Continuing on yesterday’s theme: I was listening to the radio the other day and a woman quoted an Afghan proverb that says “A river is made drop by drop”. I think we forget this sometimes and feel frustrated that big changes aren’t happening overnight. As long as we put our heads down and keep making little strides in the direction that we want to go, we can lift our gaze one day and see how far we’ve come. Keep grinding. 📸: my dad at Iguazu Falls.

It’s much easier to will yourself into staying present when you’re somewhere new, doing exciting things, traveling...HOWEVER, treating yourself well in the “slump” of normal life is a lot harder!! We aren’t being constantly stimulated, lending more opportunities to mindless doubts and anxieties we create in our own heads.😖 We turn boredom into self-criticism and judgement. Even if we wanted to look beyond ourselves by going on adventures 24/7, that’s not sustainable. There has to be some balance and stability...obviously this is quite the predicament.🤔
The solution, you may ask?
1️⃣ Don’t avoid your thoughts altogether. You can’t run away from them: you have to face them. 💪
2️⃣ Challenge those thoughts. Give them to God. Recognize that they hold no power over your reality. 🙌
3️⃣ Put attention toward wellness, whether that be self-care activities, prayer, spending time with loved ones, exercising, journaling...WHATEVER it is, come from a place of gratitude and love. 💛You deserve that.
So even if you’re not on the move or taking Insta-worthy trips 24/7, you can still find purpose in this present moment.☀️ “For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.” Romans 6:14🤟
Today, I’m grateful for studying my body. Not just because it’s a fascinating machine but because it lets me know when I’m out of alignment faster than my mind can. ⠀
It’s amazing what our bodies can tell us. ⠀
Try this: the next time you notice you’re feeling anxious or stressed, try to locate the sensation in your body. Do your thighs tighten? Do you clench your jaw?⠀
Keep noticing and tracking these sensations and you may be surprised what patterns arise. ⠀
Maybe you keep feeling stressed at work but during situations you “think” you should be enjoying yourself. ⠀

I have scarred up legs from tripping, strength training, running, kids. It’s not as visible due to the brightness edit but they’re there. I’ve never been one to hide them - for some reason, I’m more inclined to cover up scars elsewhere on my body. But these legs are my powerhouse. And what’s on them are my battle scars. I feel a little bit of empowerment with them. They’ve taken me through years of training and running even when my mind tells me I can’t. And I’m feeling pretty grateful they have treated me so well.
It doesn’t matter what size your legs are, where they’ve been, or what they’ve done but those legs can get you places. Sometimes we think that we can’t do something because our mind tells us so. Our mind is powerful. If it can tell you that you can’t do, it I can also tell you that you can. Change that internal dialogue if you want it because your legs will take you there. ❤️
