And just like that... Crossing over 15 degrees North in the Red Sea and we're out of the Horn of Africa High Risk Area! The full outfit of the 08-12 and the 12-16 watches celebrating on the starboard bridge wing 😂
Also a sad day because it means our Greek security team has to get off. They've been riding with us for almost 3 weeks, since we picked them up off the coast of Sri Lanka. It's been awesome having them aboard.
It was an eerily quiet transit up through Bab El Mandeb (the "Gate of Tears") and past Jazirat al-Hanish al-Kabir, where recent attacks have been reported. We passed in the dead of night on my watch, no light from anywhere but our nav lights. No stars, no moon. I've read that fishermen have been hesitant to venture off of the coast for fear if being mistaken for Houthi rebels and fired upon by Saudi forces. So it was just us and a few ships southbound in the opposite TSS lane. Very surreal passing by so much turmoil untouched.
