If you can bear to leave Koufonissia you can find even quieter, more laidback islands just a short ferry ride away.
This is the main harbour on the dreamy island of Schinoussa where you’ll really feel as if you’ve gone back in time. This is an island virtually untouched by tourism. Just walk up the hill from the harbour and you’ll come to the island’s main village, all whitewashed buildings and tiny streets. From here you can make your way to one of the island’s 18 beaches where you can hang up your clothes in the branches of a tamarisk tree and go for a swim before a delicious lunch in a beachside taverna.
Sound good? Take a look at my post about Schinoussa on the blog. Link in my profile.

Have you ever dreamed of finding an island in Greece that few other people have heard of? An island that has all the key elements of the famous islands of the Cyclades (the white-cubed houses, the pretty harbour, the blue-domed churches) but without the crowds?
I’m going to let you into a secret. We’ve found an island that is virtually untouched by tourism. A place that’s world’s away from the crowds on Santorini and Mykonos. An island where selfie sticks are virtually unheard of. This place is called Schinoussa and it’s in the Small Cyclades, a group of four inhabited islands that feel like an insider secret.
I’ve written all about our day trip to Schinoussa in my latest blog post. Link in my profile.
