Released on 21 October 1983, still one of my favourite albums. Soul Mining from The The. I love everything about it - from the missing 7 in the introductory countdown of I’ve Been Waitin’ For Tomorrow (All Of My Life), through the poignant This Is The Day, to the mighty piano on Uncertain Smile (long before a Jools Holland piano became a tired cliche) before closing with the incredible chants and beats of Giant. Perfect got tagged on to the CD release; back then it was an extra 12 inch given away with initial copies. And it is a perfect record; and that’s before I even mention the icing on the cake - Andy Dog’s stunning cover art. #TheThe#SoulMining#music#stonecoldclassic#MattJohnson#35years
When I think of those East End lights
The curtains drawn in the little room downstairs
Prima donna Lord you really should have been there
Sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair
And it's one more beer
And I don't hear you anymore
We've all gone crazy lately
My friends out there rolling round the basement floor
And someone saved my life tonight sugar bear🎶🎶
Dancin' where the stars go blue
Dancin' where the evening fell
Dancin' in your wooden shoes
In a wedding gown
Dancin' out on 7th Street
Dancin' through the underground
Dancin' little marionette
Are you happy now?
Where do you go when you're lonely
Where do you go when you're blue
Where do you go when you're lonely
I'll follow you
When the stars go blue🎶
Hey! You over there, I know about your kind
You're like the Independent Network News on Channel 9
Everywhere that you go, no matter where you at
I said you talk about this, and you talk about that
When the cat took your tongue, I say you took it right back
Your mouth is so big, one bite would kill a Big Mac
You talk too much
You never shut up🎶
Soul Mining by The The. I know you’re probably thinking, why would you call your group The The? Well to be honest I think you just answered your own question. The The is a name that’s going to make people talk about it. Matt Johnson (founding member) knew exactly what he was doing. This 80’s group to me is very unique that even if they have a song I’m not a fan of, I’m a fan of the experimental side of it all. There’s no limits to where they can go and I think it’s awesome. Plus the album artwork for this album is quite interesting too. Song playing “This Is The Day” 🎶 just listen to that accordion #thethe#soulmining#eighties#mattjohnson#records#vinyl#lp#audiotechnica#yamaha#originalpressing
For your eyes only, can see me through the night.
For your eyes only, I never need to hide.
You can see so much in me, so much in me that's new.
I never felt until I looked at you.
For your eyes only, only for you.
You'll see what no one else can see, and now I'm breaking free.🎶
I saw her, yea I saw her
With a black tongue tied round the roses
A fist pounding on a vending machine
Toy diamond ring stuck on her finger
With a noose she could hang from the sun
And point it out with the dark sunglasses
Walking crooked down the beach
She spits in the sand
Where their bones are bleaching🎶
Well women and children need kisses
Not the man in my life I know
And I been goin' to Mister and Miss
I respect the art at the show
Take back what you said little girl
And while you're at it take yourself back too
I'm tired of sittin' and waitin'
Woman, whatcha gonna do now, whatcha gonna do about it
I'm thinkin' about my doorbell
When ya gonna ring it, when ya gonna ring it🎶
The world has turned and left me here
Just where I was before you appeared
And in your place, an empty space
Has filled the void behind my face
I just made love with your sweet memory
One thousand times in my head
You said you loved it more than ever🎶
