Special guests joining us from Banff this weekend for beer club. We managed to get a good spread together for my besties -- fantastic variety spanning Denmark, the UK, Germany, Belgium, and a couple homegrown brews.
Lagunitas Dark Swan... the funny part is as I was looking at it in the store I was thinking all Lagunitas beers taste the same, so I was excited to try something different from them. My first sip though made me realize it still tastes very similar to all their other stuff, just with a little sour kick 😂 #lagunitas#darkswan#sourale#beersofinstagram#sourbeer
Celebrated Ramson’s 35th Birthday yesterday at #bendbrewfest followed up by sushi dinner. I like sours and cider he likes it all but leans toward IPAs! My fav the Reverend Nats Sacrilege Sour Cherry. We work more than play lately with all the homesteading projects but fortunately it’s creating meaningful life. #happybirthday#workhardplayhard#bendoregon#beers#ipa#sourbeer
Krak! Is a #notlambic kriek style beer aged in port barrels with Balaton cherries from the Hudson Valley. Deep, dark, intense sour cherry flavor supported by vanilla and an equally dark port wine barrel character. Put this up blind against your favorite kriek.
Next on the menu tonight is the Combat Wombat from @rogueales . I grabbed this one from my job the day it came in strictly based on the name and art on the bottle. Let's be honest here, whoever came up with this deserves a promotion.
Once you are able to get over the bottle, the pour is a beautiful pale yellow while in action, settling to a hazy honey color. The head is effervescent and dissipates quickly, barely leaving a trace after it has gone. The nose is hardly there, a slight earthy citrus is present if you look for it, but I wouldn't notice it from a glance. The palate...wow. There is a lot going on here. Tartness starts you off, a citrus tart with grapefruit, orange and tangerine. Those fruits take front stage next; full, juicy, sweet, with the tart from before coming back on the backend. The hops try to fight their way in on the legs, but they are just overshadowed in every possible way. They play an accent to the citrus, but you have to hunt for them. I almost feel like this is mislabled as a NE IPA. I honestly feel this could be marketed as a sour and it would be right at home. As it stands, I walked in to this expecting something a little different. Not a bad beer in the least, I would definitely buy this again, but I just know what I am walking in to this time. I would recommend this to someone looking to get in to sours or someone looking for something refreshing for the beach.
@crookedstave in Colorado doing things right. This “St. Bretta (Summer) Citrus Wildbier / Batch 2 - Valencia Orange” American wild ale is so refreshing. Thanks for the recommendation @tashatowardsbethlehem !
Surprisingly super duper #brunch @oldeenglishpub in Albany, Ny including traditional English breakfast (roasted tomatoes and mushrooms divine!) And a spicey red curry. Having just visited #schyulermansion , I washed it down with @gunhillbrewery session sour IPA- tart and light, perfect for an early glass of beer. They even played great tunes.
A minute off the expressway or the riverwalk and 15 from the airport, I highly recommend.
Short's Brewing Company | Soft Parade Shandy
Well it wouldn't be a proper summer without Soft Parade Shandy from @shortsbrewing! I had been so obsessed with their regular Soft Parade, when I found out they were making a shandy out of it, I was so excited. It's easy drinking, refreshing, fruity and delicious! I love drinking them all summer long, and frankly, I'd certainly drink them all year round if I could! Also, that beautiful glassware is from @iprefercraftbeer - makes me feel really fancy drinking out of that glass! #iDrinkSoMuchBeer#ilovemytekus#iprefercraftbeer
