All pain is our teacher. Pain is resistance to what is happening. Pain teaches us how good we have it when there is none. A man who suffers great bouts of pain is a courageous one. A man who overcomes the suffering and uses every ounce of pain to make himself better is unstoppable. Use your pain. Be unstoppable.
April watched patiently as I threw fly after fly to every tarpon we saw. She supported me as I hurled profanities at each fish I lost (which was, coincidentally, also each fish we saw) while our poor guide just stood silently with the reserved disappointment of a parent that thought “you knew better.” We were both eaten alive by bird-sized mosquitos that bit us through our shirts and we each left with interesting sun burn patterns from 8 hours spent on a boat in Mexico. She’s the absolute best, and I’ll never have a better friend than my wife. She also took this killer photo.
I’ll be back for my tarpon soon.
