🔊 play with the sound on. At the Sea Organ designed in the reconstruction of the WW II-torn Zadar coastline by the architect Nikola Bašić. Waves and wind resonate in a series of tubes under the marble steps where visitors sit. The stronger the wind, the louder the organ.
"Venezia non partorì mai, nella sua lunga e copiosa maternità, figliola più somigliante di questa, né più degna, né più devota. Zara è adorabile. Zara dovrebbe essere in cima ai pensieri di tutti gli italiani. Per il labirinto delle calli pittoresche formicola tanta festevole, graziosa e appassionata venezianità"
Ah, e c'è anche un organo marino.
Zadar’s incredible Sea Organ, set within the perforated stone stairs that descend into the sea is a system of pipes and whistles that exudes wistful sighs when the movement of the sea pushes air through it 🌊🎶
Sea Organ is situated on the western end of Zadar’s Riva, and can be observed as a differently shaped part of the coast which consists of several stairs that descend into the sea.
The organ looks like a series of broad steps leading down into the water, but there’s actually very clever engineering hiding under the surface. The lower steps allow water and air to flow in. That water and air is then funneled into resonant chambers under the steps, and pushed out through the channels on the upper stairs, seen here. These cause the undulating, chime-like notes to be produced. Because the sea is always shifting and changing, the sea organ never sounds exactly the same twice. Each sound you hear is completely unique.
The stairs extend for about 70 meters along the coast, under them, at the lowest sea-tide level, 35 pipes of different lenght, diameter and tilts were built in vertically to the coast and they raise aslant until the paved part of the shore and end in a canal (a service corridor). On the pipes there are LABIUMS (whistles), which play 7 chords of 5 tones. Above the canal there are perforated stone stairs through which the sound comes out, the air pushed by the sea.
Unique ♥️ An architectural sound art object which is an experimental musical instrument which plays music 🎼🎼🎼🎼by the way of sea waves 🌊 and the tubes located underneath a set of large marble steps.
So this is the start for my new horror movie.... just kidding it’s the sea organ in Zadar Croatia! How creepy is it in the rain?! Unfortunately it’s the only peice of footage I have of it as the storm was moving in fast and seconds after I finished videoing it was an absolute downpour and had to find cover quick! Nearly 2 hours later under a cafe umbrella!!! Talk about bloody dramatic! Eventually it calmed for a few minutes and we made a break for it!!!! If you get the chance while your here to have a visit, you should! Worth it all be it a bit creepy but it was very relaxing and in the summer time and low tide, the engineering of the things is wonderful! Next to the organ is a light show used by solar power, some say it’s a gift from the Croats to the sun herself! Wich I didn’t get to see due to it being daytime and storming but I’ve heard it’s stunning! #croatia#zadar#seaorgan#lightshow#solarpannels#creepyvibes#spooky#horrormovieintro#motherson#familycantravel#realisticview#traveling#beauty#engineering
