(Continuing Part II of “Meditation & Lotus Flowers Guiding My Path” )
2 of my images were selected for their documentary #LA92 , along with the #movieposter .
At the same time, I was selected to be the lead #photographer in an art exhibition in #SouthLA promoted by #RussellSimmons , which ended being touted the most powerful exhibit on the #LAUprising . Then … I was interviewed for a radio segment…then I’m asked to join roundtable talk on another radio show. I got a write up in #LAWeekly and then…journalist Messiah Rhodes calls to writes a story about me for VICE.com. Whew! Last year was crazy—and it all happened through Twitter & the power of intention.
Crazy as it sounds, this year is even more wild: I am about to make a major announcement on a deal that will make waves. The day the meeting for this deal took place is the same night I first saw these beautiful Lotus flowers, 5 years ago to the day, asking for a blessing to become a show of #perseverance , #determination and right out aggressiveness to reach my #goals .
The Universe gave me what I needed, not what I wished for. I’m lucky that I listened, that I wasn’t deterred, that I figured out my path and did not lose focus on the sustainability of my #career and the ability to work from my Center. I’m inserting myself into a cannon, I’m taking my place with other #fineartphotographers , with other #artists . My Work is sparking conversation, not just in the U.S., but internationally. I just finished an all-day film & interview with #NHK (Japan's national public broadcasting service) regarding my work. The episode will broadcast in primetime all over #Nipon . The morning I set a day to film with NHK, I got a call for another big(ger) project.
It. Is. Crazy.
I am forever thankful to @thecheriebomb for waking me up from my long slumber of not following my artistic path, creating my #personalbrand , and making me realize that my gifts were right under my feet, locked away for years, and now on full display for the World to Enjoy.
Today’s #ArtBlockZine workshop at the @baldwinhillslibrary is being really productive. Having conversations about #art , #zines , & college & career paths in & outside of the arts. We love being able to guide folks on their path to success, in the arts or not! ✊🏾
In 2017, @summaeverythang told in for an interview: “I think people are super excited about honoring themselves and their world in a country, in a world where we’re strategically made to feel invisible every day.” Back then, she was referring to the Kickstarter campaign for her Crenshaw District Hieroglyph Project. Now, you can see an initial version of the structure @hammer_museum. So happy to see it come to life, especially as someone who grew up in South Central LA. This piece is rife with history, Crenshaw culture, Afrofuturism + more. Photos don’t do it justice go see it in person. #MadeinLA
