I needed a better axe to cut all the firewood to keep the shop warm. Luckily I have a cache of heads and handles. This is my great grandfather’s vintage True Temper flint edge hung on a 36” hickory haft.

In September, just as I finished up my guiding season, my good friend Colten was coming down from Alaska where he had been working for the summer. After a couple of phone calls and weather report checking, we decided to meet in Stanley, ID and have a go at climbing the Elephant's Perch.
We took a boat across Redfish Lake and hiked few miles up to the 'Perch. I had heard good things about this place and it did not disappoint. We climbed the Direct Beckey (5.11, 12 pitches), what an incredible route! Sustained, superb climbing the whole way up until the last pitch or two, where we got exceedingly lost just as the sun went down.
After an hour or so of searching for a way through, we finally topped out. We managed to onsight the descent in the dark which I was very thankful for and then crashed hard. Really happy I was able to get on this amazing formation and I'd love to get back again soon! #120mm#fujivelvia#elephantsperch @featheredfriends1972
