Thank Fook it’s Friday 🎉
Walter Battiss showed his rebellious character with more than just his creation of Fook.
Regarding his painting technique, as he himself admitted; “I painted with a palette knife because the Wits art school said you should never paint with a palette-knife. So, I loved painting with a palette-knife. I loved being a rebel, doing what they said I mustn’t.”
Battiss used a palette-knife and sgraffito detailing to create these two bold works featured in our #AAASpring18 Auction, bringing vibrancy and vitality to otherwise banal scenes.
Walter Battiss | Flowers, fruit and paintbrushes | oil on canvas | 35.5 x 40.5 cm | Estimate: R400 000 - 600 000
Walter Battiss | Traders | oil on canvas | 51.5 x 61.5 cm | Estimate: R500 000 - 700 000
"Migrate" is going on sale!
As those of you who have been following me for a while know, I've just moved to a new studio and need to free up space for new works. This means that I'm discounting pieces before I paint over them to make new things. I'm going to feature more of these over the coming weeks so keep an eye out for deals!
This piece is a lovely size, big but not too big, 90cm x 121cm x 2.5cm, and is now available through me (for a short time) at R6500, including couriering.
I love this little heron and would really rather he went to a home than got painted over. 😊
