Pumpkin cake dessert inspired by Yayoi Kusama's art style.
As we were taking a break in the cafeteria from the fun Yayoi Kusama exhibit, we noticed there was a special menu in the form of a dessert inspired by the artist's pumpkin installation.
This dessert is aptly pumpkin-flavored. With cream pudding based main dessert dressed in pumpkin flavored sauce with biscuit underneath, and pumpkin spice reduction dots adorning the plate

Seasonal / Event menu (September 2017)
We didn't expect much for a seasonal / eventual menu we just want to try it. Boy, we were so wrong to underestimate this dish.
It was actually a very tasty dessert even without the gimmick. Plus the design and plating, we give two thumbs up to National Gallery Singapore's cafeteria team!!! This goes to show sometimes you can find the best food in unexpected places.

Springy noodles with the signature black vinegar, the bar chor mee hidden at this simple coffeeshop leaves quite an impression. The mushroom was well braised and the lean pork meat was gently chewy. Quite a popular choice for the lunch crowd, be sure to go there earlier! (PS: Heard that it was Speaker of Parliament, Mr Tan Chuan Jin's favourite too!😉)

PROPOLIS HONEY (850g): There are two types of propolis, green and black. We use only the most natural, alcohol-free green propolis, which is higher in bioflavonoids content as compared to the other. Drop us a comment / dm for more info! ;)
Braised beef noodled with tendon from LeNu 🍲.
•Honestly, the portion is really generous but the broth is really quite average. There was no intense beef flavour i was hoping for. However, their dry wonton in chilli oil was the best i ever had. 🥟

Noodles can anot? -
One of the most common asian cravings is noodles. And very often, people will tend to tell me that they cannot live without noodles. Well, you don’t have to run away from them, but are you willing to have lesser of them? 😬
One of my favourite bread from Duke Bakery! 🍞
Love that the azuki beans are not too sweet! And the mochi is ❤️ too, and that’s for someone who’s not really a mochi person hahah. It’ll be perfect if the matcha is more intense!
They’re having a promotion for a few types of bread with this included. And it’s only $3.80! Till this Sunday! 😊
The Mid Autumn festival falls on 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar (24/9/18 this year). ⠀
On this day, Chinese people eat pastries known as mooncakes. These are traditionally baked pastries filled with sweet lotus paste, which are shaped with wooden molds. ⠀
There are different two widely accepted legends of how this tradition came to be. ⠀
Mooncakes were said to be used by Ming revolutionaries in their effort to overthrow the Mongolian rulers of China towards the end of the Yuan Dynasty. ⠀
Secret messages were hidden in the mooncakes to coordinate a revolt on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. ⠀
Another legend tells the tale of Hou Yi and Chang Er. ⠀
It was said that there used to be ten suns in the sky, which made it unbearably hot. ⠀
Hou Yi was an excellent archer and he shot nine of them down. The people were so grateful that they made him emperor. ⠀
However, Hou Yi later began to abuse his power and became quite the despotic ruler. ⠀
Hou Yi was intent on obtaining immortality and began to search far and wide do an immortality elixir. When the elixir was found, his wife, Chang Er decided to eat it to save everyone from the eternal rule of a tyrant. ⠀
As soon as she ate it, she floated towards the moon. Hou Yi watched her ascent but, despite being an excellent archer, he couldn’t bear to shoot his lover down. ⠀
As a result, Chang Er lived on the moon, and Hou Yi would gaze up at her every time there was a full moon. ⠀
Which story do you prefer? ⠀
COLD STONE CREAMERY
NASI LEMAK 8/10
My friend exclaimed "Ew!" at the thought of eating Nasi Lemak-flavoured ice cream, then said she felt "confused" after a taste.
For me, it actually tasted pretty good, though I wish the ikan bilis was more crispy and less salty. They very cleverly substituted coconut rice with rice krispies, and wisely chose not to add sambal chilli into the mix.
PULUT HITAM 7/10
Nothing extraordinary. It tastes just a lil better than the typical potong ice cream found in supermarkets.
$240++ per person
Shoukouwa places strong emphasis on providing the finest quality of food to its patrons, even if it comes at extra costs. They replaced the Squid with Botan Ebi after determining the Squid wasn't optimal enough.
The Sashimis satisfied my "raw", and I was blown away by the Silver Belt Fish, it beats Cod hands down! Didn't think much of the Miso Soup, but the melon was incredibly sweet without making me suspect that they soaked it in sugar.
We had an enjoyable time chatting with the manager Desmond Wong, and got to learn nuggets of info about our food and the restaurant!
Staff were friendly and approachable. They also took the initiative to find space for our (rather large) bags.
The intimate space (sits 12 people approximately) is not for the claustrophobic. Don't think about having loud and boisterous conversations there too, you'll stick out beyond sore thumbs 😅
This is an indulgent experience which won't be for everyone and every occasion. Nonetheless, if you're looking to pamper someone who's a huge Japanese food fan, I heartily recommend Shoukouwa!
ANGIE'S OYSTER BAR
The Landmark Circuit | Monaco Oyster Festival
$226++ per person
Slurpalicious fresh! My friend and I had 54 in total 😅
Mussels & Clams
Be it Traditionelle or Lobster flavour, these are the best I've eaten, trumping even those I had at a mussels festival in Robertson Quay 2-3 years back!
A healthy protein-rich salad to kickstart my binging is always a plus point!
Spanish Grilled Octopus
Grilled without the meat being tough or chalky, the potatoes and oranges provided a nice contrast too
Mac & Cheese
Be it the Angie's or Truffle variation, both were equally yummy. They used smaller than usual macaroni which somehow was just in between being hard and soft, despite being embedded deep within the cheese, genius!
A very memorable variation of this difficult-to-get-right dessert, we loved the fruity gelato and fruits berry much 😂
Awfully Chocolate-standard type of chocolate, uniquely paired with a mango "wafer", ensured that I would order two of these to indulge in 😁
Irony of irony, what should have been the easiest to pull off was the least satisfactory dish of the night. The texture of the fries loses out to even Burger King's freshly served ones 😑
Food was served to us relatively promptly, and staff were warm and friendly. I do wish they changed our eating plates more frequently though, and not do so only about 90 min into our feast.
Spacious and appropriately lit. TVs had F1 on but the volume was just right.
Minor quibbles aside, the fantastic view, atmosphere, and very yummy food makes it easy for me to recommend Angie's Oyster Bar to all foodies!
Tried all 5 types of wings to do a comprehensive review 😅
Original, $2.90, 9/10
Pre-enhanced with additional flavours, this is an excellent starting point for embracing the magic of StuffedWing's chicken!
Nasi Lemak, $3.80, 9/10
LOVE the accompanying sweet sambal, which contains 6 types of chilli! It's also super special cos it doesn't leave a lingering numbing taste to your taste buds, perfect for folks like me with sensitive stomachs!
Salted Egg Yolk Prawn, $3.80, 8/10
The paste isn't savoury enough, but the prawns are chewy and fresh!
Mac & Cheese, $3.80, 10/10
Impressively, the mac & cheese is nowhere near a gooey mess! My 2nd fave next to the nasi lemak
Nonya Curry, $3.80, 9/10
Sweet tangy curry with potatoes for carb loading 💪
One of the bosses, Aaron, was around to interact with customers and gather feedback. He was friendly, down-to-earth, and open to suggestions, though he frankly told me that my idea of a mango cubes-stuffed chicken wing is unlikely to work 😅
Tampines Mall Kopitiam is an easy peasy 5 min walk from the green line exit of Tampines MRT.
They've 1-for-1 deals from 830pm onwards!
Such culinary innovation and humility from the owners can only bode well for their business. I'm definitely a fan and will be back for more!

SEASONAL CHIRASHI DON $77.10
Shima Aji, Madai, Hirame, Uni, Chutoro Aka Ebi, Ikura, Tamago, Hamachi Belly, Otoro, Salmon Belly
Such a pleasing spectacle, and it certainly didn't disappoint! There was both quality and quantity in terms of the premium ingredients used. Even the wasabi is of notably higher standards than most other places' offerings.
Food came relatively promptly, and staff were friendly. I declined to have any drinks, and they offered me a glass of FOC warm water lol.
Discovered a cockroach to my right while I was eating 😱 I wasn't too sure how to react, and even now, my thoughts are mixed 🤔
7-min walk from Orchard MRT. It's not the easiest of places to find in the mall though, it's hidden in a corner.
I've never believed that any restaurant is 100% pest free, so I'd still return to The Sushi Bar (this review marks my 3rd visit actually) for their top notch offerings. Of course, it helped that I didn't have diarrhoea after the meal 😅
I'm curious though, what would you guys do if you spotted a cockroach at your dining place?
