for a week and a half 🌞🌞.

A nice way to finish this period off, a little 2.5kg PB on Naked-Knee High-Bar Squat, 157.5kg. I've not seen a great improvement in my quad strength from focusing on front squats this cycle, so I'll probably switch back to these a lot more on the next one. I need to work on balancing out my glute dominance in the lower body movements.

190kg bagged and tagged. Actually felt pretty good, slight pause on the way up but got through on solid form I think. Pre Smolov if I had a pause like that it would have thrown me out and I’d have failed the rep. 13 weeks of squats 4 times a week if anything has definitely drilled in solid form. .
Next program starts Monday, Smolov Jr Bench coming up. .

FACE-PULLS‼️

Focus: Rear Deltoids .
If your goal is to primarily target the upper back ( traps etc ) then by all means do the DON'T 👌🏽.
.
However, if your focus is to effectively target the rear deltoids then ideally you'd like to try to avoid elevating and retracting your scapula during the concentric part of the movement.
.
Before executing the movement, bring down the cable pulley to about face height, grip the rope attachment as shown above, set-up with your feet about shoulder width apart and w/ a slight hip-hinge.
.
From here, depress/protract your scapula, then proceed by driving back BACK & OUT with your elbows until they reach about 90 degrees slowly releasing it back to the starting position.
.
This will allow you to maintain tension throughout the entirety of the movement and get the most bang for your buck.
.
Note: Keep your head in a neutral position and focus on that mind to muscle connection to level 9000 engagement.

Planned a tiny little Deload so I could go hard as fuck before having a few extra days out of the gym. 425 for a dub, with a legit pause. Deadlifts sucked ass afterward but the squats felt so damn strong. 450 can’t be far at all. Then 50 more lbs till I’m a grown up! So here are some exercises I had her do with the hip circle band to help her build the strength and stability she needs to keep those knees from caving 💪

BRAH’S! I hit a 325lb parallel squat today while in a caloric deficit (I’m currently cutting body fat right now) it’s been 7-8 weeks and have lost 7lbs and somehow my squat strength went up. New low weigh in today at 174lbs flat. I didn’t hit the depth on squats like I wanted to so I stopped at 90 degrees because I felt like I was gonna get stuck in the hole, it was also my third time trying this PR😂 next time I’ll try a deep squat with this and try to see if I’ll get out of the hole

225 squat for a cheeky single 187.5kg for 5x5 first and worst set shown 😂. Bench was a bit hit and miss today 160kg for a single (dancing feet) 145 for 5x5 as shown here, a couple sets had to be cut down to sets of 4.
