A stretch you SHOULD do especially if you sit all day. Lie on your back on a padded surface. Begin with your legs straight in front of you. Bend the left leg up and place the left foot on the ground near your butt. Bend the right leg up and rest the right ankle across the left knee.
Reach your hands around your left shin or left thigh and pull it towards your chest. Your right hand will go through the hole in between your legs.
Pull and hold the left leg, feeling the stretch in the right hip flexor. Slowly, place the left leg back on the floor and switch sides.

Finding a balance between strength and flexibility can be difficult to navigate. Sticking to a good mobility and stretching routine can do wonders for your overall flexibility. Another good way to work on your flexibility is to get conscious about your typical movement patterns throughout your day. ⠀

Our bodies function best when given a lot of variety and different input, however we tend to get stuck in our ways when it comes to our daily movement patterns. We're moms, we can't help it, we love a good routine. This week I want you to start making yourself aware of how you move in your day to day life. When standing in line at the grocery store do you tend to always place more weight in one foot than the other? When you put on your coat do you always start with the same arm? When you are relaxing at the end of the day do you always sit in the same spot, leaning to the same side? Start to just bring awareness to these things this week, let me know what you notice!

Struggling on the work out front lately. Lost muscle mass and pounds. I have struggled with lower back pain and sciatica since I was 14 years old. I had back surgery at 16 years old. It’s almost guaranteed the day after I work out, I can’t stand up straight. Inhale diaphragmatic breath, exhale engage your core as you press your palms into the floor lifting your bum off of the floor. As you depress your shoulder blades towards your mat you should start to feel some engagement in the muscles at your mid back below your shoulder blades. ⠀

Piriformis Stretch - for back pain & sciatica.

The piriformis is a very important gluteal muscle, and it is prone to being tight. Generally speaking, in young people, piriformis tightness results from overexertion. In old people, it results from excessive sitting or prolonged immobility. 
Sciatica is a symptom and not a disease on its own, and it occurs when pressure is put directly on the sciatic nerve in some way.

I’ve changed... I have decided to retire from heavy lifting till next year.... T-18days

In the mean time... I started doing Yoga in the mornings.

Yo, this yoga thing is way harder than it looks. 
Right now, I am a level 1 inflexible big body... lol. .
It has really helped in the past week with my sciatica pain though.
Stretching the piriformis muscle has significantly reduced the inflammation around my sciatic nerve.
.
Hats off to all the #yogis out there. I respect your craft.
This has really shown me that I need to stretch more often. I’m as flexible as a steel beam right now lol. .
So far my favorite Yoga positions are the corpse position and the Cobra.
.
Try out a new form of exercise every now and then to change it up.
I’m gonna stick with this for the rest of the month to fully recover.
Give this yoga thing a try yourself. Felt super weird in the beginning but I’m starting to find enjoyment in the stress relief.

This lady came in in a lot of pain. I initially used Battlefield Acupuncture to reduce her pain (after two needles she could stand more easily and more upright). She was in such a pain cycle that the muscles were hypertonic, this meant she couldn’t even tolerated the lightest massage. I used acupuncture to her lumbar muscles to sedate and reduce tone in this area. After this and some soothing hot stones, I was eventually able to apply more pressure to this area to ease the tension and increase her mobility.  She will need some follow up sessions to make a long term impact but such a good result for this initial session. 🎄☕️❤️ The last week has been an absolute emotional roller coaster for me, but I’m grateful to have friends who’ll take pictures on a good day to remind myself they have happened and that they will happen again! 💃🏻 I really noticed my mood was very low and my suicidal thoughts very loud after my medication increase. This isn’t uncommon. In the first 2 weeks of antidepressant use you should be really mindful of this and plan for people to be around you and to keep yourself safe. ❤️ Despite knowing this I had another relapse in self-harm, but I bounced back by using other coping mechanisms I’ve been working on. Recovery is not linear, but getting back on the road is so much easier if you radically forgive yourself for slip-ups. They happen, don’t dwell on them, learn from them, keep going. 🏃🏻‍♀️ I also went to my first ever ADHD support group meeting. It honestly gave me so much hope, inspiration and confidence. To be in a room of people who just GET you, who understand those frustrating Little everyday struggles than can build up, to hear people speak the exact thoughts you’d been thinking for years - it was honestly wonderful and a complete breath of fresh air. 🌻
 I know my Depression is on as I’m not really looking forward to Christmas, when usually I adore the holiday. Still I’ve been Christmas shopping and though my sciatica flared after it, it was nice to think how these little presents would bring the people in my life I love some joy. 💕
 Hope everyone’s week has been at least manageable and you’ve been able to take some positives from whatever’s been going on in your life. ❤️
