Kadoka, South Dakota
June 8th, 2018
Hey guys, so I finally got to chase some storms properly on the plains at the beginning of June, and what an experience it's been! While I didn't bag any tornadoes, I did see quite a few supercells, big hail, and got some of the craziest lightning photos I've ever taken. On this day in southern South Dakota, I was in front of a rapidly rotating hp supercell as bolts began to crash all around every 3-5 seconds, and I just had to stop and get a few pictures of the craziness ensuing all around. I pulled over on some random round about on highway 44 as constant cg strikes struck all about, constant thunder booming off my car as I questioned my own safety. That's when this bolt struck a few hundred feet away (this is a 16mm lens on a full framed camera body), immediate thunder that bounced off my chest, made my ears ring, and even made my car shake. Immediately after this shot I blasted east and away from the lightning barrage. Looking at the back of my LCD screen afterwards, I couldn't even believe I captured this bolt at such a close range! Definitely one of the craziest experiences of my life so far. Anywho, I should be posting more frequently, I'm going to aim for once a week for now. Hope you enjoy!
P.S.: Sorry for not posting for a while, the past few weeks have been pretty chaotic in my life, and I had to take a break from social media. I've currently moved to the east coast for the summer, and have been dealing with some personal problems that I don't generally feel like sharing. I'll eventually get better, but for now it's definitely a rough transition and a rough time in my life, but it's the rough times that keep us in reality.
