⭐️Product Absorption⭐️..
Most people associate products getting into the body with absorption -- how quickly will this lotion absorb into my dry skin? But there's a lot more to consider when using beauty products.
When thinking about how chemicals enter the body, there are three main ways:
• Ingestion
• Inhalation
• Absorption

Even though we aren't intentionally ingesting our beauty products, there are some that definitely make their way into our mouths. Who hasn't heard the statistic that women eat 7 pounds of lipstick in their lives? 🤯. I have no idea if this is true, but there is no question I eat everything from lipstick to lip gloss to lip conditioner. And when I apply skincare to my face, I'm pretty sure some of that cleansing balm ends up getting past my lips. Are your products safe enough to eat?

Chemicals that enter the body via inhalation or absorption hit the blood stream before reaching the liver. That means those chemicals circulate throughout your body FIRST. Here’s the kicker, there isn’t much (if any) research on what the chemicals do when mixed together once inside your body. So when you spray your hair spray or breathe in when you're applying loose powders, 🤔 you are inhaling those ingredients and sending them to your blood stream.

And think about all those products we rub on our skin -- deodorant, lotion, makeup, etc. We like to think of the skin as a barrier, but it is actually much more like a sponge 🧽. 📌Your body actually has more protective mechanisms for chemicals that are ingested. We may be concerned about eating organic or clean foods, but what we put on our skin, every single day, is just as important if not, more so. 💭 So think about that the next time you're getting ready in the bathroom. You are ingesting, inhaling. or absorbing a whole lot of stuff! And that's why it's important to choose safer.

⭐️Fragrance⭐️.
Now that I understand the possibilities behind the word "fragrance", it makes me straight up CRAZY.

I used to pick out the most aromatic stuff at the bath stores in the mall. And then I would buy EVERYTHING in that scent -- lotion, body spray, hand soap, and hand sanitizer with the little plastic thing so you could hang it on your purse like an accessory. You know you had it, too!
But then I started cleaning up my personal care products and now can't do most fragrances AT ALL. Now my nose picks “fragrance” smells like a
speedster.
Walking down laundry aisle or one step inside public bathroom that use those wall thingy makes my nose twitch. Fragrance makes my head hurt, and I also feel woozy and just plain weird when I'm subjected to strong fragrances.
But clearly I'm not alone since fragrances are now being called "The New Second Hand Smoke." Fragrance is a generic term many of us don't really give much thought to ... I mean, it sounds good, right? I like stuff that smells like apple pie or Christmas. But those fragrances can be incredibly detrimental to our health.
📌Because ingredients in cosmetics in the U.S. are not regulated, many companies use fragrance as a way to mask other chemicals. It's considered a trade secret in the beauty industry, a loophole for companies to hide ingredients that many would find alarming. The "fragrance" you see on the labels of your personal care products can include dozens and dozens of different chemicals! And personal care companies do NOT have to disclose the chemicals because they are protected under this law.
📌As reported by the EWG, up to 72% of products with fragrance include phthalates. These nasty little compounds are linked to cancer, hormone disruption, ADHD, diabetes, and more. And don't assume that a product labeled "fragrance-free" is safe either, because many companies use other chemicals to mask the fragrance already added.
📍It sounds so depressing, doesn't it? Is it a lost cause? Do we just give up on trying to find safer stuff? I'm pretty sure you know what my answer is.
When it comes to safer fragrance, PURE essential oils are your best bet. [continues in comment].....

HERE'S THE DEAL.
Until our laws are more stringent and protective, it’s up to us to find the safest options. Get to know the brands you use, seek out full transparency, find out if they are taking measures to safely source ingredients and conduct their own tests for safety.
Beautycounter is not the only option out there! In fact, we strive for a time when all companies are held to higher standards so safety isn’t an issue. But for the time being, I find it to be the safest out there. And that’s the main reason I partnered up with this mission-based company.

⭐️Greenwashing⭐️.
When it comes to choosing safer products, do you look for labels that include words such as natural, botanical, chemical-free, organic, or toxin-free? I know I used to, because HELLO... those things sound safer and healthy
I mean, look at this sunscreen -- "Pure. Free. Naturally sourced ingredients. #1 Dermatologist recommended". It has to be safe, right?

Unfortunately, these words are no guarantee for safety. Because there are so many loopholes in federal laws, cosmetic and personal care companies can claim all the good words they want on their products without proper regulation.
Those terms that we are drawn to are actually meaningless for the most part. And there’s an actual term for this practice — GREENWASHING.
Labels are meant to draw our attention, so of course companies are going to use words based on marketability. Which doesn’t always mean they are bad — we just cannot only depend on words that sound good.
So what’s a person to do? Well, we have to be educated, know what these terms mean, and seek out companies that are transparent with ALL of their ingredients.
These are the five most common, yet misleading terms in the beauty industry:
—————
📌Natural- what does it mean if you see “natural” on a label? Legally, nothing, since the FDA doesn’t regulate it. It may mean that all, or a certain percentage of a product’s ingredients are mineral or plant-based, rather than synthetic. To find out the level of a brand’s commitment to being natural, look for third-party certifications by the Natural Products Association, NaTrue, BDIH, and EcoCert. These organizations’ standards have a lot of overlap, but their requirements do vary, so checking their websites are your best bet.

You can also download the Skin Deep App by EWG and scan the product bar code OR enter individual ingredients to check for safety.. —————
📌Organic- The FDA doesn’t regulate the term “organic” on cosmetic product labels. In order for brands to leverage the popularity of the term for more marketability, the front of their labels may inaccurately represent how much of the product is, in fact, organic. [continues in comment]....

⭐️Endocrine Disruptors⭐️ Have you heard of endocrine disruptors before? I feel like this is a term that gets thrown around and we think we know what it means, but honestly we really don't understand the intricacies of it all.

You may remember learning in biology class that our bodies are run by a network of hormones and glands that regulate everything we do, this network is called the Endocrine System. A lot of times, people think about the endocrine system in the terms of just the sex hormones, puberty, and that time of the month. BUT the endocrine system actually plays a role in all phases of development, metabolism, and behavior. It is a delicate system of checks and balances and our bodies work REALLY hard to keep it in balance. And most of us have endocrine systems that are all kinds of jacked up. Sorry, but it's true.

Unfortunately, our world is filled with junk that can throw our delicate systems out of whack pretty easily. Synthetic chemicals in products like plastics and fragrances can mimic hormones and interfere with or disrupt the endocrine balance. These are known as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC’s). We’re exposed to these chemicals daily, and we’re especially vulnerable to them during phases of critical development, such as development in the womb and growing children.
So what can we do? Lots of things, which is really good news.

Tips to avoid EDC’s:
📌Wash your hands, especially before eating! Try to avoid antibacterial soaps as well as fragrances and dyes in your soaps. Y'all know I'm the crazy person who carries hand soap in her purse.
📌Dust and vacuum often-many products come with flame retardants and it gathers in your household dust as well.
📌Avoid anything with fragrance unless it’s scented with essential oils. This includes: soaps, detergents, “scented” cat litters, air fresheners, candles, and the list goes on and on.
📌Avoid plastics as much as possible-they contain phytates (an EDC). Use glass or metal containers to store food, swap plastic bags for paper or reusable containers that aren’t plastic.
📌Avoid canned foods as much as possible. Food cans are often lined with BPA. [continues in comment]....

Get your skin checked! Have I told you my story as to why I'm a believer? I had a suspicious mole that I got checked by a dermatologist. She did a full body exam. She said I was good to go!

I remember postingon Facebook, "Yay! Cancer free! Phew! I was so sure I wasnt." 5 momths later, we got orders to move states and we left our beautiful home kicking and screaming to our next post.
3 months later, a friend posted a blog of her friend, 37 years old, who had chronicled her last year of life.
It wigged me out. I sought out a dermatologist in our new digs. She took one look at that "not cancerous at all" mole and said, "That comes out TODAY." Friends, she called me the next week with the results.
Melanoma in situ. "The good news is, we will go back in and make sure we got it all. So I don't need to involve an oncologist just yet, and may not even have to. We may have caught it just in time." And sure enough, we had.
What saved me from years of cancer treatment? That blog? Intuition? Moving? Luck? Dr C, my derm?

I had not only those questions, but also, what caused it?! I won't know on this side of heaven, but I do know it's set me on a path of seeing where I do need to be more careful with what I put on my skin, in my home's air cycle, what I clean with... what my kids are exposed to, even my husband... the whole shebang.
And so, go get your skin checked.
And if you have done research and KNOW the Dr must be wrong, like I did, seek out a 2nd opinion.
GET YOUR SKIN CHECKED!!

⭐️Heavy Metals⭐️
What do you think about when you hear the words "heavy metals"? I used to think about dental fillings, lead paint, and vaccines.... And then I started diving into the world of natural health when I was going through stress induced normal imbalance... and WHOA. The topic of heavy metals is a big deal. There are concerns about metals in dishes, food, supplements, toys, paint, dental amalgams, and so much more… INCLUDING MAKEUP.
——————
🚩WHY ARE HEAVY METALS A CONCERN?
Many heavy metals have been demonstrated to be harmful to humans. The metals lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic pose some of the biggest risks to health. The effects of heavy metal exposure can include lowered IQ, neurological effects, cancer, headaches, extreme irritability, and kidney, lung and heart damage. Yeah, none of that is good
🚩WHAT HEAVY METALS HAVE BEEN FOUND IN COSMETICS?
Mercury has been found in skin whitening cream.
Lead, cadmium, chromium, manganese, and aluminum have been found in lipsticks and glosses (this is actually very common, some in very unsafe levels).
In all kinds of color cosmetics, heavy metal contamination has been discovered. You won’t see heavy metals on an ingredient list because they are not added intentionally … they just tag along with the pretty colors. Heavy metals are inherently in the earth, which is why sourcing is incredibly important.

Regulation of the beauty industry is basically non-existent. Remember that the U.S. federal government hasn't passed a law to regulate ingredients in beauty products since 1938.
So how do you find cosmetics without heavy metals?? Well, no product can guarantee the complete absence of heavy metals. But you can purchase from a company that is sourcing ingredients WITHOUT contamination and then TESTING to be sure the heavy metal levels are significantly below the legal limits. —
📍In Beautycounter's case:
We test every production batch of every color 3 times — every time we produce it!
We test for 12 heavy metals: antimony, arsenic, barium, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, lead, mercury, nickel and selenium. [continues in comment]

⭐️SOURCING⭐️ I know I throw the word "safer" around quite a bit, but what does that even mean???
When it comes to cosmetics, we often equate the term "natural" with safe, but those terms do not necessarily mean the same thing. The two most important things to define here are SOURCE and SAFETY, two things I never gave any thought to until the past few years.. ✅SOURCE – where an ingredient is from (e.g. is it natural, plant-derived, or synthetic?)..
✅SAFETY – an ingredient's potential to impact health..
Beautycounter categorizes SOURCE of each ingredient in three ways: 🎍Natural: produced by nature, without human intervention (for example – essential oils)...
🌴Plant-derived: came from a plant, but has had some kind of chemical manufacturing process (for example – raw coconut oil processed into a coconut-based surfactant, which creates lather in the product) ⚗️Synthetic: made in a laboratory, and often comes from fatty acids, alcohols, and ingredients derived from oil or gas (for example – panthenol, a form of vitamin B, used safely in cosmetics is often a synthetic alcohol)

The source of the ingredient does not determine its safety because not all natural ingredients are safe, and not all synthetic ingredients are unsafe! (Seriously you should read that sentence again…)
SAFETY simply asks “does the ingredient in question have the potential to harm a person’s health, and if so, in what way and at what levels?” As we know, this is more than just measuring acute reactions (such as if an ingredient irritates skin or eyes); it’s about LONG TERM HEALTH.
Something incredibly important to keep in mind is that the terms “safe” and “natural” and "pure" are not regulated by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), and there is no agreed upon definition of either term in the cosmetics industry. Companies often use ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ verbiage on their labels, but those descriptions are nothing more than really great marketing tools.
For example, a product could contain a pure heavy metal (which is natural and of the Earth), but is by no means SAFE for you to use on your body. Label reading of ingredients and/or utilizing EWG.org/skindeep is always ....[continues in comment

🌴Plant-derived: came from a plant, but has had some kind of chemical manufacturing process (for example – raw coconut oil processed into a coconut-based surfactant, which creates lather in the product) ⚗️Synthetic: made in a laboratory, and often comes from fatty acids, alcohols, and ingredients derived from oil or gas (for example – panthenol, a form of vitamin B, used safely in cosmetics is often a synthetic alcohol) The source of the ingredient does not determine its safety because not all natural ingredients are safe, and not all synthetic ingredients are unsafe! (Seriously you should read that sentence again…) SAFETY simply asks “does the ingredient in question have the potential to harm a person’s health, and if so, in what way and at what levels?” As we know, this is more than just measuring acute reactions (such as if an ingredient irritates skin or eyes); it’s about LONG TERM HEALTH.

⭐️Banned Ingredients/The Never List⭐️ When I first made the commitment to really switch over my personal care products, I just went to the natural counter at a local grocery store and tried a bunch of stuff. I figured that was my best bet. I knew that there were safer products out there, but I also assumed there was stronger regulation and safety standards for all products on our shelves. I just didn’t know any better.
And even though I was choosing better by stocking up on products at the local natural market, I wasn't truly educated. Just because it’s in an organic natural aisle doesn’t mean it’s safe or healthy. It’s kinda like the Cookie Butter at Nutter's — that’s not a health food, my friends. So I was still using stuff that had a lot of questionable ingredients, to include parabens and phthalates and fragrance. Because the United States/Canada allows most of these ingredients to be in our products despite the fact that they are connected to many disturbing health issues.
1400 in the European Union.

600 in Canada.

30 in the US.
Beautycounter chooses to exclude over 1500 ingredients from their products because they are possibly harmful and toxic to the body. (This is known as The Never List, and you can print out a version to keep in your wallet for quick reference.) That's 500 times more than this country requires.

A 2 billion dollar industry is governed by 1.5 pages of legislation.

Companies are not required to disclose the ingredients in their products.

I think that is messed up, We deserve better!.

⭐️Transparency⭐️
What does transparency mean? To me, it means that a company is sharing 100% of their ingredients, process, and the source of their raw materials. I used to just take stuff at face value until I understood that companies often hide ingredients behind seemingly pleasant sounding words (like fragrance), so I'm a total skeptic about anything less than complete transparency. I feel like if I'm buying a product, putting it in or on my body, I have a right to know what's in it.
—————
It's a major RED FLAG 🚩 to me when I can't track down the ingredients in products.
🚨In foods you often see words like ”Spices” and “Natural Flavorings”. In products you put on your skin, you often see words like “Parfum”, and “Fragrance”. Due to what is known as "Trade Secret" legislation, those ingredients could be a lot of really gnarly stuff. Legally, we just don’t always know what toxic chemicals are hiding behind vague labels. They aren’t required to disclose any ingredients. If a company doesn't want to comply, I can move on and find somewhere else to spend my money.
——————
Luckily, the tides are changing and more and more companies are making transparency a top priority. But we need ALL companies to be doing this, which is another reason I have such admiration for Beautycounter. We are fighting to get legislation so all companies are held to higher standards of safety. Beautycounter came about after the founder, Gregg Renfrew learned that the personal care products industry is extremely under-regulated, and that companies aren’t required to tell consumers what is in the products they sell. She wanted to offer better, safer products while bringing transparency back to beauty. Cleaner, better beauty can only begin when you know what’s in your products. All of the ingredients Beautycounter uses when formulating products, including all known components of fragrances that traditionally fall under the words “fragrance” or “parfum” are fully disclosed on the website. ⭐️History of the Personal Care Product Legislation⭐️..
Did you know the last piece of major legislation in regards to the Personal Care industry was in 1938? for the United States which was instigated because a woman went blind from a mascara product.

Canada, on the other hand, is far ahead than the US when it comes to safety laws with 600 banned ingredient list but the list itself cannot be legally challenged as it is not codified in current law also, Canada has the FRAGRANCE loop-hole just like the states.

Now some history;.
⚫️1906: We see the start of the FDA as part of the Pure Food and Drug Act..
⚫️1933: A woman by the name of Mrs. Brown bought a product called Lash Lure. Over the course of a few months, her corneas started to deteriorate and she eventually went blind. In the same year, The FDA put together an exhibit nicknamed The Chamber of Horrors, showcasing food and personal products that had been preserved with toxic chemicals..
⚫️1937: Elixir Sulfamide came to market. Sulfamide was a commonly used pill that treated minor ailments. But in an effort to make it drinkable (taste good), the manufacturer added Diethylene Glycol. Also known as ANTI-FREEZE. The product was tested for shelf life, ease of shipping, and flavor. But it was NEVER TESTED FOR TOXICITY. Within 1 month, over 100 people died, most of them children. ⚫️1938: President Roosevelt is forced to pass the Food, Drug, and Cosmetics Act of 1938.

But then...PROGRESS. World War II and the chemical revolution, over 85,000 chemicals ve been introduced into commerce but less than 10% of these have been tested for safety on humans.Ingredients like mercury, coal tar, formaldehyde, parabens, phthalates, allergens, and pollutants! We know just by looking at this list that these ingredients ARE NOT SAFE. But they are said to be “safe enough.” WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!? Safe enough for who? Me? My children?? —————————-
Are you surprised by any of this? I think what upsets me the most is the lack of awareness-- so the best we can do is be educated, share this knowledge, and vote with our dollars to show that this is a subject that matters greatly to us!

⭐️Welcome to 12 Days of Safer Beauty Education!⭐️ As a Beautycounter consultant, I hear about safer beauty education every day … and I forget that the majority of the people haven’t been educated about this topic. In fact, the latest statistic I heard is that only 20% of US consumers are aware that there are potentially harmful ingredients in products. And even then, most people don’t understand what that really means.

So over the next 12 days, I will be sharing some topics of safer beauty education that will equip you with usable knowledge so you can be a better advocate for yourself and your loved ones.
Because the truth is it is up to us. The US beauty industry is valued at 66 billion dollars, and it is shockingly unregulated. And the FDA has the equivalent of just 6 full-time inspectors to monitor 3 million shipments of cosmetics coming in each year. In Canada we have similar loopholes with inspections and restrictions were CEPA cannot regulate all issues associated with chemicals and the risk they pose.

So it’s time for us to be the inspectors.🚨 In preparation for the next 11 days, I’m going to give you a little bit of homework:.
🎄Download the EWG app on your phone so you can investigate products and search ingredients..
🎄Count up the number of personal care products you use every day. And don’t forget toothpaste and soap! The average woman uses 12 products which contain 168 chemicals..
🎄Lastly, I have a challenge for you today! Count the number of personal care products that you use everyday (things like lotions, toothpaste, hair products, soap, perfume, body wash, makeup etc). How many do you use? .
💕Please share your number below!
I use between 9-15 (depending on if I do my makeup etc).

Soaked up some sun (the safer way) this afternoon and filled a bag with trash we found on the beach 😥 (in support of #bluefriday 🌊). Giving is a wonderful feeling, but the over-abundance of trash, waste and excess that occurs around the holiday season is significantly greater than any other time of the year.
Did you know that 8,000 tons of wrapping paper are used during the holiday season...equating to over 50,000 trees?? 🎁🌲 This year I challenge you to be more thoughtful and conscientious of the things you buy...where are they sourced, is the packaging recycled or recyclable, does the company give back to the community in any way? Consider making your own wrapping paper using brown paper bags (I’m going to have the kids decorate the paper!) and hopefully every extra bit of unneeded excess we keep out of the oceans and landfills will make a small but notable difference! 🌎

Going somewhere warm this winter? Try out @beautycounter’s Countersun mineral sunscreen!
Benefits:
✅Air Powered, NOT aerosol
✅Sprays at any angle
✅Reef friendly (aka wont damage coral reefs)
✅Safer for your skin

I used this stuff in Cuba last winter and my pasty skin didn’t get burned once! Also I’ve had a bottle of the spray sunscreen for the whole Summer, let friends use it constantly, and there’s STILL some left. So it lasts way longer than the aerosol kind!
Message me if you’d like more details!

We live in Southern California and it’s photos like this of my little guys that remind me why we love it so much. The beach!
Sunscreen is obviously very important for us, but my kids really don’t love putting it on, like ever. That’s why I love that @beautycounter has three different kinds: spray, stick and lotion. The stick is the only thing they’ll let me use on their face, the spray for when I’m chasing them down and the lotion for the rare occasion they’ll actually sit still so I can apply 😂. Safer sunscreen that actually works = a win for mom! (Check out the Countersun collection on the link in my profile) .

SAFER SUNSCREEN TO KEEP MY SKIN CLEAR🌞
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I get a lot of questions about how I was able to heal my skin of chronic cystic acne, acne scars, and severe melasma, and also how I keep them from coming back.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It takes working on things internally + externally. When it comes to melasma and/or acne scars, sunscreen is a must to keep them from getting darker.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s one product that goes with me everywhere and yes, I use it even during these colder months AND on cloudy days!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I recommend sticking with a good zinc based sunscreen like my Countersun here☀️, which blocks UVA + UVB rays plus Countersun also blocks blue light rays🌀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
DID YOU KNOW that the blue light from your electronics (phone, tv, computer) have been shown to cause the same premature aging + pigmentation as UVA rays?! All sunscreens are not created equal...make sure the one you’re using is safe + effective at blocking all three types of rays🌞

Moms, when you are feeling like your battery is running low, you NEED to recharge. If we are not well, rested then we are doing the biggest disservice to our little ones. (and big kids too) Recognizing when to stop and ask for help is so important. Personally, it is hard for me to do, but after recognizing when I needed reinforcements and when to tap out, it made my days much easier. 🔋

A little over 40 years ago, my mother used cloth diapers. I cannot understand why today why aren’t using them more. Modern moms are far more savvy and more concerned with the environment...yet we use regular diapers. I got to thinking, as I was also guilty myself. I used reusable/cloth for swimming and potty training. There are many wonderful cloth diapers on the market. I really like @thirstiesinc
Thirsties' has adorable prints and colors. I LOVE their Outdoor Adventure Collection. Cloth diapers are very easy to clean and reuse. Try it out and see for yourself. .

Love this!! Remember that we are all in this together. The biggest hurdle as a new mom is support. We need mom friends to help us. Pick us up when we are down and encourage us through the New Mom Lifestyle.
Trying to make new mom friends can be difficult and overwhelming. Remember that when meeting other moms, we are all going through the same emotions, struggles and high lows of Motherhood.
During the first few months of having my son, in New York City, I met the most amazing mothers — Supportive, kind, genuine and all together beautiful souls. (Too many to tag here.) It felt so good to know that all the woman had a very good sense of motherhood and helped one another with anything that came their way. My mother became sick and passed away on my 40th birthday. During the last few days of her life, several of my mommy friends went above and beyond to reach out to help my family in so many ways. They treated me as though we had been friends for 20 years. I am forever grateful for their kindness and friendship.
So when you’re at a coffee shop or walking on the street, never be afraid to say hello to a new mom. She could really use the friendship. It is essential in Motherhood. 👶🏽👩🏽🤱🏽👭❤️

Hawaii is like a second home 🏝 to me and I’m SO PROUD to announce they have taken the first step to be the first state in the U.S. to ban sunscreens with chemicals that harm nature. 👏👏👏 Did you know that about 14,000 tons of sunscreen end up in coral reefs worldwide? And many of these popular sunscreen brands contain #oxybenzone and #octinoxate, chemicals that are found to damage - sometimes kill - fragile coral reef systems? Oxybenzone, which is found in more than 3,500 skin care products, is effective for protecting skin from damaging sun rays. However, a 2015 study revealed that the chemical is toxic to developing coral and increases the coral’s susceptibility to bleaching. “The chemical not only kills the coral, it causes DNA damage in adults and deforms the DNA in coral in the larval stage, making it unlikely they can develop properly,” researchers wrote in the study of the chemical’s effect on reefs in Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This in another reason why advocating change in personal care products is not only important for YOUR health, but for the health of the environment as well. I made the change for my family’s health and for my children to continue to have the opportunity to experience the amazing wonders of this earth. Our sunscreen products do not contain these chemicals - we use alternate ingredients such as non-nano zinc oxide which are just as effective as oxybenzone, and don’t have the same negative impacts on the environment and humans. Check out our sunscreen products in my link in the bio. #beautycounter #saferbeauty #betterbeauty #safersunscreen #bettersunscreen #hawaii #hawaiisunscreenban #purchasewithknowledge #savetheenvironment #savecoralreefs #nonnanozinc #protecttheearth 📸: Baby #3 soaking up the sun in #Kapolei, #Hawaii #sexycurves #beautyqueen #beautyguru #girltime #fitnesslifestyle #beautyaddict #fitness #beautysalon #modellife #beautybloggers #fitnessgirl #girlpower

I love my hamsa. I’ve carried one on my key chain for over 10 years with hope to be protected from evil and keep me safe on my journey. A little history on the hamsa: Depicting the open right hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many times throughout history.
It also represents blessings, power and strength, and is seen as potent in deflecting the evil eye. It has come to be a symbol of secularity, and a "good luck" charm appearing on necklaces, keychains etc. 💙

In honor of Breast Cancer Prevention Month, myself and Beautycounter would like to remind you that decades of studies show that serious health issues are on the rise and due, in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals. We remind you not to scare you but to raise awareness - every small step towards eliminating your exposure helps. Isn’t it time you came clean and switched to skincare, makeup and personal care products that pose less harm to you and your family? 💗 #betterbeautyforboobies #savethetatas #knowbetterchoosebetter #comeclean

We finally killed our last bottle of sunscreen mist on our whirlwind one day trip to the Holiday Inn resort, Panama City FL. No burns, 💯sun nearly all day. I love that stuff! Safer skin care has never been better. And seriously, we had so much fun!

My hubby is one of those people whose skin doesn’t tan, it burns. Threw this gem in my suitcase for the trip. PERFECT size for my crossbody purse while sightseeing! Gotta keep his skin pasty white! 🤣☀️

It might be fall but it’s still so hot in California ☀️
Keeping our skin protected while watching Some baseball ⚾️ *
Será otoño, pero todavía hace mucho calor en California ☀️
Manteniendo nuestra piel protegida mientras miramos baseball ⚾️

{Beach babe} sun kissed freckles, little make up, beach wave hair, sun screen on every exposed surface of my skin, sand everywhere, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! For my new followers, my name is Felisha and the beach is my happy place! I just wanted to introduce myself and share three random facts about me for you to get to know me more.
1. I used to be allergic to the sun as a child but thankfully I grew out of it but I do still burn easily so @beautycounter safer mineral sunscreen is my bff!
2. I have loved the beach for as long as I could remember and growing up I wanted to have a tiki beach party for my birthday but since my birthday is in November I never thought it was possible but my mom threw me a surprise 18th birthday party 2 months before my birthday with a huge sand pit and all the tiki decor you could imagine!
3. I have never dyed my hair before and people ask me all the time what color box I use or how often I dye my hair but my red/ brown hair is all natural from God!
Well, that’s three facts about me. I would love to know more about y’all! What’s some fun and interesting facts about you?

#tbt oh vacation how much I miss you. Had the best time this summer on the amazing @disneycruiseline and stayed safe in the sun with our favorite sunscreen.
Summer might be over but we should always keep our skin protected from the sun.
Our sunscreen also won Allure best of beauty this year ☀️

I am by no means claiming to be an expert and I am still learning every day, but if you take one bit of advice from my ongoing non-toxic journey please just stop using sunscreen with Oxybenzone on yourself and your family... In fact if you see O’s in the “active ingredients” just run. Oxybenzone absorbs through the skin in significant amounts. It is a known endocrine disrupter and is potentially cancer-causing. Hawaii has banned the sale of sunscreens containing Oxybenzone because it kills coral reef.. imagine what it is doing to you. Check out the Environmental Working Group’s website for more information on Oxybenzone.

another long weekend away from the phone. spent it in a sweet cabin with my family, eating + laughing. what could be better?
••
and now back to reality. laundry is going and unpacking has ensued.

just wanted to share another thing i’ve been trying. instead of greasy dryer sheets (coated in who knows what), i drop a couple drops of these bad boys on some wool dryer balls. my drying time is shorter and my clothes smell amazing 🙌🏼

A much needed dip in the ocean today! Since learning that an estimated 90% of Skin aging if from the sun and that melanoma is the most preventable kind of cancer, I’m always applying sunscreen on myself & my fam before we head outdoors. (I think I drive my son & hubby nuts but worth it!!) I love the new Countersun Spray, especially for sandy hands at the beach! It’s non-aerosol and uses BOV air technology so it’s safer for us & the environment! No oxybenzone also means this sunscreen is reef safe! Wins all around! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! ☀️ #betterbeauty #sunscreen #reeffriendly #safersunscreen #safesunscreen #sunprotection #beautycounter #mineralsunscreen #familyfriendly #healthymom #crunchymom #advocate #su2c
