📝 @bespokeaficionado The 4 Cs of Sartorial Quality. Cloth – Some name drop the cloth mills they use in their garments in order to gain credibility by association. Hate to rain on your parade, but a Super 220 used to machine tailor a fused canvas cookie cutter Tom Ford wannabe copycat suit is a waste of fabric. Period. Full stop. The cloth is where it all starts, but the actual craftsmanship involved in the fabrication of a given garment is where it ends. Don’t get carried away and intimidated by the fabric selection offered at certain “bespoke” outfits – the cloth, as amazing as it may be, comes second to craftsmanship. You can have a garment commissioned in the same exact fabric from an established tailoring house and a fly-by-night Insta-famous “brand” that will look worlds apart. A vibrant, light and radiating suit on one hand and a dull, stiff and uniform looking waste of cloth on the other. Nothing beats traditional artisan handcrafted know-how. Think of this in terms of the sheet metal being used to machine-stamp a wrapper for a washing-machine engine FIAT on one hand, and the same sheet metal hand pressed and molded to envelop a hand-built drivable art Ferrari.
