The students were pumped to come into the gingerbread house to read and learn about The Candy Bomber using @wildthingslearn Gingerbread activity bundle. We only had one lone parachute deliver the candy safely. (I’ll be honest... by the looks of it, I didn’t think it was going to be successful. But that baby glided the candy down and landed beautifully!) Students worked hard on perimeter and area tasks to earn tickets for items they will need to build their gingerbread house Wednesday. Ended this fabulous Monday with our faculty and staff Christmas party. I’m so blessed to get to work with the people I do and to get to teach the students I do. #grateful#gyto#setthestagetoengage
We wrapped up our learning on animal life cycles the first week of December and I forgot to post how proud I was of my kiddos. They gave incredible, detail-filled, informational speeches on their learning to our entire class with no fear. Also, our audience members were so silent and respectful that you could have heard a pen drop. I may have teared up and sobbed later. #myteacherheart#imnotcryingyourecrying#iteachsecond#setthestagetoengage#tnunitstarter
Today was Grinch Day at preschool and it was SO fun to see the kiddos faces as we ate our grinch snack, watched the original grinch cartoon, took pictures by a big giant grinch cutout and played a grinch game to recall parts of the story 💚😍💚😍 So in the spirit of grinch day I thought it would be fun to share a “grinch” diffuser blend for uplifting any grinchy moods 😉💚 ➕4 Drops Orange
➕3 Drops Frankincense
➕2 Drops Cedarwood
If you have the Desert Mist Diffuser, turn on with the green light mode to make it even more festive 😍
Another one of our Class of 2018 graduates, @math_with_ms.kauffeld at Pendleton ES, continues to blow my mind. She partnered with the 6th grade math teacher at La France ES to bring the game of Battleship to life for their students. With a little @google Hangouts magic, the classes had a chance to graph, compete, and sink ships. Truly an incredible way to maintain engagement during the antsy week before Winter Break!
Yes, this is the same Ms. Kauffeld who allowed me to join her in transforming the science lab into a crime scene for her students back in October (check out the pics). If you believe new teachers have to wait to use their #MAGIC , you're wrong. Megan is a great example of how to push yourself while learning the ropes and building the right connections to be great ASAP. Way to go, Megan!! #teachersfollowteachers#iteach#newteachers#preserviceteacher#getyourteachon#iteachmiddleschool#setthestagetoengage#teachersofinstagram
Oh what fun we had visiting Santa’s workshop at the North Pole today! It was a day filled with Christmas cheer, reindeer relays, blend gift bags, Santa letters, budgeting our Christmas list, shopping for toys and building a Christmas tree. #setthestagetoengage#bethewildcard#ivegotthemagic @courtycourt12
⭐️LIGHT UP THE ROOM⭐️
💥Classroom transformations- let’s talk about it! It’s been about three years since I did my first classroom transformation and let me tell you - like with anything- they get better (and easier) with experience! 😅🤷🏻♀️😍😏💪🏼🤗
💥Some of the transformations I’ve done are: the North Pole (most recently), growth mindset/construction theme (earlier this year), safari/jungle theme, handwriting fairy/magical, superhero theme, and camping theme! ⭐️✨✨✨
🤗Tips for doing your own class transformation: ✅Start with a mini transformation (pick a section of your class to cover or decorate)!🤗
✅Create a sign up genius that tells your parents your goals of the transformation and how it’s connected to their child’s learning!🤗
✅Ask for donations of materials and sweet treats/snacks to go along with the theme! I have had lots of success with this and it helps me to not be doing tons of out of pocket spending!🤗
✅Pick a Thursday night to transform your room. I like to hold my transformations on Fridays because (in my opinion) they are tiring! The students are extra excited as are you and I love going all in and then having the weekend to reset/relax and recover! 🙌🏼✨❤️😜
✅Have you done a classroom transformation before and if so what have you done?! Let me know below 👇🏼or tag someone who would find this helpful/inspiring ❤️🤗!
This may be my favorite room transformation yet! Our entire hallway has been turned into a NASCAR racetrack for the week! Today we learned some interesting facts about race cars and drivers, worked together (like a real pit crew) to solve a STEM challenge, and reviewed our place value skills while rotating through five different place value pit stops! More racing fun to come tomorrow! As always, thank you so much to @elementaryshenanigans and @stepintosecondgrade for the inspiration! #setthestagetoengage#bethewildcard#thirdgrade#iteachthird#teachersofinstagram#teachersofig

Ugly Sweater Day was a super success! Students worked out math problems and rolled dice to see what elements to add to their sweater design. They also wrote scripts and rocked the runway using strong verbs! #setthestagetoengage#bethewildcard#fourthgrade
Last Friday was so much fun! We had a PJ day and did a book exchange in class 📚Each student brought in a brand new book that was wrapped up like a present 🎁 The kids sat in a circle as I read Olive the Other Reindeer 🦌 Every time I said the word “Olive” students had to pass their book to the left! At the end, everyone opened up a brand new book that they got to take home 🙌🏼 I’m going to miss these sweet faces over break but I’m also going to enjoy not setting an alarm for 3 weeks! 😴
Are you on break? 🥳
Or powering through this week? 🥴
Let me know!
Well today as a teacher, I failed. Like legit failed each one of my students. I’ll be the first to tell you...I’m the farthest thing from perfect and I’m okay with that. Today I learned a hard lesson and had to swallow my pride.
A few weeks ago someone told me, “Don’t limit your future expectation on your past experiences”. Last week I was teaching my first graders something and had an ugly thought. “Man, I wish they were older, then they would get it.” (Yes, my thought should have been....change the way you teach it and they could get it.) Then this weekend I watched @truetalesofateacher instastory about #breakoutedu in the classroom. I laughed and thought. There is no way. My kids cannot do that. Then I woke up on Saturday and heard “when you limit someone you are a hindrance”. I began to repeat limit. Limit. Then I screamed oh my gosh! IM LIMITING MY KIDS. I limit my students because they are first graders. Then I knew I what I had to do. I knew my first graders deserved this. They deserve a chance to have every limit taken away. They deserve to soar. How dare I, the one who is suppose to give them tools to soar, bind them by my limitless attitude. NOT OKAY. So today my first graders did a breakout and KILLED IT. I’ve never seen them show team work, resilience, and excitement like today.
It is never okay to limit people! But we do it all the time. Oh, that’s a first year teacher....oh that child has autism...oh that’s a drug addict... oh that’s a single mom...oh that child has misbehaved everyday....oh that’s a young dad....oh....oh...oh IS NEVER ENOUGH TO LIMIT WHAT GOD CAN DO THROUGH AND FOR SOMEONE. If it wasn’t for a high school English teacher and others who took limits off of me, I would never be who I am today. We need to quit limiting those around us by what we see and we need to expect what we cannot not see. We serve a God with zero limits...but we tend to limit the people who serve Him. Today I had to eat a huge pride pill. I had to realize I was failing my kids because I placed limits on them.
I don’t know who you are limiting...but how dare you? People deserve people who encourage, push, and pave the way for their success.
I mean, the cuteness factor of this group was off the charts! Have you done a break out in your classroom? I answered a lot of questions in my stories today and showed you how I set up for a break out. Go check it out if you are wanting to try but needing a little extra help. I will turn it into a highlight story if you need to refer back to it as well. #setthestagetoengage
Four days left until break! 🎉 What activities do you have planned during this week? To keep students engaged and on task, we will be doing an escape room, creating ugly sweaters and creating Adobe Spark videos.
Really proud of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teams at Pettit. They did a unit on The Nutcracker and are ending the unit this week with room transformations. A lot of time and work went into making this happen! #setthestagetoengage#bethewildcard#901ohana
Just 5 going on 16... I am in LOVE with the way these ornaments turned out for our parent gifts! Swipe left to see 2 different ideas for the trees. I had the kids paint 6 popsicle sticks red and we went out to the playground to a little play car to capture them “driving”. We traced our hands and the kids cut the trees out themselves and decorated them to look like a 🎄. We give each parent a poinsettia but this is something that will last and be fun to pull out every year. This time of the year is overwhelming but so magical. I overheard my students telling each other how 🎅🏽 gets in to each of their houses on Christmas Eve. Do you do a parent gift? I would love to hear about it!
Venti coffees and Buddy the elf, that’s what the Monday before winter break was filled with. Well, that and constant chatter...
To help calm the chaos of this week I am having my students complete a holiday traditions flipgrid. I have a drafting sheet and rubric that will be posted for tonight’s 2nd day or freebies! Stay tuned ✨
Thanks @aperfectblendteaching for the adorable elf idea 💡
We have 3 more days until Christmas break starts! I have tired to fill our days with lots of fun games reviewing a bunch of skills from the past few weeks. I love escape rooms and my kids have done a couple different versions. What I love is this is self paced and has the fun “detours.” My kids loved the “detours.” Thanks @cootiesandcuties for a wonderful resource to help with these crazy last few days.
Also this resource came with math pages already for 2nd and a version to edit. I used half of the ones provided and the other half I made myself. .
Also youtube for fire burning and Christmas music is my favorite thing. I really thinks it helps calm the kids.
This paper is all crumpled and to some that might look like a problem. But to me...I just saw instant engagement in this activity as I gave them 1 minute to ball their papers up and have a snow ball fight. And boy did they work hard to get it complete and correct so they got to get another activity sheet for a 2nd snow ball fight! That’s right...they were asking for more work...two days before Christmas break!!! #setthestagetoengage#getyourteachon#evenrightbeforebreak#iteach5th#iteachtoo#instateacher#igotthis 💪
Today was SO much fun!! I’m gonna be honest—I do NOT want to be at school this week. So to make it a little more bearable, I’ve planned some pretty exciting activities for my class to complete this week so I can make it to Friday at 4:00. 🤞🎄❤️ Today for Monday Funday, we became elves working in Santa’s workshop and had to put together math puzzles for him. It kept them incredibly engaged and 90% of my class begged to have indoor recess just so they could continue! 👍🎉😍 Check it out in my InstaStory! #classroomtransformation#iteachmath#teacherlife
It’s not what you say to everyone else that has the most power, but rather what you whisper to yourself. We have learned to celebrate the success of others yet feel modest of our own. Many of us don’t lend the same level of grace to ourselves that we would to someone else. We read a lovely book to our students today about the importance of showing kindness to yourself, in addition to others. Tend to your thoughts with care dear friends. They have the power to grow weeds or flowers. 🌾🌻
Welcome to Skillsville! I took the Mathville resource by the amazing @truetalesofateacher and broadened the scope to include literacy and social studies skills. In these pictures you can see the math challenge developed by Kori, with some small modifications to meet the needs of my students. The math challenge focused on multiplication and division word problems, however my students needed multi-step problems. I loved her concept of the town where there are math word problems related to the town buildings. Also, her idea to include hands on manipulatives to help students visualize the word problems is GENIUS! Tomorrow I’ll post pictures and explain how I used Skillsville to focus on language arts, literature, and economics 💕😊 #setthestagetoengage#rockyourschool#bethewildcard
