This came up for me this week numerous times in numerous ways. From watching the film Greenbook & seeing a friendship evolve to a poignant reminder via a post by @weareallalittlecrazy
that “the opposite of addiction is not sobriety. It is human connection”. Please reach out to someone/anyone this holiday season. Face to face if at all possible. Or consider some loving random act of kindness. Because as “they” say, none of us are getting out of here alive. Just sayin’ #soulfoodsunday#lovewhatmatters#connection#loveconnectsusall
What do you do after another vaca weekend well spent with your funniest cousins who make you laugh non-stop all while sharing some major kitchen time with mom aka Auntie Desiree? (Who by the way, accidentally drank vodka + had us all in tears with her one liners ‘Don’t tase me, Bro’. Hope you caught my stories. Her laugh was contagious!) Thank you for the memories mom! 💓
You recover.... by eating more food!! That’s what you do. 💁🏻♀️
Don’t be jelly @sunny7575 + @Ed farhat3, mom MADE me go to the store with her after you left to make Raw Kibbe 🙈 It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo freakingggg delicious!!!! •
If you don’t know what Lebanese Raw Kibbe is..you are missing out on the most mind blowing tastiest meat dish. You could compare it to the middle eastern version of a steak tartare which is a raw meat dish (lamb or fillet mignon) that has been run through a meat grinder 3x for the silkiest texture + massaged with flavors from finely grated onion + a special kind of wheat + kibbe seasoning and served with drizzled high quality olive oil and Lebanese bread for dipping. The love that goes into this dish makes each bite incredibly flavorful and savory. Each bite is orgasmic. There is NO other way to describe this dish. •
Curious if you have ever tried this specialty before? It is kind of a foodie ‘club’ that us raw kibbe lovers live in!
“He said, ‘I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” - John 1:23 -
So today’s reading hit me with a verse that I haven’t heard since mission and I knew I had to share my thoughts.
I don’t know about you guys, but sometimes I feel like I’m just a voice crying out in the wilderness like John The Baptist. Amidst the endless noise and chaos of this world, and amidst all the hurt and pain, sometimes it feels like we’re just shouting into a vast void of emptiness with our prayers and silent battles. But what gives me hope in this wilderness set before us is that even if we feel like we’re just shouting into nothingness, we never are with God tethered to our minds and hearts. •
If we cry, if we scream, if we break down in the wilderness of despair and desolation, let us do so knowing that in the depths of our pain we can still make way for our God to meet us in it. The more we cry to God, and each time we offer up our suffering for Him, the straighter the path to Him & His healing- the more we can learn to truly love in the wilderness. •
For this #soulfoodsunday , I encourage you to reflect on these words of John and ask yourself if you know who you cry to, and who you cry for. Take courage my friends: I am with you in the wilderness, and so is He. 💛🙏
Guilty of loving vegan junk food...Vegan Macaroni from @avocadamama 😍😍 Go check them out!
So sad I was not there to try it but my boyfriend said it was so good! I can’t wait to get back to LA and try it 🌱✨💕
This weekend in a nutshell. My entire being was nourished, both figuratively and literally (from all of the delicious vegan food they were serving us😍) at the inaugural Black Maternal Health Conference and Training. It was energizing, informative, intentional, and healing from start to finish (I’ve been sharing some clips in my stories). It was an honor to lead the session with my sisters on maternal health, reproductive health, and environmental toxins. We’ve been looking forward our presentation for months! We thank you @blackmamasmatter @doyinspeaks for all that you do ❤️.
Last Sunday we were in the mood for some soul food. Look away if you're on a diet, counting carbs etc etc lol I've been cooking pretty healthy and sticking with lots of veggies and we've been doing only chicken, turkey and seafood. Definitely not much frying been going on but everyone needs some good ol southern soul food cooking every now and then. So we had biscuits and homemade gravy, fried chicken thighs, sweet potato casserole and cabbage. I enjoyed making and eating it all 🙌🏾💁🏾♀️😍👩🏾🍳
