You’ve heard it before but I’ll say it again...
All right guys, it's time for some #realtalk . First off, I need to announce that sadly I have to postpone the art auction I had planned for October 27th. I'm honestly pretty bummed about it. I wanted to do this. But this year is one of my hardest years being an adult so far.... not only am I juggling work, friend time, trying to work out, trying to make time for self care, quiet time, art time, I also am trying to maintain my house and work on the business side of my art, and I have a husband and a puppy. It's a LOT. And sometimes it gets really overwhelming. 
I'm trying to balance everything the best I can... I've started scheduling things and putting my tasks on my calendar so I can make sure to get them done, and it works, but it feels pretty unnatural to me. 
I'm still learning to ask for help (I tend to try to do everything on my own) and make sure I have me time (when I'm overwhelmed, it's usually the first thing to go... and I need to monitor that). This week has been exceptionally interesting too since my hubby is in Czech Republic on a mission trip. So there's that. I miss him, but am also very proud of him. 
Honestly I often get in a headspace where I wish I didn't have all these responsibilities (especially housework). But I'm trying to remember what my therapist keeps telling me: 
That as an adult, I get to choose to take care of myself in these ways. I get to choose how clean I want my house to be. I get to choose which relationships to invest in. I get to choose to train my dog. I get to choose to do these things for myself, and I couldn't do this as a child.
And that's actually been helping.

You guys! My house is empty and I’m ALONE!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Self care is so very important and you can bet your buttons I’m going to take full advantage of this extremely rare opportunity! 💃🏻 I’m for sure going to watch all the Twilights, read all my books, ignore all the laundry, not clean a thing (because I don’t make the messes! 😂), paint (see @heatherchurch_fineart ), take a hot bath, eat my frozen diet Cherry Coke 🤤, and enjoy the silence. 
I mean, I can literally hear the CLOCK TICKING right now because SILENCE. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Sometimes a momma needs a recharge and that’s okay! How can you truly give and love those around you when your own tank is empty???
Self care can take 5 minutes (like locking yourself in the bathroom🤷🏻‍♀️), or an entire weekend alone. Just make sure to do a little each day and fill your cup too before it’s all empty.

SELFCARE. I hear that word a lot around here, especially since becoming a mom. Probably because moms are the worst at it. 🙋🏽‍♀️I was one of them. But things like anxiety, ppd, exhaustion, etc., can be helped with some self care. 
My girlfriend @meg_carole knows a lot about this kind of stuff, and I’ve found her account to be super helpful. Catch us tomorrow as we go live talking about how things like flower arranging, decorating your home, or maybe just being creative in general can actually be good for your mental health. Is your shame transferring?

Have you been able to let go of shame about your body, only to have it pop up again when you “mess up” at intuitive eating or “fail” to be totally accepting of your body?
•
This is normal, it happens all the time. And it’s because shame is routed in perfectionism - the intense need to be flawless in whatever ways you see as valuable.
•
If you are stuck in diet culture and value thinness and restriction, that is where you will see perfectionism and shame rear their ugly beads. If you value body acceptance and intuitive eating, perfectionism and shame can sneak in there too if you let it. This is super normal.
•
If you are experiencing this, please remember this beautiful fact: perfection isn’t necessary and doesn’t exist.
•
There is no such thing as “perfect” intuitive eating or body acceptance, and you don’t need to practice these things flawlessly in order to experience the benefits of them.
•
Intuitive eating and body acceptance are PRACTICES. Making mistakes, adapting to change, learning new things, and taking steps back are built into the definitions. Which is so freaking awesome!! It means we all have the freedom to live our lives and do our best without worrying about being punished for being human. The Body Acceptance Police aren’t going to come knocking on your door if you have a negative thought about your belly fat. The council of intuitive eating will not excommunicate you for making a food choice you end up regretting. Your job is to make choices, have experiences, and learn new things for next time. That’s it. No perfectionism required.
•
Know that if you have perfectionistic tendencies, they will keep popping up from time to time. But if you’ve dealt with them once, you can deal with them again. It’s the same monster in a different form. Sometimes it’ll look like your body or your job or your relationship or your ability to keep plants alive, or your skills at listening to your body. You will feel shame again, but it doesn’t have to define you and you will find a way to move past it if you keep trusting in yourself 💙

Sometimes it’ll look like your body or your job or your relationship or your ability to keep plants alive, or your skills at listening to your body. Self care tip: Practice regular relaxation

I know first hand how hard it can be to fit everything in when life gets SUPER busy but I promise if you squeeze in just 5-10 min of  stretching, yoga, pilates or meditation before starting your day, you'll find it will really help to reduce your stress levels.

I was angry for a long time after my breast cancer diagnosis, about where I thought my life was headed, all the work I had put into it and what I was going to accomplish and how it all got derailed. I was angry at my body and my situation AND I was getting nowhere. .

I didn’t have a choice, I had to start creating new boundaries around my energy, my heart, spirit and body. THIS IS self-care. .

Showing up for ourselves for this life, the life we have NOW is the only choice we have. It starts by being honest with yourself first, about how you REALLY are and what you really desire. .

I want you to say YES to yourself, to really hear what it is you need and realize just how powerful you TRULY are regardless of the circumstance. What do you need today, what is is it you truly desire, how can  you, take a single small action to support this desire or one giant leap if that’s more your style. .

Depression is hard. I get sick easily. It's so hard to find motivation sometimes. I miss creating things the way I used to. So I made slipper socks. Who gets to decide what's considered "normal"? What is "normal?" Is it being able to live without anxiety, depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder etc? If so I accept that I'm NEVER going to "normal" and I'm ok with it. From a young girl I was told I'm weird, different because of how I think. When signs of depression started to rear its head I was considered mad, mentally unstable by my own family. They still label me the "mad one" and that's fine. I have to look at them and wonder what's makes you so "normal?" If being "normal" means judging someone because of their mental state of mind I'm glad I ain't "normal." If being normal means labelling others through your own perception I don't want no part of it. Don't let society make you feel any less than you are, don't let society decide for you what's ok for you to be feeling. That anxiety, that depressive thought, your bipolar, your paranoia, your obsessive compulsiveness is FINE you are entitled to be that way. Those within our society that judge us, look down on us, tell us how we should feel they are weak and ignorant. We are stronger than all of them combined because we are not in their box of "normal" but yet we still live, we still smile, we still laugh and that scares them more than anything. They expect us to be broken and show we are broken but we don't. So continue on your journey, continue on your battle and forget trying to be "normal" just be ok with you.

Real life: two nights ago I didn't fall asleep till 2 am!! For some context: I'm usually asleep by 11, and may or may not be called a grandma for that. But grandma's are great so I'm fine with it. 👵🏻

It sucked. Tossing and turning, checking the clock and seeing it get later and later. I do NOT do well on less than 7 hrs of sleep (all the parents reading are like... "just wait..." lol). 😫

But honestly, I've struggled to get enough sleep (and restful sleep!) for as long as I can remember.  It's been a long journey with a lot of trial and error to finally get to a place where I'm getting those sweet, restful 8 hours consistently. But it still takes being very intentional.

I had planned to share with ya'll today a new blog post allll about what I've learned about getting good sleep. The irony isn't lost on me that I just had another terrible night. But it was a good reminder of how important sleep is and why talking about it is so important to me. 😴

BecauseI know first hand that sleep so so important for your health, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. But I also know I'm not the only one who has trouble with this, because 1 in 3 adults don't get enough of it. Yikes. 😲

So after that terrible night, I circled the wagon of the "tools" in my toolkit to help me get more sleep asap. The tips I'll be sharing with you are truly the things that have made all the difference for me. I've tried all of them at one time or another! sweet dreams! 💤
Real life: two nights ago I didn't fall asleep till 2 am!! For some context: I'm usually asleep by 11, and may or may not be called a grandma for that. But grandma's are great so I'm fine with it. 👵🏻 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It sucked. Tossing and turning, checking the clock and seeing it get later and later. I do NOT do well on less than 7 hrs of sleep (all the parents reading are like... "just wait..." lol). 😫 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But honestly, I've struggled to get enough sleep (and restful sleep!) for as long as I can remember. It's been a long journey with a lot of trial and error to finally get to a place where I'm getting those sweet, restful 8 hours consistently. But it still takes being very intentional. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had planned to share with ya'll today a new blog post allll about what I've learned about getting good sleep. The irony isn't lost on me that I just had another terrible night. But it was a good reminder of how important sleep is and why talking about it is so important to me. 😴 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ BecauseI know first hand that sleep so so important for your health, not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. But I also know I'm not the only one who has trouble with this, because 1 in 3 adults don't get enough of it. Yikes. 😲 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So after that terrible night, I circled the wagon of the "tools" in my toolkit to help me get more sleep asap. The tips I'll be sharing with you are truly the things that have made all the difference for me. I've tried all of them at one time or another! Take a 15 min coffee/tea or water vacation. Just put an alarm on your phone for a time you know you wont be interrupted for 15 minutes. When that alarm goes of put your phone down and make a nice cup of coffee. Then sit in a nice bright spot in your house and just sip your coffee and relax. You can read for 15 minutes or journal but try to make it a moment all about you. That tiny little 15 minutes will make all the difference and will give you that feeling of rejuvenation you need.

Nursing school was a stressful time for me, and I let it get the best of me. I remember trying so desperately to get back in shape but I never stuck with anything. I would go to the gym with a friend for a week, but never felt like I knew what I was doing there. I would try different fitness classes and then quit.

I felt like nothing was ever going to work and I just wasn’t meant for it. I honestly HATED working out back then.

Then one day I was invited to join an online fitness bootcamp. I was provided with personal trainers at my finger tips, hundreds of workouts options (so I didn’t get bored), all from the comfort of my home (going to the gym used to make me super anxious ps.) I even got meal plans with each program. But the biggest thing for me was that I had SUPPORT + ACCOUNTABILITY.

I started joining these groups more and more frequently, learning different self care principles, healthy eating tips, mindset shifts + how to incorporate healthy habits into my routine until it became second nature to me!

I’m so thankful that I said yes to that first group. Even if it meant using my moms DVDs until I could afford to buy the “Netflix” of workouts I have today!

And now I love that I get to pay it forward and run my own bootcamps! I’m so stoked to announce that our next Fall Fit Club kicks off November 12th! 🍂🍁 Registration opens Monday!! 😁

I almost opted out of yoga the other night because I wasn't feeling great. But I know that if I opt out one night I'm more likely to do it other nights, too. I did a short practice, and I'm so glad I did. Even a few minutes makes a world of difference.

Last night was lovely playing music 🎶 but often the late nights over shadow the healthy habits I’ve formed over time ( and I know A LOT of musicians struggle with being ) .

It’s easy to sleep in late and stay in bed watching tv. 
But it’s important to get outside to move my body to eat well and to continue to take care of this body. 💕 so here’s to taking care of my body so I can continue to do this for 50 more years!

But it’s important to get outside to move my body to eat well and to continue to take care of this body. 💕 so here’s to taking care of my body so I can continue to do this for 50 more years!

Whether you’re the type to get your nails done, put on a face mask, or go shopping, read a book, go to the gym, create art, etc., take time to love and care for yourself, not only physically but mentally too. Life can be a handful more times than some so never feel guilty for taking a moment to appreciate the strong and beautiful person that you are.
