Thanks @littlebluegigi for sharing your Trello board! I use Trello for my business anyway so when it came up on @lovetosew.podcast, I knew it might be a good option for me. I still didn't actually build it until I did a bit of stocking my stash this summer with a few patterns and some fabrics I knew I wanted to sew for some much needed staples.
For me the usefulness of Trello so far has especially been having a place I can keep track of care instructions, retailer AND where I can look up the yardage for patterns I have when I'm shopping IRL or online.
I've organized mine by garment type and I put patterns and stash fabric that I have plans for in that column. Sounds like @helens__closet and others use Trello to move things through a workflow- which is what I do for work to some extent - but right now my sewing board is more of a list maker and catalog.
Also @littlebluegigi I can't believe we didn't think to get a picture the other day --next time!
In continuation from yesterday... I got this wacky idea that I could use one of those cheap popup closets to store my sewing patterns and other supplies. My house is older than dirt and real closet space is at a premium. #sewing#sewingroom#sewingorganization#sewist ✂ 🌟
Challenge #4 : WIP #sewtembercosplaychallenge *******
Currently, I’m in between projects as I clean up my workspace to prep for a new cosplay project. I made a database where I am entering in all my patterns, which is cross referenced to my long queue of projects that I want to work on (ordered by priority, if I have the fabric, etc. ) *******
These two database are then linked to a 3rd DB containing my Fabric Stash. So I know if I have a pattern, the fabric, and any needed trim for whatever project I want to work on. ****
All of this is in its infancy as I’ve only got about a 100 or so Patterns entered, but I have a total of 34 queued up costumes and regular clothing that I want to create. I have yet to start on the Fabric Stash DB. #sewing#sewingorganization
At my other house I always put my stuffing in a round wicker hamper that I had. And it was difficult to shove it in. The basket was breaking and snagging on my dresses so I ditched it in the move. I’ve been looking at these hampers for a while but none really jumped out as me as they didn’t fit my room. UNTIL today!!! This one is perfect!! And the bag fit right in with no struggle!!! I hate looking at the box!!! #raggedyoldannies#sewingroom#sewingorganization
Day 12 Tips and Techniques #sewphotohop#sewphotohop2018 @houseofpinheiro⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A Sewing Apron—I really like having this apron under my machine for quick access to tools and notions. Snips, seam gauge, hemostats, chap stick, safety pins, fabric glue (for buttons), point turner, lotion, pens and more right at my fingertips. Makes for more efficient sewing. It’s also great for travel sewing to retreats or classes. #notions#sewefficient#sewingorganization#seworganized#sewfun
#sewphotohop Creative Process: I haven't had much of one up until now, as I've only been sewing again for a few months. But heading into fall, I wanted to evaluate my current wardrobe and figure out what gaps need to be filled. I listed the items in my closet that fit well and I really love to wear, and added a few items that I will sew to fill the gaps. I also made a document with the line drawings of all the PDF patterns I own and hung out in the wall in my sewing room. I am trying to use each pattern multiple times. Current winner? Emerson Crop pattern. I've made and modified this so many times. Currently waiting to sew up a pair of pajama pants with it! #sewingisselfcare#sewingorganization#sewingcapsule#seattlesews
#sewphotohop2018 Day 4: Sewing corner
I have moved a LOT in my decade of sewing, so I've been through quite a few sewing setups. I'm mostly happy with what I have now and am lucky I can have my things out permanently (but ohhhh the jealousy at the sewists who have been posting their rooms and attics and basements entirely devoted to sewing!) All my things are in my bedroom--a sewing desk with all my most-used tools on pegboard and drawers for other stuff; a little shelf with a few bins for upcoming projects, paper patterns, and books; a shelf shoved into my closet with the rest of my fabric stash, and a little bench (that I refinished and reupholstered myself!) where I keep all my PDF patterns. When I have the space my next goal is to get/make a cutting table, but for now what I have works pretty well 😊 More details in my stories! #sewphotohop#sewphotohop18#sewist#sewistsofinstagram#sewingspace#sewingroom#sewingcorner#sewingorganization#patternstorage#cattax#sewyourown#makeyourown#toolsofthetrade#boisesews#idahosews
#sewphotohop2018 Day 5️⃣ Sewing space
I’m really lucky to have a whole room for my hobby (ok, my husband gets about 5% for his karting stuff). It’s our spare bedroom and usually guests get to sleep on the air bed because I could not fit a sofa and the cutting table (that big thing in the left). But priorities, right? ▫️This was the 3rd or 4th version, as every year or so I get the itch to redecorate. I feel that this time however I have reached the optimum Feng Shui 😬 and might chill for a bit ▪️ absolutely everything except for the sewing machines is from @ikeauk ▪️sewing machine is from @pfaffsewing ▪️overlock and coverstitch from @babylocksewing .
Day 5 // #sewphotohop // Sewing corner! Here's an older pic of my sewing corner which is in Mint's room. There's a folding table in front of it now with my sewing machines on it. It's not that I don't want to show you a 'real life' photo, because it looks like this nearly all the time, but I'm just working on too many 'secret' projects at the moment. I'm still sewing samples for @gabberdashery patterns and I'm also working on new garments for @patternpals. I will be able to share it all soon, I just don't want to spoil the surprise!! #sewphotohop2018#sewingcorner#fromwhereisew#sewingroom#kallax#sewingorganization#sewistsofinstagram
When I take a sewing class or a sit & sew, numerous people in the class ask me what all I carry in my box. I have 3 different boxes. One for appliqué, hand stitching & wool. 1 for hexies, and one for general sewing/machine quilting. I find it easier to grab and go instead of having to pack each time. Oh and yes i have a complete set up in my sewing studio so i never have to get into my boxes. Here are a few photos of my Hexi box. #sewing#sewingorganization#organization#hexies#quilting#fabric#scissors#threads#sewingkit#lovesewing#sitnsew
One of my summer goals was to reorganize my thread and bobbins. I haven’t exactly accomplished that goal yet. .
Reordering is also a spiritual principle. Lloyd Oglivie writes in his commentary on the book of Colossians “if I hold fast to my conviction that Christ is in charge and knowing what He’s doing with me, how can I doubt His loving reordering of my life?” I have had to bring myself back to that truth many times in the past six months since my dad went to glory. Death wasn’t expected. I had planned to have him here for a long time to come and yet God is reordering my life with love and I have to trust Him. #hopewriter#griefandloss#fatherlessdaughters#godisgood#calledtobecreative#whereiwork#ilovesewing#seamstresslife#sewingorganization#sewistofinstagram
#braugust2018 and today's theme is 'Organisation' and I was proud that I managed to get all my elastics into one location ie this empty popcorn bucket until I saw everyone else's super organised spaces, still stashing everything beside my bed for now
BRAugust2018 Day 22: Organization. I try to be organized but it doesn't usually go so well. I hang my fabric on an old piece from a crib so I can see what I have. There are 4 crib pieces total, so there is a lot of fabric. I also try to organize my patterns with tab dividers, but that box is kind of stuffed. I usually (key word there. Hahaha) try to write things down in my notebook to try to keep my thoughts organized. Occasionally I finish a project that way. But I mainly keep all my bra/undie items in a separate basket for easy access. @sweet_cups_bra_supply #BRAugust2018#Braugust2018#sewing#sewingkeepsmesane#sewcial#lingeriesewing#handmade#makersgonnamake#sewingorganization
Along with our new baby, we have a new home, this time with two bedrooms! And until Finn is old enough to need his own space, I get to take over the second bedroom as a craft room! After many naptime organizing sessions, I'm finally settled in enough to give you a tour! Here are a few pictures of the new space. If you want to see more (or see more in depth how I organize things) head over to my blog for a deep dive!
We’re back from our road trip and I’m excited to get back to some sewing! I had to show off the cute project pouches @simplifybyfay made me! Not only is Crystal a dear friend, but I love the way she puts fonts and design elements together! Now I just need to work on the projects in all these pouches! Get your own from @simplifybyfay (and take a peek at all the other fun stuff in her shop too!) #simplifybyfay#projectpouch#wip#sewingorganization#projectorganization#worksinprogress
Paper Towel Holders for Ribbon
If you love ribbon half as much as we do, then you already know how hard they can be to keep track of. Luckily, we stumbled upon the genius idea of using a vertical rod (like a paper towel holder) to stack your spools, and the rest is just organized storage closet history. This DIY version is from The Cottage Mama. #ribbonart#sewingorganization @krufeorganizer
