When we start feeling discomfort in the lower back area, the first thing that comes up on our mind is to immobilize the back as much as possible and avoid any type of movement. Wrong!!

❗️This does not mean that you should continue doing exercises wrong if that's what caused it but rather that you should do exercises that might help you get rid of it instead of immobilizing yourself. -
Anyway, the chemical structure of our discs is about 85% water and it's contained mainly in the central core or "nucleus". Within this fluid there are the specialized cells called 'chondrocytes', that manufacture the 'lubricant' that allows our joints to move freely. Chondrocytes are living cells and like all the others, require regular nourishment while getting themseves rid of waste products.

Unlike the majority of other cells, however, they can't receive nourishment from the blood supply because of the extreme pressures under which they operate. They use instead an unique system of movement that carefully draws oxygen in, while pushing out waste products.

The outer walls of the disc and cartilage end plate act as a sort of selective semi-permeable membrane. This allows water and chemicals to pass through, including those chemicals necessary for your chondrocytes to function. At the same time waste products of this process pass out.
At the center of the disc the concentration of essential nutrients is only just great enough to maintain your chondrocytes in reasonable health and the waste disposal action is only just coping. Without adequate diffusion (the process through which discs get nourished), assisted by movement, the chondrocytes can easily become starved and "shrink".

1. Stop aggravating activity
2. Feet up 
3. Ice down the back for 15 min with an ice pack, make sure to put something in between the skin and the ice to prevent freezer burn
4. Email jogachiropractic@gmail.com for an appointment and additional home remedies

Mild back strain can often be treated at home. However, you should contact a #chiropractor if you have a back injury that causes any of these symptoms:
1. Severe pain or swelling
2. Pain that makes it impossible to move or walk more than a few steps

A little glimpse of my stay in the hospital💗🏥 •

I only had 4 days to prepare for this surgery. The surgery was about 12 hours (being the longest surgery I’ve ever had) but the surgery didn’t actually start until 2 hours after being in the operation room. The doctors usually perform a test where they stimulate your muscles but my muscles didn’t respond, knowing that this surgery could  either make me loose my ability to walk or paralyze my spine, the doctors had no idea what to do and if they should still operate or not. I lost 450mg of blood and ended up getting a blood transfusion, I also ran a temperature of 102 degrees. But now I’m home and feeling amazing. Even though this experience was really stressful and difficult, I knew god was with me every step of the way.💕🙌🏾

6 weeks ago Jake came to us with back pain, referring into his leg, which he couldn’t straighten, and his surgeon wanting to perform a further operation on his back (a revision). A different surgeon suggested he try an alternative route.

Here is Jake 6 weeks later, pain free and cleaning a 17.5kg dumbbell 💪. Jake thought he may never be fully recovered....he is looking forward to going snowboarding with his family next year 🙌.

6 weeks ago Jake came to us with back pain, referring into his leg, which he couldn’t straighten, and his surgeon wanting to perform a further operation on his back (a revision). A different surgeon suggested he try an alternative route.

Here is Jake 6 weeks later, pain free and cleaning a 17.5kg dumbbell 💪. Jake thought he may never be fully recovered....he is looking forward to going snowboarding with his family next year 🙌.

A dor lombar nem sempre vem de uma atividade atlética. Muitas vezes ela vem de uma postura anormal e compensatória, como no caso dessa eguinha do vídeo.  Como ela possui feridas profundas nos dois membros pélvicos, acaba adotando uma postura antiálgica (cifose Toracolombar), além de ter passado boa parte dos dias deitada logo após o acidente. Podemos ver que ela tem uma intensa reação dolorosa tanto na palpação do m. Longuíssimo dorsal quanto no teste de extensão lombossacra. No entanto é altamente improvável que possua alguma lesão osteoarticular e a dor certamente vem da musculatura e fascias. No segundo vídeo mostro o exame após aplicação de uma bandagem elástica (Solange e Luiz podem puxar a minha orelha se estiver errada, pois não domino totalmente a técnica 😬). Apesar da dor não ter cessado 100%, ela se mostra muito mais confortável com os exames e até está com uma postura melhor, reforçando a tese da dor muscular/fascial. Fiquem atentos à coluna dos pacientes que adotam posturas antiálgicas, usam cintas abdominais por longos períodos e/ou ficam deitados por períodos prolongados... eles com certeza agradecem!

👨🏼‍⚕️ Your T spine starts from the bottom of your spine (T1) and goes all the way up to the top(12). .

👌🏻 It’s so vital in terms of function and performance as your central nervous is based down your spine and there’s so many origins and insertions in terms of muscles fibres attached to the spine. .

👀 I’ve posted videos before of how horizontal rows can help pull back your scapula back and help improve your spine health and posture. .

💪🏻 If you swipe left ⬅️ you’ll see in the viedo activation drills I tend to do before I do any upper body session(push or pull). The exercise in the video is call a Trap 3 Raise. .

🏋🏼‍♂️ I’ll generally do two sets.  The first being weighted with a two second isomeric in the top position for eight reps and then straight into body weight again for eight reps with a  two second hold and then on the last rep I’ll hold the top position for anything from five to ten seconds. .

👍🏻 Scapula retractions also work well if you’re struggling to get to grips with trap 3 raises.

🚑 I’ve always said you never appreciate your body until you injure it and If you have any injuries with your back or spine the rehab process can be very long and monotonous....

SEEKING ADVICE! 
My mother ( 69 yrs. old ) has had two knee replacements surgeries, but not together. She waited quite a bit a time between the time of injury and getting the surgery. It is because of this that she compensated a lot and caused the one “good leg” to become deformed, which pushed her to get surgery on that knee. Sadly, not before doing quite a bit of damage. 
She now has L3 -L4 symmetric disc bulge w/ small central protrusion that causes mild sac stenosis. Although, the majority of her pain she says is around her SI joint where she has sacroiliac joint degeneration. The knee is doing great, but now the low back and SI pain is what is slowing progress.

While she is quite overweight, and I am trying to work on her eating and exercise habits, I would love to know what I can do/give her to work on in the meantime. Would just love to hear from anyone who has had experience with clients like this. .

Mobility Monday: Ansteuerung der Wirbelsäule I

Unsere Wirbelsäule besteht aus 24 Wirbelkörpern, die über die Bandscheiben gelenkig (genau genommen sind das unechte Gelenke aka Synarthrosen 🤓) miteinander verbunden sind.
Jedes dieser "Gelenke" besitzt die Fähigkeit sich leicht zu beugen und zu strecken.

Verlieren wir durch mangelnde Nutzung die Ansteuerung über einen Teil dieser "Gelenke" (häufig in der Brustwirbelsäule), müssen die anderen das kompensieren (häufig Hals- und Lendenwirbelsäule) und mehr Arbeit leisten. Es kommt zu Überlastungen (nicht umsonst kommen die meisten Bandscheibenvorfälle in der LWS vor). Zeit, uns wieder eine Wirbelsäule zu bauen. Das Werkzeug: spinal waves! 🛠

Ausführung:
Stell dich 5 bis 10 cm vor eine Wand. Nacheinander berührst du diese mit Stirn - Nase - Kinn - Brustbein - unterstem Rand des Brustkorbs - Bauch - Becken - Knie.
Fühlt sich am Anfang evtl. an wie ein Besenstil, mit etwas üben wird daraus aber eine Welle.
Sobald du mit dem Bewegungsmuster vertraut bist, kannst du es auch mal frei versuchen. 👌

Does your lower back hurt when #squatting? 🏋️‍♂️The overhead squat is amazing for strengthening the back and shoulders, but it requires a lot more mobility than a front or back squat. The point of this video is to show you that you must keep the lower back active at the bottom of a squat. .

If your back hurts when you squat AND you have a butt-wink at the bottom of a squat (rounding the lower back), that is a pretty good indication that you are not keeping the lower back and glutes active at the bottom. Sometimes a butt-wink can be very small and unnoticeable… record yourself from the back and side to see if your lower back moves at all during your squat.

People often try to squat “ass to grass,” but in doing so, they round their lower back, putting the force of the squat directly into the lumbar spine (lower back) rather than keeping the force distributed evenly through the spine and hips. .

Take note of my depth when I have my lower back rounded vs. when I have my lower back and glutes active. Do you see how I do not actually sit as low in the squat when I keep everything active? Don’t worry about getting as deep as you possibly can, only squat as low as you can while maintaining a neutral curve of the spine and glutes active. .

In an unweighted or very light weight squat, it is usually fine to butt wink and sit in a completely relaxed squat. When you add weight though, you will want to stay active!
