If only it were that easy, but I must say, IEPs get sooooooo much easier the more you do (& the more data & communication you have going into it).
Head to my blog for some easy tips on how to transform your IEPs from stressful to stress-less!
When I’m not working out, I’m busy trying to shape the minds of the youths. And in special education, I’m also trying to identify the gaps in knowledges and filling those. ~
I won’t go on a huge rant. But teaching is damn hard. These empty chairs have 14 amazing & wonderful students who come through and sit in them throughout the day. And while I am the teacher, there are days when I feel like my students teach me more than I teach them. That’s pretty damn cool. ~
When I went into teaching, I didn’t expect to love my students as much as I do. I didn’t expect to carry their burdens with me as I leave the classroom at the end of the day. I didn’t expect to have sleepless nights due to worries of how to reach them. I didn’t expect to laugh as often as I do. But I literally can’t imagine doing anything different. So incredibly thankful for my amazing students
Day 10 of #decemberteacherphotochallenge ~ Whiteboard! The only white board that I use regularly in my room is this little one that I keep by my desk! I keep the things I need to do on it and the date I need it done by!
This is the start of our Annual Spreading Christmas Cheer Project where my class partners with a local nursing home to spread holiday cheer. •
Step 1/4: create beautifully hand crafted ornaments (with the STAR Team’s help) to share with the residents on our visit.
After winter break, I’m pulling out one of my favorite writing centers - Story Puzzles Endless Writing Center! Students pull out a setting and a character card to use for their journal story. Some kids like to make sure the setting and characters match l since we discuss that during our reading mini-lessons, but I also allow the kids to have fun and make up silly stories, too! :) A mermaid on a farm, a princess who goes camping...they have so much fun! Check it out in my shop by clicking the link in my profile or going to http://bit.ly/storypuzzlescenter
I remember when I first started thinking of becoming a coach I immediately thought of all the reasons I shouldn’t do it! .
✖️I don’t have a ton of friends.
✖️I deal with anxiety and change can escalate it.
✖️I didn’t have friends and family that I could “sell” to.
✖️I’m not a salesperson
✖️I had less than 100 friends on facebook and on Instagram I followed my favorite celebrities.
But I had been following other coaches for so long that I knew I needed to give it a try. I figured what’s the worse that can happen. I continue to work on my own health and fitness journey. Not a bad problem to have. .
Well it turns out that onces I pushed passed all my excuses and limiting beliefs in myself, I found something truly beautiful. I found a tribe of women who empower each other, support each other, and hold each other accountable when we need it. I found an opporutnity to help my family financially. An opportunity To help us pay off studen loans, take vacations, and provide a life where we are free of money stresses. I found confidence in myself. I’ve not only worked on my physical health but my mental health. I work everyday to make myself the best I can be for my kids, husband, family, and friends. I fill my cup so I can then fill others. .
Am I exactly where I want to be yet? No! Will I get there? HELL YA! I’m so glad I ignored all those negative limiting beliefs I heard when I thought about starting. All I’ve gained has been so worth it! My only regret is that it took me so long to tell the negative noise to SHUT UP! 😂

One of my favorite doors I’ve decorated! 🎄🎅🏼❄️ And for all my super organized teachers out there, there’s no secret message hidden in the letters. When you stay late to finish this and realize you’re almost out of letters, you use what you have and call it a day 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️😭

Must be 24 years old 😘
Our Make Yourself Proud board is looking very random this week. 😂😍 From art projects to iReady tracking charts to random printables they did during specials, I love seeing what my kids are proud of! Some kids choose to switch out their work every week, some are super strategic and meticulous about what they post, and some would switch it hourly if they could. 😂 I love hearing what they share when they post something to the board and I ask them, “Why are you proud?” 💜 Do you have a student work board in your room? How do you use it?
Is it snowing where you are??! Use these winter-themed Read-Trace-Write-Glue Sentences to celebrate the season! ☃️

The SWEETEST thing happened to me today!! My previous students wrote me letters!! I balled happy tears!! 😭 My whole heart is beaming with love and joy! These kids were everything to me and leaving my classroom to be a SAHM was the such a hard decision! These letters have given me comfort in my choice, but also remind me how much I miss seeing their faces everyday. I am planning a visit to go see them in the start of 2019!! -
What brought you joy today?! 💞

This is what it looks like in my classroom.
I remember two summers ago, my co-teacher (at the time) and I agreed we wanted to bring some options into our inclusion setting. We had really great ideas and mapped out how to start implementing it in small steps, to see how the kids would respond.
Fast forward to finally getting a classroom of my own and I decided this year I would go full force and embrace flexible seating to the fullest, but doing so in a way that was resourceful and cost efficient.
Every item in my room that I brought in myself was either: off fb marketplace (for cheap), gotten at yard sales/garage sales/flea markets, donated by very kind individuals, or even found on the side of the road.
You don’t have to go broke trying to include #flexibleseating options in your classroom. I have never spent more than $10 or so on any chair in my classroom - not to mention I was given one for free from a very kind soul just recently. It’s about knowing how much items cost new and how to go about asking the right way when trying to get the best deal. You also need to have a great deal of patience as well. You may not have the exact items you want in a day, a week, or even a month - but eventually everything turns up.
Did this happen overnight? Of course not! I had no idea my first year what exactly I wanted. Did I have a plan? YES! That idea in my mind has evolved over the past few years though. You find out what works and what can be improved and as a result...changes are made. Am I ever content with my room? Yes, but I still am on the hunt for how to improve it.
Incorporating these seating options has made some of my quiet students speak up who might otherwise not advocate for themselves, it has made some of my most challenging students see they can make better choices based on where they work best, and has let students feel safe enough to know they can make mistakes in order to improve. While no day is perfect, I can honestly say this has helped aid in respect amongst students, they share with one another without arguing, and they take pride in the space that they learn in daily. #itsallaboutbalance
We visited Germany on Monday and today we made our craft! I am obsessed with how creative this student got with decorating her gingerbread man 👉 she used two gum drop stickers to create bows. I would have NEVER thought to do that myself! Annnnd just like that, I am reminded that sometimes, the best activities are those where there is no pressure. Just a gingerbread man, some glitter, glue and some candy stickers and their creativity shines. 😍 Next stop, Israel! 🇮🇱

I just can't get enough of these visual schedules! They have made everything easier for both my staff and my students with preparing for the day, getting through the day, transitions, and resetting the schedule for the next day! All of my students can use these and that in itself is amazing! Love what you are seeing? My new favorite book/tool and our social skills craft today. I love to incorporate art into our social skills plans and the kids love it too! And this book is amazing. One side has the emotions and the other has strategies to choose from for each emotion. It’s such a neat tool and of course our kids love the monster theme.
Guess what difficulty we have been working on?
No matter what grade, there is always at least one student that needs help understanding what focus means.
I ❤️ using the give me five because I can easily point to eyes, ears, brain, etc when I forget my visuals or I am across the room.
What do you like to do to help kids focus?
My next steps after teaching this lesson are: timers, headphones, fans (for white noise), limit visual distractions...
