I have been searching the last day or two for a quote to post for #worldmentalhealthday but I've realised that there isn't a quote to cover it all. All the individual experiences that people have. All the different demons everyone may face. Then I found one that stood out. "Mental illness isn't a choice. But recovery is". Healing isn't linear. It's not a straight road but a map with oceans and mountains in the way. It's a choice to make every single day. It's the choice to get out of bed in the morning. It's the choice to step outside and breathe in the fresh air. It's the choice to eat better, exercise, drink more water. It's the choice to go out and socialise when all you want to do is hide under the blanket on the sofa. It's the choice to sing your favourite song at the top of your voice. Sometimes it's just the choice to simply take a moment to breathe. It's the choice of life.
And sometimes, recovery is the choice to take an evening walk in the park.
