I loved the @frugalfriendspodcast with @joshua_becker on minimalism! They discussed something along the lines of (and I'm paraphrasing here) "getting rid of your things isn't the goal...but getting rid of your things helps you reach your goals", which really stuck out to me! ⠀
I don't consider myself a hardcore minimalist by any means but I do have a growing interest in downsizing my stuff and being more purposeful and intentional with the things I bring back into my home. ⠀
Every time I declutter an area I feel an increased feeling of peace and a bit less anxious. My end game is more time with my family, less time cleaning and maintaining our house and less money wasted on buying things we don't need!⠀
I've been using the Konmari method's criteria of whether an item sparks joy to decide whether to purchase or keep something. Joshua Becker added to that to decide whether an item actually contributes to your purpose, which I found interesting!⠀
Do you consider yourself to be a minimalist? Hardcore or just testing the waters?!?⠀
Mark your calendars! @mariekondo’s @netflix show premieres January 1st. I am incredibly excited for the show and hope it will inspire more people to experience the life-changing magic of tidying up! I am so grateful to do this for a living as a certified KonMari consultant. People often wonder what we do and in the show you’ll get to see my mentor and the one and only Marie Kondo (🙌) help families get organized the KonMari way. I know what I’ll be doing on January 1 📺🤓 who wants to join me? should we plan a YYC watch party?

Holiday Peace!!! Got this baby in the diffuser because this time of the year is CRAY!!!
We’ve had event after event, rogue tummy bugs, only 10% of Christmas shopping done, not to mention making teachers gifts and writing Christmas cards like a boss 💁♀️
My to do list is anxiety inducing and this blend smells like Christmas trees and is grounding AF!
Tip: make a spritzer and spritz the tree, clay ornaments, garlands and intense family settings 😘
For this last month of this cray cray year, it’s all about heart openers.
Come open your heart, keep your chin up, roll your shoulders back, with me.
Meet up at
CPY BPV Tuesdays at 1:30 for C1.5 power flow,
And Tuesdays 4pm for Sculpt.
Friday’s PSU at noon, intermediate vinyasa during Winter Break.
I am so proud of these human beings! 🤩 Thank you for trusting the process and being open to grow in all directions. I am humbled to be a witness to your “...universe unfolding as it should!” 🙏❤️ #sparkjoy#cpyjoblove#cpypowerballard#desiderata
Christmas Village is up! A nearly 70 year tradition in my family started by Grandma Charlotte and handed down; some of the pieces are ancient.
This year's was extra special because my sweet love helped me build the village. And he was SO into it 😂💖🎄
Cooking is new to me. I’m cooking more now that we have a functional and lovely new kitchen (yay!) and really because my chef of a husband is working later these days (booooo). I love seeing these utensils as tools that help me nourish my family. A cluttered drawer would suck any fun right out of it for me. #lessismore
Thought I’d make an official post about my #projectpan and how it’s felt/been going.
As you know I’m entering a #lowspendyear and a three month #nospendchallenge
I think the next step in my minimalist journey is to learnt to avoid the tic of shopping and buying things. One area of my home that isn’t quite minimal is beauty/makeup, household consumables(candles, essential oils).
Project pan is to help combat the trend of buying and buying and using what you already own. The makeup industry will never stop pumping out products. Things are starting to look copy and pasted and the formulas don’t need to be up to par because we will buy irregardless because of trends, brands, packaging. Pretty much every palette on the market can be made in similar shades in my personal collection.
I’m commuting to using up, and using products in my collection. I want to use 10 makeup products up from now until next year-lipsticks, shadows, highlights, etc. use them!
Project pan has felt weirdly luxurious-giving myself permission to use up special bath products, makeup more frequently, candles to make my home smell lovely. Putting on a little face more often is also improving my general outlook on myself and making me feel more positive and put together-I stay home with evander most days or just run out to go to the grocery store but a little makeup has made every day feel a bit more personalized and special-that’s been an interesting perk! I’m also discovering things I really like, like what looks good specifically on me-not just anything. It’s a fun experience-and I’m sure I’ll discover more about my tastes as I use up and declutter some of my makeup this year.
I’m making good progress on several products and have panned several candles, and body products already-that I will avoid buying in excess again. .
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted!! But check this out!
I couldn’t bear the thought of any of my kiddos going hungry over the two week holiday break.. I saw what we had collected and just knew we needed more help. So I did something simple, something that only took maybe 3 minutes of my day.. I posted on Facebook to gather donations so I could shopping for our families and feed them for the holidays. And look what was accomplished!!! And that’s only the first cart!! You can make a difference! #sparkjoy this holiday season! Give what you can because even a little goes a long way! My $15 pledge raised $250 in 12 hours! Something so small can become so big!! #holidayjoy#gyto#LMSVheart#noacttoosmall 🙏 #attitudeofgratitude 💫
What’s Sparking Joy for you? ✨💓✨💓✨💓 After decluttering and organizing closets following The KonMari Method, my clothes are in order and so easy to find! 😄I love how neat and tidy it looks! 👍👍👍There is a special way to fold clothes and make them all “standing”. It actually takes a little longer, but it is kind of a meditative process to discover more about myself 😊
When joy is the anchor, I confront one by one, and my heart tell me whether I feel spark joy toward each one of them. I also start to realize as I go through the process what items I want to surround myself with and it brings me to think what my happiness really is. 💕
I am now surrounded with things that spark joy to me, all things that I like and love. 😍😍😍I feel the joyflow in my space and it feels so comfortable and so light! 😃✨💕I am feeling so appreciated to all the things that I keep and use. For those that no longer feel the spark joy, i thank them and letting them go~ 💕
The tidying process also bring my awareness in making conciouse choice to choose joyful things in life and focusing on things that matter the most to me. What we pay attention to will create. Vibration of joy attract more joy to our life!
What do you choose to spark joy in your daily life?
Create your 2019 following what sparking joy to you!
I work with my son right before his birthdays and holidays to declutter. Since last year he's really been able to actively participate, making his own choices and using his own reasoning. I used a mix of @konmari.co and talking about the importance of donating and recycling. He actually did even better than I would have expected this time, decluttering ~121 items. Plenty of room for new items and more space to grow afterwards.
If you are having trouble choosing gifts for the remaining folks on your list, it could be because they already have everything they need and want! It’s hard to find unique, material gifts that convey our love for our friends and family. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why not try giving an experiential gift instead? Often we dismiss these as gifts because they are intangible, but it can be the most enjoyable present to receive! There are so many possibilities to consider when you give an experience and I find it easier to tailor it to a person’s individual interests.
One of my favorite experiential gifts was a visit to the float tank with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Not only was it a fun outing but it is a memory that I will always cherish. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Maybe you have a loved one that is overwhelmed and could use some help this season. Offering to clean or cook for them is an incredibly compassionate and heartfelt gift that would probably be appreciated more than a material item.
I offer gift cards for those who want to invest in a new joy in the new year. It is a great gift for yourself or someone desiring that KonMari magic. Tidying is a gift that keeps on giving in all areas of your life. ⠀
Whatever you decide to give, what matters most is that it comes from your heart. And remember, your presence is more important than the present. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here I am, with some incredible women on my friend’s wedding day. She celebrated her birthday yesterday!
See how she plays by her own rules?
Rocking that black designer dress and that Bouquet sans flowers.
The perfect example to choose what makes YOU happy, not what you think will make others happy. Question why things are the way they are. Is it what you want or just what everyone else is doing.
There’s no flowers here, no white dress, but I still see a beautiful bride with some of her best friends.
It’s easy to say be yourself, but actually doing the work to knowing who that truly is and being brave enough to share it with the world can be much harder.
So, I know this request isn’t an easy one. It’s going to push you out of your comfort zone... but if you let yourself stay there, in that awkward space just enough it will become your new comfort zone.
Today, reflect on where you are in your life right now. What things are you doing because you feel the need to, not because you want to. What are you keeping out of guilt or fear of judgement?
Challenge yourself to face those fears and let go of anything that isn’t useful or doesn’t spark joy.
whether or not that’s an old T-shirt, poor relationship or... a white dress and flowers.
These 3 ladies beside me, on the left side of this picture, have been beside me through it all.
Friendships since childhood that not only last but get stronger with time are invaluable and I’m so grateful.
I wouldn’t let this friendship go, I’ll do everything in my power to invest the time and love to nurture it till the very end, because these ladies spark joy in every sense of the phrase ✨⚡️✨ #friends#tilltheendoftime#sparkjoy
The evidence of growth becomes tangible in retrospect.
Before I became a mom, I thought I was super busy and I didn’t have the time for anything else or anyone else. But now that I’m a mom, I look back and realize that I had SO MUCH free time before. hahaha kidding aside, I did not know my own capacity until I got to expand it. This realization gives me confidence that I can still learn and still grow, even if I sometimes feel like my time or even brain space are not enough. I am learning everyday that while I must grow, I must also rest. And these are not at odds with each other. Caring for myself does not mean that I avoid uncomfortable growth opportunities. It just means that WHILE going through uncomfortable growth opportunities, I must take the time to pause, rest, and put things in perspective. Growth happens in the silent moments too.
Sunday musings brought to you by wine and cheese (Eden - I love it, don’t judge haha), mindless #Pinterest browsing that turned into mindful reflection (as per usual), and @morganharpernichols
Less clutter, more organization. Less stress, more time. Less discontent, more intention. There's so much to gain from decluttering. Decluttering has personally helped me with respect to downtime, cash flow, and useable space.
Downtime: feeling relaxed at your home at the end of a busy day
Cash flow: know where everything is, avoiding the need to buy duplicates of lost items
Useable space: using rooms for their intended purpose
Regain control of your things, your day, your life.
My husband has been eyeing this copper bottle for a looooong time, but they're so expensive in KL, so he was holding out until he found one at the right price! We finally saw this beauty at an Indian market in Chennai at an affordable price and he decided to get it :) One zero waste step further for him. Woo-hoo!
¿Algo original?✨
With each season Mother Nature brings with her glorious treats to decorate our homes. At this time of year, however, it’s all about fresh greenery, dried blooms, and berries from the hedgerows. We adore bringing the outdoors inside.
On your next countryside walk, bring the secateurs with you and let your imaginations run wild.
Sorted Sunday! Up since 5.20 with our son. He wants nothing more than to eat grapes and watch Peppa Pig so I’ve unpacked yesterday’s TK Maxx haul, sorted the mail into ‘keep’ and ‘recycle’, folded some laundry and programmed the washing machine to come on at a reasonable hour. Can I nap now?!
Our #konmari kids session is DONE! 3 years worth of toys tidied in 2 hours. We decided to include the girls (3 y.o. and 5 y.o.) because we felt they are old enough to decide what brings them joy. PLUS, Rory would totally notice if I threw out her LOL doll outfits or something. We asked them what toys they still really cared about (LOL dolls, Hatchimals, Shopkins, Legos, arts and crafts) and “discarded” everything else. We let them say “goodbye” to all the toys that has brought them joy through the years. It was a nice family event! Honestly, I got a little sad because they discarded all their Disney Princess toys: Rory said “bye” to all her Princess clip dolls! (I was the one having a hard time letting go). A nice, fresh start to 2019: to allow room for all the love (a.k.a. toys) the holidays and birthdays will bring. .
