Stop vilifying social media, it hasn’t gone away and it’s not going to. I know many psychologists share the message of protecting our kids on-line, and that is a critical and valid message that needs to be heard.
But how are you going to protect them, if you don’t understand the forum? .
Your kids are not going to share what’s going on online if you roll your eyes every time they have a phone in their hand. And there’s no way they’ll let you shape their online activity. But I guarantee you someone will.
Social media can be an incredible tool. Kids have so much opportunity to communicate, connect, and be influencers. But parents play a critical role in helping them get the best out of the internet.
Don’t know anything about social media? If you’ve got teens chances are your living with an expert. Let them show you, and then they’ll likely let you teach them higher principles of conduct, persona, and personal truth. Humility is the best place to start.
