It’s been a BUSY last few weeks in our programs, but our Arts Mentorship Program has had some great highlights, from pro #ComicBook#artists , @bbreed72 & @javierloscomex, visiting with our illustration students, to peer mentoring & collaborations happening between our adult & youth participants. There’s always something new being created with us!

Next Sunday at noon let’s honor the unique personalities of our ancestors and deceased family members by assembling alters/offerings in @mercadolapaloma. Every alter will include the four elements of nature: wind, water, fire and earth. #Esperanza4SouthLA
As a teacher, Corita challenged her students to engage with the world around them, and would take them on field trips into the Los Angeles community. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀
One of the field trips that Corita organized for her students was to Simon Rodia’s Watts Towers (@wattstowerscac) in South LA. Some of her screenprints from 1959 such as ‘be of love (a little more careful)’ seen here, clearly echo the spiraling spires of Watts Towers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
