My giant circus tent of a patchwork dress is nearly done - I still need to add pockets. But I was too excited about it and couldn't resist getting in a photo first.
Mix of linen, cotton and rayon fabrics from @wearethefabricstore and @crossgrainfabrics
The Solina Dress from @namedclothing ‘Breaking the Pattern’. She’s a beauty that Solina. I’m getting some strong ‘medieval queen’ vibes from this design/fabric/color combination...or as my daughter named it: ‘The Game of Thrones Dress’. Sold. Cersei would definetely wear this. But I’m not letting that b**** anywhere near this dress!! 😂. I’m wearing the size 4 and the fit is spot on!! No changes at all. It’s not easy to see from these photos, but the skirt has a sexy high cf split. The cupro/tencel fabric is so dreamy - like wearing cream! It’s sold out at the moment but will be back in stock at @metermeterdk next week. If you want to see this dress irl you are welcome to stop by the shop in Aarhus, Denmark ♡ Have a nice weekend everyone
Here’s the picture of my first dress 👗🤦🏻♀️😂 it’s in a pile because it defeated me last night. It’s far too big. I didn’t get the seam allowance right. I wasn’t sure how to do an ease stitch in the sleeve and the darts at the bust didn’t look right. I was so excited to get something wearable done for the weekend 😓 I went to bed feeling frustrated and defeated. I realise that sewing is going to teach me perseverance if nothing else 😂 // BUT! I’m going to unpick all the stitches and try again 💪🏻 I have to remind myself that I’m learning and all the things I see other people making took time too. Wish me luck 😂✨
In what’s truly a classic Jaclyn move, I made a skirt to go with @marathonmermaid lewk for the WDW marathon
While we were working on her outfit, we rewatched Monster’s Inc and I knew I had to make a George Sanderson inspired skirt to cheer her on (read as drink margs in Epcot)
#bpsewvember work in progress. Most of my time is currently spent working on Christmas presents. But between times, I’ve been cutting out a few #selfishsewing projects. Cut is a vintage top, a button up shirt and pair of Morgan jeans. Next up to cut is this @merchantandmills #top64 in this greenish linen look. The cotton will be contrasting facings. I discovered the coordinating cotton today. So that will probably be the first one sewn. #sewcialists#sewersofinstagram#sewover50
I've had my bouts with not-so-great ribbed knits, and I can promise you that this fabric is 👏not 👏 one of those! After getting this fabric in the mail, I share it on stories, and Evelyn (@slowintention) and I talked (swooned?) over DM's about how amazing it is! It is SO soft, has AMAZING recovery, and is the PERFECT weight for autumn and winter weather. 🌫 It was easy to sew/serge, and I decided against hemming it so that my #nikkotop had more of a sweater feel (and it won't fray!).
It WAS sold out, but I have excellent news for you -- It's back in stock at @indie_sew!🎉 So run. 🏃 And tell me all of your favorite patterns to use ribbed knit for 👇 because I need an excuse to buy more! (Not joking.) Swipe ➡ for a closer look at the fabric. 😻
I made some #landerpants (pattern by @truebias) with detachable suspenders and I feel very sophisticated in them. I almost never wear pants - especially not coloured pants - so these are a big departure for me. I added 2” length to the rise and they are actually very comfortable - 💡makes me think maybe a lack of fit in this area is a reason I often hate wearing pants!!💡The fabric is 9 oz. brushed bull denim in burgundy from @fabricdotcom. #sewtall#cscmakes#sewcialists#sewistsofinstagram#jeportecequejecouds
#bpsewvember day 15: work in progress. I just finished this but I have a great tip for making sure you match the plaid and waistband on your zipper nicely especially if you hate using pins like me. Mark it with chalk or a water soluble pen and you will get that perfect match everytime. #sewing#sewcialists
Throwing it back to my baby seamstress!👶🏾✂️ My daughter first started using a sewing machine at 18 months, and I think she was newly 2 in this video.💘 I’m so glad I took videos of my daughter when she was first sewing 🧵 ....OMG you guys!!!!! There’s a SPOOL OF THREAD EMOJIIIIIIIII!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I can’t. Whaaaaaaa????? Omg. Is this really happening????!!!! 😱😱😱😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩 Anyway, I’m so glad to have these videos because we both enjoy watching them. This weekend, my daughter will be starting her first quilt! I bought @Disney fabrics (she’s 4.5, so princesses are life right now!) at @creativfestival, I cut them into large squares, and she’s going to start sewing them together this weekend. My intention is to have her sew the entire quilt herself. Let’s see a.) How long this takes or b.) How quickly she loses interest. 🤪😂👌✂️🧵🧵🧵🧵🧵 Seriously. This spool of thread is giving me LIFE!!!!! Happy Thursday, everyone!😘
A little over a year ago I thought it would be fun to try my hand at sewing my own activewear, I even bought fabric and patterns for it, but then I quickly remembered I don’t actually like sewing with knits, and also I already had a lot of activewear, so I didn’t really feel the pressure to follow through on those sewing impulses. Turns out though that if I suddenly do need a specialized piece of activewear, and it is cheaper to make it myself than to buy multiples, AND I can make it in ridiculous fabrics, then I will finally get around to sewing my own activewear. 😅😂😜 So here’s my two most recent sewing projects, some ridiculous pairs of hockey base layer shorts! They’ve got velcro to keep my hockey socks up and a little pouch in the front for my pelvic protector. I copied the pattern for them off of the pair I bought at the start of the season, and I’m not very skilled yet at copying/drafting patterns, so I’m pretty pleased these actually turned out right! I’m also really excited to have multiple pairs as it means I have to do laundry a little less often. 😬 I know it’s a little silly to have a garment you wear under so many layers be so decorative, but it’s going to make me laugh every time I wear them so I think it’s worth it! Excited to give them a test run at practice later tonight! ✨🏒🥅✨ #sewing#sewyourownactivewear#hockeysewing#hockeyshorts#activewear#sewqueer#sewsewsew#sewcialists#madeatlillstreet#handmadewardrobe#handmadeactivewear#workoutclothes#hockey#memade#memadewardrobe
😊 Sewing helps me work out designs! I love carefully refining a concept, so I wear-test designs on myself. Would you wear this blouse design?... I love the idea of playing with sheer vs opaque. Find the 🔗 to blog post in my profile 💞 #bpsewvember day 16

BB Bag Pattern Weights
This probably isn't a new idea, but it's new to me. I needed some pattern weights. I could have bought some or bought some big washers, but I had leftover fabric and left over BBs from another project. So I made little bags full of BBs. They are definitely heavy enough to hold down a pattern, and you can be quite cavalier about tossing them around or sweeping them off the pattern when you are done.
Love that @rachie_makes calls the #yorkpinafore pockets 'mum pockets'! They are very roomy and useful, so I am 100% on board. 🙌
#Repost : My recently completed @helens__closet #yorkpinafore , in an indigo denim. It’s so everyday wearable and I love the “mum pockets”, which for me was a big selling point of the pattern (I have four children and these will be USEFUL). 🤪 A really quick make, despite the four metres of bias binding! I’m enjoying all the beautiful autumn colours - these photos were taken just down the end of the lane we live in.

You know when you make something for someone else and you really wish you owned it instead and it was in your size? Yeah...that..... both patterns are from @burda_style I had to size up the unicorn hoodie to a kid's size 144 and the bomber jacket is a size 42. Both have in-seam pockets instead of welt pockets because I was abysmally behind time on these gifts and wanted to at least get one to them on time. #handmadegifts#sewing#sewcialists

My new #sewingcoco top made with @stonemountainfabric sweatshirt knit. I think I’ll use fabric with more stretch next time cuz I can just barely get it over my shoulders. It’s soo cozy, I love hiding in the unfolded neck when it’s cold in my unheated apartment.
