Sitting upright on the floor with your legs bent in front of you, keep a straight back, lift your hands off the floor, and pick your feet up as your draw your knees into your chest.
.
This is the “in" position of the exercise, during which you are contracting your abs and hip flexors to hold at the top. From here, lean back with a straight spine and straighten your legs out in front of you to act as a counter balance to offset the weight of your upper body. Keep your abs contracted to support your lower back and tuck your chin in as you lean back.
.
Just before your shoulder blades touch the floor, stop leaning back and hold this “out" position. Then lift your upper body back up away from the floor and draw your knees in towards your chest to return to the “in" position.

Repeat this movement with control for desired number of reps.

There’s a lot happening right now and I’m grateful for all of it! But these are the times that can be easy to let self-care fall by the wayside.

But not me, well not anymore at least. Taking care of MYSELF is my top priority. Especially during these times.

Is it selfish to take the little “extra” time for myself? Nope. Not in the freaking slightest.

I know that I am my best self when I prioritize ME. And that allows me to be the best partner, pup mum, friend, biz owner, & human I can be.

When you feel good, that stuff spills outwards onto the rest of your life.

Prioritize YOU and you will feel that reflect in all other areas.

It was a jam packed weekend with the Freeport holiday parade for Miss Maine, helping out at the Skate for Miracles event, a family photo shoot with the pup, and we also got to sneak in a little day date yesterday which was so nice. There’s a lot happening right now and I’m grateful for all of it! But these are the times that can be easy to let self-care fall by the wayside. But not me, well not anymore at least. 💥I’ve been LOVING my training recently..💥

After a good time spent trying to stay lean I made a deal with myself to start eating more and focus on my training... ☝🏼

My goal before now has always been to be lean & strong.
.
The same goal the majority of clients strive to achieve. 😄
.
But I have realised now that if I want to take my physique and strength to the next level I’m going to have to accept some weight gain (some of that being fat). ↗️
.
This has always been a difficult reality for me to accept until now. 🤔
.
I was a chubby kid.
.
And back then I worked hard to fix that...
.
Always learning more and more about training and nutrition every single day. 🤓 📚 🏋️‍♀️ 🥗
.
I’m about 4 months in to this “gaining” phase now.
.
I’ve gained around 10 pounds in scale weight.
.
And my lifts have been shooting up like crazy.
.
And I’m actually excited to get in the gym each week.
.
The key to getting a lean, strong, healthy and toned physique is...
.
A) Getting stronger over time on the main compound lifts.
.
B) losing excess body fat via a calorie deficit.
.
It’s that simple.
.
But there comes a time when to keep improving on part A of that formula...you have to postpone part B.
.
Last week I managed an Incline Dumbell Press with 36kg’s for 13,12,12,10 reps
.
That’s a NEW rep personal best for me.
.
To some of you this may mean diddly squat.
.
And I don’t expect it to mean much...
.
It’s my training and these are my goals.
.
But seeing progress like this excites me. 🙌
.
I hope you’re training and your goals give you that same excitement.
.
Keep competing with your potential and so will I.

Myth Bust Monday - The DETOX diet

In my opinion the worst FAD diet in the world. Everyone has tried it, going on a detox diet that is “supposed” to get rid of all the bad toxins in the body and drinking horrible “healthy juices” alone will solve our weight problems and make us feel better.

Firstly lets address the point of removing the toxins in our body. It has been proven that no amount of fasting or healthy juices will remove toxins from our body quicker than just normal eating. Our internal organs are designed to naturally release toxins from our body. Infact NOT ONE detox diet has been shown to remove any toxins from the body, they are only providing a placebo effect for users.

Going on detox diets are also not healthy. Following juice only diets means that our bodies are not getting sufficient nutrients to fuel your body nor do they provide enough calories.

The reason people see weight loss from these diets is due to loss of water retention and an extreme calorie deficit. Find me 1 person who has been on a juice only diet for longer than 4 weeks and is healthy?? _
Don’t be fooled by these companies that promote detox juice diets. They is no benefit for long term weight loss and any weight loss that you do get from them will most defiantly be put back on when the detox is finished.

4) BOOST metabolism through kicking ass in the gym with weights training 5 times a week 
5) Lift heavy shit!

You don't have to do long hours of cardio, on a treadmill or otherwise. I think I have said this enough times. Starving yourself the absolute WORST thing you can do. You metabolism will slow down causing you to gain the weight back when you start eating again normally. Ladies, if your friend Linda told you that she tried out a new diet that made her lose 3 KGS, more likely than not if you talk to her 4 weeks from now she will have gained back the weight she lost. And dudes, don't eat a double-decker beef burger and say the diet Coke is because you are cutting....

The best way to lose fat is just keeping 3 things in mind.
•
Consume a lot of protein: try to get around 1.5g per pound of body weight range. Research proves it burns more fat (and even builds more muscle) than those who consume around 1 gram.
•
Train to get stronger on bench press, deadlifts, squats, and other heavy compound movements to maximize the effect of Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), or the "afterburn effect".
•
The best technique that I have found that burns fat as fast as humanly possible is doing a minute of cardio before resting, or even instead of resting. Keep in mind that you should increase the INTENSITY of the cardio with time, not the duration.

I recently asked everyone what one of their biggest struggles was when it comes to reaching their fitness goals. Stress eating was the number one response I received back. -
At the end of the day, this is actually a super simple easy to mange. Not saying it won’t be hard in the beginning. It very well could be for some. The good news it’s it really comes down to a few simple things. -
The biggest reason you are stress eating, is you do not have a set plan and goals. Most people may just go on day to day with out knowing what or where they’re going. You need to have some structure. -
Think about. Everything important and that you enjoy has structure or a plan. Even an full time pilot that flys the same route daily, follows a flight plan. Once you know the plan and actually have it written down (and look at it daily) It will. E much easier to stay the course. -
Even when you fall off, experience turbulence, or road blocks, you know the path you have to get back on. Make that your first priority.

Second big factor is you need to track your macros and make sure you’re eating enough and right. If you don’t fuel your body adequately, you’re going to crave things more often. These are the two biggest factors.

Here are two ab exercises using step risers. 1st up is single arm planks moving a stack of 8 risers from one side to the other (then switching arms) and next is Russian twists with a stack of 10 risers (repeated 2 times each side). The risers add another level of difficulty to these moves and I’m sure you can think of others ways to incorporate these things 😏 Happy Monday!

Here's the truth: you can eat any food you want and still lose fat. You can also eat any food you want and gain body fat (I doubt you wanna do that).

The reason both of the above statements are true is because of a law called energy balance:

(Calories consumed) - (Calories burned) = Weight gain/loss
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And while it makes a lot of sense to eat mostly healthy foods like berries, spinach, chicken breast, melon, asparagus and bananas, you can eat some Oreos and a slice of pizza every now and then so long as you are not eating too many calories.

Here are 12 of my favorite foods when dieting for fat loss. They're filling, tasty, and nutrient dense. As long as calories are controlled, I can eat any of them in reasonable quantities.
