Haven't practiced handstand walks in a bit, but they were going well today. Trying to one day be awesome like @j__rexx 😉 Feeling good about this weeks training. I'm trying to make an extra effort to train early when I can and train smarter. Also, being consistent with my accessory work and training my weaknesses. I may yet survive the @spartan Ultra in November. Lol. .

Busy Day at Work—but finally got my post in for #medalmonday! #nashvillespartan was FUNNNNN & HOTTTTT! One more race & this gurl has herself a completed new goal....2XTrifecta! Almost there!!!! Thank you @jillgriffiths_ for being an amazing nutritionist & SpartanBA—I learn a lot from you! I still fail too many obstacles BUT I have burpee integrity & I am making some improvements in even the obstacles I slip from. This time—I made it the farthest I ever have on Twister & that was exciting! Also, I did not give up when my body was angry at that CRAZY incline w the bucket carry! I kept my head in the process and that is all I ever ask of myself. Well that, and, to cheer on others during & after my race. I cried as I watched a team of 20 women climb the last obstacle & link arms for the fire jump. Their presence, their finish, meant a lot to watch & I couldn’t help but cry as they cried. I got to tune up for @spartanrace Lake Tahoe with coaches @josephbautistasgx and @ace16876. Although my strength is down due to lingering shoulder discomfort, I got to sit in and listen to technical strategies on how to approach obstacles (Coach Joseph will be the first to tell you he likes to talk. 😉) and practice the high-failure rate Multi-Rig and Spear Throw.  Looking forward to a nice hike on Saturday with a 30-35 minor inconveniences along the way (13.5 miles + 4200’ elevation gain). My goal for next year is a regional championship race. Ultimate goal is world championship. I set these goals now so I hold myself accountable for the work it will require to get here. I have jumped over 150 places since my 3 races in elite division. Now it’s time to eat, sleep, breathe spartan. My training begins tomorrow for my goals. Keep looking up.

It's in times like this that you are going to want to put your head down. Some will put their heads down and stop. Some will put their heads down to try to ignore what's around them as they keep going. To try to withdraw within themselves. But not you.

You're going to keep your head up. Keep your eyes fixed on that next step, that next obstacle, that next goal. No matter how much it hurts and how tired you are, keep looking forward and keep that head held high.

That's how I got through my Spartan Super yesterday, despite my body being in no state to go through an endurance event. Cramps at every obstacle. Legs locking up while walking up or down hills. Back tightening with the simplest movements. I just stayed focused on the next objective. Now I'm one step closer to my 2018 #SpartanTrifecta. Because I kept looking up. Part 3 of my crazy strength workout from last week. I tried a lot of new variations on basic pull and push movements during my session, and these side to side pull-ups were no exception. I’ll work on holding higher and pulling straighter as I progress, but I was just happy these happened at all for a first attempt! Here’s my tip for trying these—make lots of unflattering faces! Hoping it’s a little #motivation on this Monday, nerds!

When I first started, I super intimidated by trying out a squat with free weights. Like "Am I going to fall over?", "Am I going to injure myself?" If you use the wrong form, yes, you can. However, with the right form, it's not as hard as you think! Start with lighter weights until you perfect 👌 that form. .
.
My tips:
1. Sit back on your heels.
2. Take a deep breath before your squat and try to hold it to the bottom of your squat.
3. Make your hands are even on both sides of the bar. 
4. Don't worry if your knees go over your toes. Mine do. 
5. Make sure your knees point out a little bit. Don't let those knees pop in! It can seriously injure your knees. Put a hip circle above your knees to ensure you knees stay out. 
6. Push your shoulders back and squat straight down, don't lean forward or you could lose your balance. NOT GOOD. 
7. Practice! It makes perfect. .

Woke up and got a good workout in at the gym.  Was back and chest day for me today so I’m sore.  I have noticed I’m getting less sore from my normal workout so I need to test my limits again.  Have to see how far I can go to get back to the soreness. It may sound weird that I want to be more sore but if you don’t understand why then you won’t understand if I explained it. I’d planned to get up early and run before  work tomorrow but I decided a lateish run tonight was a better idea. I need the sleep, I’m pretty tired at the mo.

This was my second run since Berlin and I turned it up a little to see where I’m at. It felt pretty good but I know I’m not 100% yet and I think I’ll take a day or two to rest now. ‘Rest is best’ 😁

#mondaymotivation • 🏆 tis was a good Monday, PR fest at Mt. Monadnock! Perfect weather and day with empty trails to blaze through it as fast as I could! Last time I did in 1hr 15ish mins while take a little break at the summit and stopping my watch.. this time I didn’t stop the watch, found someone to quickly snap a photo because PRIORITIES 😅 (that also costed me the 7th spot cause could of been 57mins), but pretty stoked with 58mins and getting the top 10!  Left knee felt pretty tight the whole way through it but didn’t stop me from cruising down! Ascent to the summit in 33 mins with heart pumping , feeling alive, enjoying the fatigue of running! #runnersofinstagram #mtmonadnock #newhampshire #altrarunning #hoinvincible3 @humanoctane @altrarunning

This is a huge one for me, hitting the 3 month mark. Something I never would have thought possible had I not found One Year No Beer. Comparing these photos now gives me great joy and confidence. I was feeling really lost in all aspects of my life, drinking too much too often to mask my feelings and give me false confidence. Having had depression, anxiety and panic attacks, being unfulfilled in my daily work and generally just existing not really living to the fullest I lacked the energy and the self esteem to do anything about it

OYNB gave me the tools to begin to save my life which has so much power. It really is magic -
I’m now feeling confident in myself again, having really embraced the challenge aspect of this and pushing myself physically to work towards the two Spartan races I have next weekend, the Beast and the Sprint. It will be the biggest physical challenge of my life so far and am buzzing to get there

This journey has constantly surprised me. It’s led me to become vegan and to be more compassionate to myself, the food I consume and the world around me
