I woke up one morning, looked at my phone, saw something that prompted me to say "What next? The world's coming to an end." Then I caught myself. And said "No, it's not. We've been here, survived many things, and we're still here. Let me get my joy." And in those quick, little moments, because that's all they were, I changed my mindset. That one thought let me get out of bed with my spirit lifted.
Try it. It's really quick. It's really simple. No, it won't change the world. But it just might change you.
Tonight’s dinner is in the bag!
We’re having corn chowder as corn on the cob is so plentiful right now. .
Used to be, if I were going to be home, I’d let it simmer in the stove all day. If not, I’d throw it in a slow-cooker. But now I use this Wonderbag friends got me for my birthday.
With a Wonderbag, you heat your food to a boil and then place pot and all in the bag. It’ll continue to cook for 12 hours WITHOUT fuel, which means nothing is left “on”.
My favorite part? They donate proceeds to supply Wonderbags to people who live in Africa who traditionally cook over open flame. Doing so has a whole host of benefits—more time for education and job training & less fuel are just the beginning. .
Good eats and good karma? I’m in!
Oh, yeah, it can also keep things cold.
Aug 14 TEACHING TUESDAY | “The Alternate-Day Diet” By @carolinarmarrelli
The first phase of The Alternate-Day Diet lasts two weeks and is said to acclimate the body to intermittent fasting and turn on the “skinny gene.” This phase is very restrictive, and dieters have to limit themselves to no more than around 500 calories on Down Days. Often, meal replacement shakes and bars are utilized. On Up Days during this phase, you can eat as much as you like within reason. Participants are encouraged to enjoy Up Days to avoid diet fatigue and boredom.
After the initial phase, the “skinny gene” is said to be turned on, which means a faster metabolism. After the two-week induction period, dieters are free to eat regular food on Down Days, but must continue limiting themselves to 20% of usual calories consumed. Once desired weight is reached, you can eat up to 60% of your normal calorie allowance on Down Days. Some participants have reported weight loss and maintenance, improved metabolism, and a decrease in inflammation.
Foods to include:
* Whole grains
* Egg whites
* Nuts and seeds
* Healthy oils
* Meal replacement shakes
Foods to avoid:
* High salt foods
* High-fat meats
* Trans fats
* Processed foods
* Refined grains
* Simple to follow
* Benefits proven true by clinical research
* Improves metabolism
* Meal replacement shakes may be lacking in nutrients
* Hunger and fatigue is a concern on Down Days
* Not recommended for those with a history of eating disorders
* Doesn’t promote physical activity

Aug 14 TEACHING TUESDAY | “The Alternate-Day Diet” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Welcome to my series “Dietary Theories 101” where each Tuesday, I will be highlighting one of many ways of eating. Please keep in mind that I am simply SHARING information and brining to light one of hundreds of dietary theories that are out there. Some I love, and some I can’t even believe exist. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This week, I am going to teach you about “The Alternate-Day Diet”. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
James B. Johnson, MD, author of The Alternate-Day Diet, has conducted several clinical trials to determine if a “skinny gene” is switched on when calorie intake is restricted every other day. Not only did he find this diet promotes weight-loss, he also noted numerous health benefits such as lower blood pressure, improved insulin resistance, reduced arthritis, and decreased number of free radicals in the bloodstream.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This diet requires every day to be labeled an “Up Day” or “Down Day.” Up Days allow you to consume as much as you’d like and Down Days require you to restrict your caloric intake. For the first two weeks of the diet you consume no more than 20% of your usual caloric intake on Down Days.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you ever tried this way of eating? If so, comment below!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

On the ⬅️left side, this was me last summer, I was the heaviest I have ever been (🚫not 🤰pregnant), but I honestly 🤷♀️don't remember what that weight was. I was 👨⚕️clinically depressed and decided to go off ALL 💊medications 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️without letting anyone know because I was gaining weight, a side effect of a 2nd 💊medication that wasn't working and added ⛽fuel to my depression. I woke up every morning wanting ☕Starbucks, 🥤Diet Coke and 🍔Cheeseburgers to get me through the ☀️day.
On the ➡️right side, this is me yesterday, I am just over 29 weeks 🤰pregnant. I know the scale still hasn't reached whatever it said a year ago...a number that I 🤷♀️can't and didn't care to rememeber, 😘thanks to depression.
I am 🙏grateful I found a 👩🔬solution to aid my ongoing symptoms that I 🚶♀️face, for my increased 🔋energy to get through the day, being able to 💤sleep better at 🌑night, and most importantly for the gained 💁♀️confidence that had 🕯dulled. I have learned you don't have to completely change your lifestyle to work towards a better 💁♀️you...small simple changes make a HUGE difference❗
Alright lovely peeps! I get asked ALL THE TIME how this is possible. Which, I LOVE THAT QUESTION BY THE WAY. 🎉🙂 So, if you’re a visual learner like me this speaks volume! These beauties have legitimately TRANSFORMED my health (not to mention energy and focus) and my family’s health! 🙏🏻🙌🏻 These are NOT vitamins. "Vitamins” are chemical renditions of nutrients that your body has to filter, and are not always recognizable.
These capsules filled with whole food concentrates are simple.....⤵️ 🍅 put real produce in a large blender (33 in all)
💦 take out the water (about 90% water) 💊place remaining powder in a capsule
WHICH MEANS: 😍you get to Flood your body with TONS of nutrients from 33 plant foods EVERY single day 🥦🍑🍏🍒🍊🍅🥒🥕🍍🍇 THE BEST PART?!?!?!?!
📚 Backed by 25 years of 38 published research studies proving it works and Doctors all over the world recommending it.
👨👩👧👦 Children can qualify to get free chewables or capsules for up to 4 years which is amazing because this is about FAMILY HEALTH too! 🤟🏻
Life tip: make the time for self care, even amongst a busy schedule. I’ve been actively tackling this black dog I call my mental well-being over the last week. Taking the time to unwind, read a book, breathe, even cry. But I’m feeling so much better for it. I had a wake up call, somewhat to the detriment of the people around me, because I simply was not looking after myself. Time for change, time for growth...time for a face mask and a cup of tea. #simplechanges#selfcarefirst#thingsittakesawhiletounderstand

Not the prettiest of photos but a quick little lunch I threw together this morning! Bagged organic quinoa, frozen butternut squash, avocado, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Took me 10 minutes to make this morning and probably will last me a couple days! Quick and easy works for me!
🌿IF YOU WANT TO BE HEALTHY UOU SHOULD KNOW THIS🌿
I thought I was healthy and doing great until I changed something so small 5 years ago and now I know what healthy and filled with energy feels like. There are solutions out there to help you reach your goals- you just have to be willing to learn more and try them!
So, 100% of you said you're tired of dieting. Guess what? ME FREAKING TOO!
*SWIPE to see the change small tweaks can make in 1 week*
I came back from DC HEAVY! I left heavier than I love to be and came back heavier than i'm even slightly okay with being. My clothes all felt tight (Insert Regina George and her sweat pants being all that fit.) I thought to myself "Suzanne, you know what to do. Just do it." Instead, I fell back on what i've known my whole life. I heard every "diet advice" ringing in my head and not stopping. I got overwhelmed and started falling into really bad habits. Guess what? That did me nothing, but make me overwhelmed and frustrated.
So, last weekend, I planned my week. I made small adjustments to what my meals would be. I prioritized drinking plenty of water. I remembered that veggies are my friends. I remembered that when I eat at regular times i'm much more likely to not binge and go out to eat. If i'm honest, I was feeling pretty down on myself this weekend about my body, but I checked out these pictures and I know i'm on the right path.
What i'm doing isn't complicated, but it makes sense and it's effective. Even better, IT'S ON SALE THIS MONTH! So, if you're really tired of dieting and you want something lasting and sustainable (I mean the creator lost 100 pounds AND KEPT IT OFF), then drop me a 🤩 and let's do this together. Frankly, I could use the accountability and support right now!
TINY EDITS TO YOUR MORNING WAFFLES😋😋 ~ Recipe 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
Making #tinyedits is all about making super small tweaks, shifts, and swaps to your daily food and lifestyle routines, It's a completely painless way to get a little bit healthier each day in a way that is realistic and sustainable for the long haul.👍🏻⠀
One of my fave ways to make tiny edits in the food department is to swap out store-bought boxed and bagged foods with a homemade version of that food. That way, you know exactly what is going into your precious bod.⠀
We are BIG waffle fans over here, and although I wouldn't consider waffles to be a super nutritious food, they are awfully delish. ⠀
We came up with a recipe that is gluten-free and uses ingredients that we can pronounce. We usually pair our waffles with a healthy fat like grass-fed butter and we get our fiber and antioxidants from some mixed berries and oranges. ⠀
Here's the recipe for the waffles:⠀
✔2 cups GF flour - we buy GF flour from our local @sweetalisgfbakery in Hinsdale⠀
✔1 teaspoon salt⠀
✔4 teaspoons baking powder - we use Rumford baking powder which is GF and aluminum-free⠀
✔2 tablespoons coconut sugar⠀
✔2 organic, pasture-raised eggs - we love @vitalfarms eggs⠀
✔1 1/2 cups warmed nut milk - we used @milkadamia unsweetened milk⠀
✔1/3 cup grass-fed organic butter⠀
✔1 teaspoon vanilla extract⠀
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl and preheat waffle iron. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs; then stir in the milk, butter, and vanilla. Pour it into the dry mixture and beat until blended. Pour the mixture into the waffle iron and cook to your liking. (We like ours on the crisp side.) These babies freeze up nicely, so any extras can be refrigerated and toasted the next day, or tossed into the freezer for later use.⠀
I'm big on living wisely with this Earth. That includes composting and recycling! We try to REDUCE what comes in first, REUSE practically within our limited space and make sure to RECYCLE what we can. And knowing it's gonna become something new is kinda like magic if you ask me ;)
Next natural swap.... washing up liquid and multi surface spray ... I'm just trying to make a few simple changes at the mo, I'd be a hypocrite if I said my whole life and house was natural & eco friendly or that I knew loads about the area, because you just need to look around my house & that's a lie ha ha but its a start and I'm hoping it's going to maintain a healthy me and a healthy home both inside and out @method_uk #methoduk#beyondthebottle#fromplantsnotchemicals#simplechanges#itsastartanyway
Who loves these sweet, fuzzy treats?!! 🥝😋
My boys & Matt LOVE them. Looks like I need to start eating more of them seeing all the health benefits they provide!
Did you know that kiwis are full of vitamin c? Also a great source of vitamin K and rich in vitamin B6, which supports the immune system. B6 is particularly important for pregnancy and nursing! Antioxidant super hero here.
84.4 milligrams vitamin C (141 percent DV)
36.7 micrograms vitamin K (46 percent DV)
284 milligrams potassium (8 percent DV)
1.3 milligrams vitamin E (7 percent DV)
0.1 milligram copper (6 percent DV)
22.7 micrograms folate (6 percent DV)
At last nights wellness presentation one of the many things we learned about was dehydration. We all know how important water is to our overall healthy. Did you know when we are dehydrated it causes our white blood cells to clump together, decreasing their ability to function properly? Even at the first sign of dehydration- THIRST- the clumping process has already begun.... Today and moving forward I am challenging myself to step up my water game. I want to make sure I am properly hydrated. Clumpy white blood cells aside- there are TONS of other benefits of drinking more water- weight loss, weight management, clearer skin, better digestion, flushing of toxins, just to make a few. So fill that glass and let’s drink up!
Witajcie śpioszki 😄😊😋
